If you're at such a risk of being looted and police don't bother with shoplifters, what's the point of keeping stores there?
I wouldn't be surprised if this is left to continue if you have armed markets just outside city limits where you have to shop/get supplies overlooked by heavily armed guys like they do in third world or countries wrapped up in civil war.
This is what I try to explain when people talk about food deserts. In Basic Economics Sowell explains it much better than I can but the idea that it’s racism when grocery stores leave is absurd.
As usual the Portland subreddit is coping by all claiming they shop elsewhere so it doesn't affect them...the irony of the sheltered.
The real fun one though is the post about removing the mask requirement in Oregon, I saw some hilarious comments about how they are 'afraid to go outside' and they see this as a 'death sentence.'
What they don't understand is that it's not like the serial looters are just going to give up. They're going to drive out to these people's safe "elsewhere" and sink those stores as well.
Way to go antifa and blm. Also way to go to all the local politicians who cheer on destructive behavior. I’ve lived in small communities and in some cases Wal-Mart is one of the best jobs you can get. Portland is much bigger of course but still you are actively reducing the number of jobs when you didn’t have to. I know they don’t care about the average person who works and takes care of their family
Like Antifa even believe in cause and effect. Have you seen the rest of what they believe in? They'd have to throw all of it out if they wanted to get back in touch with cause-and-effect...
This could actually be a positive, IF leftists weren't gutterslime cowards - if they rallied behind small businesses actively defending against shoplifting. But we all know what is really going to happen.
Not to mention that Walmart is one of the more dependable places to hire those who couldn't get/hold a job anywhere else. A problem that plagues the poverty stricken more than anyone, with their rap sheets, untreated mental issues, and low education.
So that explains why my local WalMart employs mouth-breathing, lazy, surly soul brothers and sisters and old white women with shin splints who lose their hearing when they work behind the deli counter..
And if that's what your local one is like, why would anyone work there except for those who literally have no other option between that and being homeless.
Ironically, Walmart was one of the holdouts against price increases during the Bidenflation of 2022 because they had competition from the other megastores. Now that they're gone, expect the remaining businesses in Portland to be more liberal with the price tagger.
Stuff like this is why I'm glad they closed a ton of the california stores and just sent all of their products to neighboring areas. I think it was last year they said they were closing half of the ones there, and I swear a month after the last one did they had tons of sales on the local ones. I don't normally buy walmart shoes, but when they're $10 a pair I don't see why not.
They're getting what they want. They just don't understand what it means. Portland will soon be the utopia they have been clamoring for. God help them.

We need to just publicly hang recidivists.
I always ask why black people aren't filling the void and scooping up all the money that would supposedly be spent at stores in those areas.
You're not just fighting the looters, though. The Democrats would not take kindly to their catspaws getting shot.

Fun to watch the cope.

They'll need extra strength copium when other companies start following suit now that Walmart is establishing a precedent.
It's those greedy corporations taking profit again.
Well, pack it up, boys. It was a long, hard road but we've finally done it. We've found the ultimate reddit social justice nutter thanks to this.
These people are positive that they'll win the civil war.
These are the same brainlets who preach "ACAB" until they get robbed or raped themselves, and in some absurd cases even after that happens!

Pfft.

I know. Just hate to see when businesses leave because it sucks for the decent people.
I’ve been saying that for years. But they seem to enjoy living in the good old USA
Twittards coping with MUH SMALL BUSINESS WILL BENEFIT! makes me laugh.
Like the fucking shoplifters and robbers will just suddenly stop doing all their bullshit because Walmart left.
Walmart definitely soaked up a lot of the shoplifters since it's relatively easy to steal from a big chain.

The Portlanders will claim the community defeated big business and shopped at local shops, like Target, instead.

Powells chargest too much for books anyway.
LoL. Powell's is an impressive store, especially considering how Amazon is making book stores extinct.
I love the brownies on the main floor.
1, 2, 3, 4, how many brownies are in my store? 5, 6, 7, 8, that is too many! I'm calling the police!
