Seeing things race swapped for no other reason than putting a black person there over a white person isn't making a film or show better. It just proves you don't care about it, other than skin color, which is kinda racist.
It feels like a surface take gotcha when they're proving they don't care about the how or the why, just the 'lol, you get mad at things too' part. Which proves they don't care. They care only enough to do it to annoy and destroy.
Exactly. Plus it shows they aren’t real fans. At one point race swaps didn’t bother me since they weren’t common but now it’s expected and it’s always the same excuse and people get upset when you suggest creating your own character.
It was also done with actual well-known, talented and/or entertaining people like Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, or Samuel L. Jackson. I'd be fine with Denzel in just about any role because the dude earned it, and his casting wouldn't be accompanied by an idiot's chorus of "look, a BLACK MAN is in the movie! We're saving the world!"
But instead, now it's whatever flavor-of-the-month diversity checkbox hire that is currently being pushed into everything.
Case in point remember when Black Panther came out they literally acted like it was the first time black people were in a movie or the first black super hero movie. Forgetting how popular Blade was. Also forgetting Blackman and Meteor Man. Granted they weren’t as popular (I personally Meteor Man and have all the comics) but they were out before Black Panther. Also as a bit of a comic book snob it was annoying to see people thinking the characters in the MCU where some brand new creation
What bugs me is the mental gymnastics for the context. They get all the context they want to make themselves look great. But for everyone else? Surface take that a child would come up with. Like cartoon villain reasoning. It's all so tiresome.

The Bond thing was shut down by him if I remember right as a lot of people said he'd be perfect for it but he himself didn't want to be remembered as 'the black Bond' and was blown up that he didn't get the part for racism blah blah blah.
I don’t recall anyone complaining about Sam Jackson as Fury. Marvel’s Ultimate series of comics specifically imagined Sam Jackson as Fury long before the movies came out, and he quickly became the best incarnation of the character.
It was part of the deal to use his likeness and it paid off big.
Marvel didn't ask him before they did that though, so to avoid having the shit sued out of them they gave him the MCU gig.

As far as Fury goes, I just consider the current Fury to be a totally different person from Sgt Fury of the Howling Commandoes comics, because THAT Nick Fury would have been old as fuck or dead by the time the MCU started! What is mildly irksome, though, is that they seem to have erased og Fury, and given the Howling Commandoes to Cap (unless one could say that Fury died in combat just before that?)
As far as Heimdall goes, that was just gratuitous blackfacing of "the whitest of the Gods."
Comics Nick Fury lived that long, ish, because he had a super serum sort of like Captain America received, just not as power enhancing. Several other heroes also had this which is why they have lived so long.

When did comic strips become "memes"? A meme was originally meant to just mean a viral idea or concept, that could be as simple and basic a fact as "the sky is blue", or an idea such as "murder is wrong". Not "a picture with words in". I guess the death of the physical newspaper is partly responsible, and I'll be seeing people call Peanuts or Hagar strips "memes". (I follow old comics on X/Twitter or whatever.)
And yeah, that's how unselfaware they are, and how they only see the surface of anything.
The word meme has been beaten to death at least a decade ago. I saw youtube recommend me some "meme compilation" recently. It's just a bunch of short videos from tiktok without any point to them. As for the other stuff I think you would agree that a lot of entertainment is more concerned with diversity than good storytelling combined with people entering hobbies to change them because they see that men enjoy something and see it as a problem.

I'd rather people be upfront about their direct biases because at least that can be talked about in a way that's actually grounded in reality.
