It's a boring 10 minute story stretched to 90 boring minutes. The cast sucks. The character design sucks. It has no charisma or respect for the original movies.

It's a perfect case study for why modern movies are garbage, on screen and at the box office.

I'd have at least been a little interested if it was based on Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, with all the fun, colorful planets and aliens and a comedically evil Zurg. But no, we gotta have a boring, brown movie in every respect.

No XR, no care.

Seriously. The the old animated movie and the cartoon were great. Super disappointed they didn't bring back the same characters.

It's probably for the best. There's no way we could have XR being a kids' show appropriate Bender in the current year.

All I knew about it before it came out was what I saw on the posters. And it looked completely uninteresting. It wasn’t even a zany Buzz story, it was a weird more realistic Buzz. Add to that the fact that Disney is ruining everything they touch, and the smart choice was to wait. Then you hear nothing good about it from people that saw it.

No way in hell the Rotten Tomatoes score is real, just like how they tweaked the Star Wars ones. Even just looking at the critic reviews plenty of people didn’t like it. Plenty of the audience too.

You google the movie and it has as much or more 1 star reviews but they list the 5 star ones at the top. Huge psyop power play to get this movie to succeed and it’s still flopping like a limp dick. It’s impressive how hard it’s flopping despite all that. Makes me happy for humanity.

Isn't it more about TS4 being shit and this one not having Tim Allen?

A little of Column A, a little of Column B, a lot of “Fuck Disney.”

TS4

Why the fuck they ever thought this was needed just proves how greedy execs are with a franchise.

3 was perfectly timed. Literally long enough after 1 and 2 that the kids watching the kids [and kids toys] in 1 and 2 were now college ages when the college aged kid in 3 was doing stuff.

It. Was. Fucking. Perfect.

And the actual content of 3 was good.

So someone then decided "Hey, 3 did well, let's make another!" Despite 3 ending on an actual ending!

Disney hadn’t fully corrupted Pixar by the time of 3 (there was less Cars 2 and more Wall-E and Up, still)…

By the time of 4? Pixar didn’t really exist anymore. It was “Disney subsidiary zombie Pixar”.

Hence why all the movies became about humans and human problems, instead of bugs, animals, vehicles and inanimate objects which Pixar built its name on…

There’s a massive difference. I’m not saying early Pixar didn’t do humans, but they weren’t the “dialogue heavy”, “emotionally loaded” woke shitfests that Disney turned them into…

Frankly, it’s gotten so bad that HTTYD at Dreamworks has far surpassed modern Pixar (pretty much anything after Up, IMHO) in almost every possible way, except budgeting…

Because Dreamworks still knows how to make it somewhat fun, even with “darker” stories (Dragon 2 and 3), like Disney used to, decades ago, and like Don Bluth (Land Before Time, American Tail, Anastacia, All Dogs Go To Heaven, etc.) did…

Whereas I’m honestly not sure Disney-Pixar does, anymore, to be frank…

The late 80s through 90s and into the early 2000s, man…

Holy shit was Western Animation ever at its peak, at that point. Unfortunately… 😔

And no, it’s not just nostalgia, because I wasn’t even alive, when half of those movies came out. But watching them later, as I grew up? Holy shit they’re good. So much better than almost anything since (I.e. in the last decade)…

HTTYD

That second movie had some gut punches.

They made a 4th???

▲ 8 ▼
– ClownTamer 8 points 3 years ago +8 / -0

This was their attempt to get away with a 5th. Fully expect a 6th. Franchises no longer end. They’ll do a 6th, either related to it, a sequel, or as a reboot.

The appeal of the original was the fantasy of having your toys come to life

No one wants to see 'space adventure man'

Evans comments are just icing on the cake

No one wants to see 'space adventure man'

Even if they did there was a cartoon over 20 years that already did that!

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0181196/

Then they made a series, too!

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0260602/

Buzz Lightyear of Star Command - TV Series - 2000–2001

And the most important bit about the first link:

Stars Tim Allen

Sure in the series after Patrick Warburton took over the role of Buzz but he'd already been in the previous cartoon movie and most of the cast remained between productions, including Stepgen Furst [RIP] who played Vir in Babylon 5 amongst other things.

No one wants to see 'space adventure man'

We already saw it. They had an entire well liked TV series AND movie that did it already.

So they are shitting on every fan possible from every angle with this.

No one wants to see 'space adventure man'

Sure we do. But the little I've heard about it suggests this isn't about "space adventure man" but "Everyone loved Lost in Space, right?"

It's like people (men and women alike) are drawn to strong competent masculine men. Even more so in a time were their daily lives are devoid of any such.

Nah, can't be.

I honestly doubt they considering this a dud movie. Its a high budget spin off of one of the most loved movie IPs they own featuring a major drawing of actors. By all accounts it should have been a slam dunk movie.

The problem I really think is the "Progressive" side of the company trying to push the gay scenes harder, and the "Corporate" side making sure its kept cuttable for the Chinese/ME releases. This schism wouldn't be at a stalemate forever, and this movie seems to be lighting it up a bit.

Most of the world either hates, wants to kill or are uncomfortable with rainbow people.

Only place where rainbow people can have power is in the West and even then, they only exist on twitter and some large cities. And I guarantee a lot of people are tolerant, but are uncomfortable or have that "uncanny valley" feeling when dealing with these rainbows.

I think the West's embrace of the rainbow people is largely to stick a thumb in the eye of Christianity, which they loathe. Same reason they embrace Islam, despite having 180 degree opposing views on everything. Anything that subverts traditional Christian and/or American values is a good thing in their mind.

I don't really see the hook. The trailer didn't show me why I should care.

Honestly it looked like they saw Interstellar and decided they wanted to do a kid's version of it.

Side note (because I forgot to say it before) fuck I hate Chris Evans…

Like, is there a more detestable male human, in the current Disneyverse (the guy who voiced Olaf, Josh Gad, maybe?)..?

Really, is there?

What an absolute piece of shit human “he” is. Fuck…

It is weird how the guy used to play frat boy style guys. Almost like South Park was onto something with the politically correct fraternity bros.

If you see old interviews of him, he didn't just play that style of guy. He would say shit easily equivalent of Trump's "grab 'em by the pussy", but now he's outraged anyone would ever say such a thing. lol.
