When the alternatives were drowning or suffocating, this was a blessing.

I suppose the pressure shock from an implosion at this depth would have killed them so fast their brain wouldn't have had time to figure something snapped.

With deep sea fuck ups, you generally don't know anything before you're dead.

The only exception is if a legit submarine (double hulled, navy warship type) has a problem, and people get trapped in compartments and run out of air.

With how shitty this one was? It popped, and they didn't have time to realize they were dead before they did. Iirc, 30+ atmospheres of pressure, and it's enough force from the water to pulp you instantly.

At that depth, you don't "spring a leak". The pressure is so enormous that any small failure will immediately result in a sudden total implosion with massive force.

Everyone inside was gibbed instantly & the sub blown to pieces & scattered around.

Yeah. Typical pressure cooker uses about 1 atmosphere of pressure. This thing probably imploded at about 2-3k feet, so about 60-90 atmospheres of pressure. Air inside would have ignited like in a diesel engine cylinder.

It's hard to mentally process the physics of something collapsing so hard underwater the air inside ignites.

I'm resisting the urge to do my high school science teacher act here, but a perfect Carnot heat engine would use just the ~20% oxygen in air as fuel. Fire pistons can create a flame using just air.

Another DIE disaster to surpass feminist bridge collapse.

NYT says it suffered "catastrophic implosion". https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/06/22/us/titanic-missing-submarine

DIE disaster

It seems leftists have tried to counter that narrative. For one, the prevailing regressive narrative seems to be that this was a joyride with rich white men. Secondly, The New Republic recently uncovered that the CEO financially supported Republican politicians in the past. Of course, since he lived in Seattle, I might guess the extent of his "conservative" ideology was simply trying to keep the city business-friendly.

It's coming out that he might be of the tribe, too. Peak rino.

When I heard they made the damn thing of carbon fiber, I called that it was either crushed like a soda can or just shattered.

I saw this on 4chan https://i.imgur.com/PpatVHE.jpg I'd like to assume the interior is unconnected to the pressure hull, but the way everything else is going you can't be sure.

So apparently... Titan was based on a composite hull technology from Spencer Composites that Steve Fossett used on DeepFlight Challenger.

But it had a caveat that the carbon fiber was rated for the maximum pressure for only one dive; each successive trip would weaken it further. Richard Branson wanted to buy and use the thing after Fossett died but the rest of the DeepFlight team refused because they knew it wouldn't handle what Branson was proposing.

Depending on what Spencer Composites did or didn't say to OceanGate, they could be liable.

So the sub imploded. Compared to slowly suffocating to death in a dark environment, this was a blessing. They did not suffered for a minute.

The company's owner has bragged about his diverse hiring practices. How he doesn't have any 50-year old white guys around. (He did and fired him after being told that the sub can't handle the pressure)
