Let’s go over real revenge fantasy tropes: any woman winning any fight ever against a man

I don't think I'd go as far as to say "any fight ever." A contest of brute strength, definitely not, but dirty fighting exists. A woman armed with a knife is not something I'd take lightly, and that's not getting into ambushes or creative use of the environment.

"5-foot-5 90-pound spy chick throws 250lb hired thug through a concrete wall" isn't going to happen. However, "5-foot-5 90-pound spy chick gets the drop on 250lb hired thug by hiding in a dumpster and jumping out to wrap razor garrote wire around his throat" is more believable as it allows small size to work as an advantage instead of a liability. Blades or other sharp objects get around the size/strength difference to a large degree, plus other weapons like guns exist (though I'm trying to avoid that since it's obvious and misses the upper-body-strength point).

Of course that's not what the narrative demands. Can't have anything suggesting men and women are built different, even if doing so would make for interesting, asymmetrical fight scenes. Have to have Joss Whedon-style "tuff gurlz" fights with a 90-pound waif punching grown men center-mass and sending them flying.

The way they did it in the original terminator movies with Sarah Connor was decently believable.

Bitch was like a cornered racoon.

20-30 years ago the idea of a female protagonist was still relatively new and fresh. I rather enjoyed the different takes on how a woman could be the hero.

We had Charlie’s Angels, Wonder Woman, the million dollar woman in the 70’s. Spies. A super heroine amazon. And a bionic enhanced woman.

We had Ripley in Alien(s). Sarah Connor in Terminator. (Both examples of maternal instinct kicking in to kick ass)

This was all great and believable fantasy.

Today, however, it’s become a trope that’s boring and unbelievable. Mary Sue’s abound. One well trained woman could defeat an untrained thug, but I’ve seen so many shows where the woman beats up half a dozen professional goons.

It’s just not exciting. But it has to be maintained as a symbol of equality because the woke think women are just as strong as men and any word otherwise is blatant misogyny.

I thought it was decent. I wasn't dying to start the next episode but I enjoyed it.

Is it just me, or was the daughter far too old for them to be impressed by her shitty drawing?

Maybe her earlier drawings were even worse.

Terminal List gets SO good as it develops. The action scenes are killer and mostly realistic and they just keep one-upping themselves

They hate him for being an open Christian, if memory serves. I don't remember him doing anything else remotely controversial, even by their standards.

Refusing to endorse Biden in 2020. I think he may have been the only big Marvel star not to do so in a group video they did..

Patriotic Navy Seal righteously goes on a rampage against the elite for their crimes. I guess that's where the "right wing fantasy" bit comes from. Predditors though, seem to be spending their time crying about Pratt and some church, it's literally taking up half of the discussion on the series. I've seen very little actual criticism of the plot of any of the technical elements of it.

That’s what I figured. I know his church has been under fire for not affirming lgbt lifestyle but these people don’t realize that is a standard Christian view not counting the newer churches who want to be seen as “cool”

Are the female agents/SecDef/reporter all professionals who keep their noses to the grindstone, do their jobs and get results without making things personal?

Because if so, that's probably it. Can't just be professional anymore, you have to inject politics and feelings into everything.

That’s probably it. He is also a strong Christian. I need to check it out. Also get the book it’s based on.

First based.

Second, how far the left has fallen. The show was entirely about how the military-industrial-complex is bad, and how they created a monster that turned on them.

But they hate white men and rush to the defense of "the system" now that their guys are in control of it.

I just finished the show. Slow build at first, tactically sound but unrealistic action sequences (realistic shooting, reloading, maneuvering, Hollywood explosion/flashbangs and bullet wounds.) and I fast forward a lot of the talkies and family flashbacks. Gratuitous violence during revenge scenes which I could take it or leave it but one on them was done really well and it involved a heavy log. I thought that was one of the best scene of the series.

It's not a bad show, like Reacher, it's downright good by 2022 standards and I wholeheartedly recommend the show if anything just to let streaming services know that we're willing to watch shows if it isn't complete woke garbage.

Not a movie, tv show/miniseries. I've watched a few episodes, it's actually pretty good so far. Haven't noticed any red flags. Soundtrack isn't very good though.

If a right-wing revenge fantasy is so wrong, why does it feel so right?

and this was already toned down and diversified from the book. the author complained about forced diversity in the book and what does he get, yellow washing the huwite female reporter, removing a Muslim terrorist leader from the plot and completely changed the motivation of the female secretary of defense who was basically a Hilary Clinton stand-in in the book. author also mentioned black rifle company coffee in the book, when it was the darling of the conservatives back in 2016.

If you haven't watched it, do it. Yes it starts slow and boring, but it's one of those shows that only gets better each episode until you're hooked and binging it.

Also, they're just coming out and saying the quiet part out loud with this title, given it's a story about government corruption/cronyism/Government and Corporations bad.

If that's "Right Wing" and "Unhinged" then they're just admitting THEY are the bad people working with the government to do bad things.

Honestly, I don't know anything about this movie, but how the hell are we supposed to even take this as a recommendation?

These people will tell you that a biology textbook is an "unhinged right-wing screed". How do I know this isn't just some run of the mill "bad guy attacks revenge man's family" movie.

In 2022 a run of the mill action TV series IS a recommendation.

How do I know this isn't just some run of the mill "bad guy attacks revenge man's family" movie.

You're not far off. Its "Spec Ops Man revenges people who killed his team with experimental drugs and then covered it up by offing them" movie. So very generic action movie plotline. But look at that quick blurb again. Can you guess which part they say is the "unhinged right-wing" part?

If so, Lightyear should be on your watchlist.

Nothing they say can ever be trusted one way or another.

They're always the possibility it could be a double bluff of some sort. But I'll take them at face value when they say that they hate the movie.

Anyway, here's the rotten tomatoes page: 40% critic / 95% audience score. Most movies with that disparity are usually good.

Look around where you are, no one here is going to unironically read the Daily Beast.

No one reads the daily beast. :P
