I think the challenge is that movies are SO BAD now that something that is "meh" like Top Gun 2 is, by comparison, top tier. But in absolute terms is just a fun 90s blockbuster in quality, not revolutionary filmmaking.

I finally got around to renting Top Gun 2 and maybe my expectations were too high after hearing all the hype, but I found it pretty meh overall.
