Secondly, look up the difference between a gamete and a zygote.
Sperm aren't life. They're just cells. Hair & skin are cells, too.
It's the difference between potential and actual life.
A sperm is just a piece of a man, it carried his DNA exclusively. Once it combines with a female egg (imagine claiming women murder a child every month for their entire lives) it creates a synthesis of DNA from both parents unique to the child; this is the beginning of a new life.
For people that claim to follow science, they sure have a hard time understanding this.
If you haven't realized by now they don't give a fuck about science or consistency. It's only about the end goal, so they swap their positions & reasoning more often than their underwear.
Cells are usually 'alive' in the sense they consume stuff, move around, reproduce, etc.
Sperm are haploid cells which mean they cannot divide or reproduce on their own as they only have one set of chromosomes. The other half of course must be given by a cell which has them, namely the egg.

I think it's because Christians in general don't pay much mind to the bits specifically about Jewish law in the OT, especially those parts that might be bizarrely alien in the eyes of non-Jewish cultures ... a kind of cross-cultural disconnect that happened when Roman Christianity was divesting itself of its troublesome Jewish rebel roots, or w/e.

Marrying your in-law is considered squicky in modern Western society, and may have been squicky to earlier peoples adopting Christianity but without first being Jewish, and not appreciating the delciacies of Jewish law - or giving two shits about it, or seeing what it has to do with them. It's not how it's preached by the preachers, it's how it's glossed over in the minds of the masses. There's also that concept of a kid you fathered in wedlock somehow not being legally "yours".

A Zygote can reproduce given the correct environment (womb).
A germ cell produces incomplete cells which must merge with another to produce a zygote. Because individually these incomplete cells cannot reproduce/divide, they aren't really alive in the traditional sense and thus I don't give a fuck if trillions of them go down the shitter.
If we accept this premise, men are guilty of murdering trillions every time they ejaculate, no matter what the circumstances. Even if you were to ejaculate only for the purposes of procreation, you would kill trillions for each sperm that survives. Ergo, men must never ejaculate.
Or, you can accept that gametes and zygotes are two different things.
