I've been enjoying flour straight from the bag for 34 years, and no warning label is going to stop me.

You just know someone tried eating the flour straight out of the bag and sued them over it. These little notices don't just appear for no reason.

Yep. Its the same reason that a bag clearly labeled "Peanuts" will still have a warning on it saying "contains Peanuts". And now, there are starting to be issues of people who assume cruise control means the car will drive itself. And when they crash "then why is it called 'control'?!"

Christ, that cruise control thing was a joke way back when it was first starting to become more common on cars; you'll see it in comedies from back in the 80s/90s. "Who the hell is driving?" "Ah, don't worry, I got it on cruise control."

People have been at least anticipating self-driving cars for a long time. But we kept getting told "But it's still a looong way off."

Nothing will ever be funnier than the disclaimer that was attached to the Red Bull commercials to make it clear that Red Bull would not literally give you wings.

I remember 10 years ago how my teacher told a story of a lady who successfully sued a motorhome company after she crashed her car. The story was that she got on a highway, got it up to speed, just stood up and went to do something in the kitchen. Her excuse was that the instruction manual didn't SPECIFICALLY stated you cannot leave the driving wheel while the car is mobile.

No really.

How do you get sick from pure flour though?

It tastes bad, but it isnt poisonous by itself, is it?

Right, it's because of E. coli contamination that happened at the mill. And you never know what other contamination could get into the bag after you've opened it at home. Usually microscopic mites or weevils. That's why it's safest to store opened flour in a sealed container, or even refrigerated.

Eat it raw and you will gain superpowers. This is the kind of fun Big Flour is keeping from you. They feed us poison so we buy their "cures" while they suppress our medicine

Yeah, because raw flour has had a number of E. coli outbreaks in the past decade. That's the reason why you shouldn't eat raw cookie dough, not the eggs. So yeah, the warning label exists for stupid people who don't know better. Nice self own. 👍

My mom always let me eat the cookie dough. I can't imagine kids in her era didn't eat it either. Seems odd that it's now a problem.

I mean, I'm not going to go knocking raw cookie dough out of people's hands and you can easily pasteurize flour to make it safe to eat when raw. Likewise, the rise of E. coli outbreaks traced to raw flour is little over a decade old. End of the day, it's important to realize that raw flour shouldn't be treated any different than raw meats in that they likely won't make you ill, but you should understand the potential risks and judge for yourself.

I bought a new bag of flour

Oh would you look at this show-off! Mr. Rich-Boy Fancy Pants here, being able to still buy flour in 2022!

Seriously, stores have been out of flour for months around here.

Anyone remember that comedy routine about giving stupid people signs to wear? Yeah, that.

Bill Engvall. Stupid people should carry a sign so that you'll know not ask them for directions.

Also "Got a flat tire?"

"No, these other three just swelled right up!" "Here's your sign"

Good news everyone! Stupid people now voluntarily wear signs on their face.
