What about the stuff by Studio Canal in France that was trying to emulate the style of anime that was around at the time. Everything from Bots Master to Totally Spies had a style derived straight out of a specific anime or an anime studio.
Doesn't make it bad. Just definitely borrowing a quality or two or three from things they really liked. I don't get what the deal is.
No one said its bad, but it still isnt anime. "Anime" has always meant japanese things exclusively. If we start including foreign cartoons just because they copied the anime style then eventually what is called "anime" is going to be filled with nothing but non Japanese things and the word "anime" would become meaningless.
And there are bad actors out there that want to steal the "anime " name, who will copy the artstyle of anime but everything else about it is western and a lot of people want to avoid that, in the first place a lot of us watch anime because we wanted to avoid western things that have gone woke. And anime has a specific culture that can only really come from Japan that the West cannot emulate even if it wasnt woke. Instead of trying to call their things "anime" they should be improving the quality of "cartoons" and stop trying to steal the "anime "name just because its got more prestige. And its got more prestige because its simply better than cartoons so the answer isnt to steal its name rather its to improve the quality of cartoons
