The roads aren’t even really addressed in the majority of Texas. If there’s ice, it’s the kind of conditions that require studded tires in a place where zero people have such tires because it’s so rare. There’s really just no safe driving in the conditions. The last time I had to drive a little further in the ice, I was having to blow stoplights because once you stopped there’s no getting going again. I’ve driven in Colorado, Canada, and Finland in the winter and none compare to trying to drive on the skating rink that is Texas.

I would totally suggest Texas in the winter. 98% of the time it’s very nice weather. Just be prepared to alter plans and go somewhere else for the other 2%.

Who cares? Playing any game among friends for fun, you set some ground rules and not suck the fun out of it. That’s fine. Playing a game in a competitive tournament environment? Push the rules all the way up to the walking the line right next to cheating. If you don’t, someone else will and you walk away the loser.

I’ve enjoyed listening to a lot of them. And are the radio in my car often. A three hour conversation is such a good way to get a real true idea about someone. It’s nearly impossible follow a script for so long.

I love the aesthetics in a lot of these fighting games though. Not being held back by all the open world nonsense I suppose gives a lot of opportunity to just make things look fun

It looks really cool, but fighting games have never been my thing. The skill floor alone is usually several stories than where I stand, so I never am willing to put in the time required. Glad to see doing well since I assume it’s not woke. The gaming consumer has gone nowhere as you can see when the right games come around.

At this point 80% fun entertainment. The other 20% for shared social experience. Specifically I play games with a handful of family and friends and it's a decent way to catch up and have a shared activity whether in person or remotely.

Some of your points apply to me, specifically the second one regarding puzzle solving, but in the end it comes down to entertainment and it being fun for me to solve puzzles. Different traits applied in the past, but I think in a way I've outgrown almost any of the other motivation. The sense of winning, competition, domination, accomplishment, or what not is fleeting for minutes at best and not really motivational or something I attach any value to. If I'm going to brag or take pride in something it's going to be family or some large project I completed, etc. and really not ever the result of a video game.

That place isn't even what I'd call a bastion of Texas and full of locals anyway. It's a tourist trap. A bunch of tourists from all over don't like your mutilated self.

I like the take. We really needed to do what Patton said and continue and finish off the Soviets. Then we could have left without all the NATO, Cold War, Vietnam, etc. that helped to drive a lot of the empire and institutions up.
