At least they got one out of three right, but I'm sure this is largely due to contractual obligations. Just Cause is the only IP out of the three that is worth a damn.
Isn't LiS popular? I liked the first game despite the woke, but skipped the second and the new one too.
I'm sure it's popular among the alphabet people. Despite the considerable corporate pandering, however, the percentage is not very high. I think the first game is the only one that did any relevant numbers.
I think it's moderately popular, but production costs have increased and Dontnod is losing money. The original really captured the Tumblr audience at its prime, and that time is over.
And without even the LiS brand I wonder how much they're really worth.
Which really sucks because I really liked the story. I thought it was really well done, but I played it with zero expectation and zero idea of what I was getting into.
I was so... disappointed to find there were few fans interested in anything other than shipping the two protagonists in their lesbian fantasies.
Also possibly Deus Ex and Tomb Raider.
Not sure this is good or bad. Square Enix have lost my confidence so at worse it will be a bit more woke and they may be good. I would not mind another Deus Ex or Legacy of Kain.
These IPs were already destroyed.
I think this is a big step in the right direction. Squeenix really had no clue what it was doing with its various Western IPs, as the rollout of the shitty 2014 Thief and the absolute crime they've done to DX (between the increasingly BLM-esque 'mechanical apartheid' direction they'd gone in which didn't really make sense in-universe, trying to bilk Mankind Divided for every possible cent with microtransactions and a disastrous pre-order scheme, and just plain not making any more DX games since 2016 so they can focus on capeshit instead even though MD's story would have basically the first act in any normal DX game) attests.
From what I've heard Embracer Group takes a laissez-faire approach to game development - they basically let the studios work independently with minimal oversight and are mainly involved on the marketing & financial side of things - which beats Squeenix's tendency to micromanage the hell out of their studios. And IIRC they own both Warhorse Studios (Kingdom Come Deliverance) and Beamdog (the SJW'd up Baldur's Gate remake with tranny NPCs) so I suppose Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Thief and the other IPs they've just acquired could go either way.
But I frankly will be astonished if they manage to handle these franchises any worse than Squeenix did. Not saying it's impossible (especially in this day & age) but it would be very difficult to do worse. As if to showcase one more time just how clueless they are when it comes to handling and appraising their non-Japanese IPs, Square chose to retain low-value trash like Life Is Strange even as they're giving DX and Tomb Raider away for a pretty modest $300 million.
Yeah, I'd much rather them work on their Japanese games and forget about the lost cause of IP they are losing. Many of their soon-to-be former western IP were favorites of mine in their days, but have long fallen to the woke infusion.
I've more recently enjoyed some of their Japanese IP and it hasn't all been ruined yet. I still need to try Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy, and Bravely Default II to name a few. They are pretty low on my list, but at least have my mild interest, which is more than I can say about the IP they are selling off.
Modest? It's worth nothing, it's a relic of the past with a failed reboot that amounted to nothing more than an Unreal 4 tech demo.
I liked the original reboot.
Although the first game was essentially a power fantasy murder simulator that ironically essentially had no tombs.
I only played the original reboot and I greatly enjoyed it.
How? There's hundreds of games with female leads now. It's not special anymore. The only thing it has is being the foot in the door for all the propaganda we see today.
Boobs in an age before internet porn became mainstream. It was like the Playboy of video games “I just bought it for the gameplay.”
100% disagree. Early tomb raider games, though janky, had unique atmosphere and puzzle/platform gameplay for the time. Like many early 3D games, they’ve aged like sour milk. But they were influential games in their era.
My only disagreement here is that Tomb Raider "was" a good series of games. The reboots did collectively worse to the name over time. Duke Nukem Forever was complete trash, yes, but it is only one game in a long lineup of fairly memorable games. Not a full series of pregressively worse and woke games one after another.
I would very much like a new (good!) Legacy of Kain
IIRC other sites indicated the $300m from the sale will be used for further investment into blockchain.
Yoshi P might be able to block it for now (because FFXIV is pretty much bankrolling the corp IMO). Once FFXIV popularity wanes, which every MMORPG does eventually, and if the new FF game he is making isn't a big hit, he's definitely gonna be ejected for someone more pliant.
I would hope they would be smart enough not to risk their cash cow on the latest fad, but you never know.
Someone doesn't remember Spirits Within...
I liked Spirits Within...
I mean, it isn't some critical masterpiece, but I don't think it deserves the hatedom it has.
It bankrupted Squaresoft, which is the point I was making.
AFAIK YoshiP's on the board and has at least say in what happens to 14. IF they push crypto into it though it'll be a travisty.
I think this might be a good thing overall, all those western studios and IPs were being wasted, no one did anything with Deus Ex for example. Maybe we'll finally see the trilogy finished. Just don't fuck with my Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest and I'm happy.
Good. Square Enix was too bloated. I hope they return to the PS1 era (but they will probably continue with remasters only).
They would have to separate Square and Enix to do that.
After Avengers-
And nothing of value was lost
Just to mention, but their Guardians of the Galaxy game sure looks and feels a lot like a direct sequel to the Telltale game of the same name that everyone seems to have forgotten exists, right down to all the quick-time events ...
Is this because Forspoken is looking like a huge flop? It looks like they dumped a ton of money into it and most gamers in normal circles haven't even noticed it. Woke killed Avengers and Forspoken looks worse.
As long as Dragon Quest isn’t being fucked with I’m happy.
Hopefully theyre cutting out all the woke rot.
Soul Reaver 1 and 2 deserve high quality remakes.
Get out ahead of the totally real sexual discrimination lawsuits for not making another
feminist propaganda pieceTomb Raider?
