WoW, as dated as it is now, was quite solid at launch and through its first two expansions as well. You'll note that Blizzard was acquired in the same year Wrath came out and how things gradually went downhill from then.
It's actually pretty important to pay attention to the staff members of games companies, as the critical creative and technical minds behind good games are likely to continue to make good games at different companies. When they leave a company though, it's a coinflip as to the quality of what that company releases later.

At the last place I worked a woman got her job like this - her history was at her previous job she had outsourced half their stuff until they finally got rid of her because she had crippled the company enough that people started noticing. That's her background along with a "hate white men" philosophy that got her the job.
HP was an awesome company doing pretty interesting research and building quality scientific and engineering equipment. It was run by engineers at the time. Then the MBAs and petulant children (women) moved in.
It used to be a pretty solid company a couple decades back. A lot of their older printers are still in use b/c of how reliable they were. They took a severe turn for the worse in the mid to late 2000s.

Diablo 3 was already crap with the always-on and real-money auction house. The game itself was barely a grade above Diablo 2. Most of the focus was on the RMAH, and how to protect that racket.
I have zero hope for Diablo 4, which will no doubt be filled with diversity quotas, Rainbow Reich subplots, and somehow they will manage to make Nazis the villains in a medieval setting.

It actually looks pretty decent so far, definitely a cut above Diablo 3. If not, I guess Diablo 2 Resurrected will keep me going for another 20 years.
