From a straight drama perspective, you have the give the characters struggles and conflict or there's no story. So some regression is always going to happen when bringing back old heroes.
However, that doesn't preclude moving these characters to a mentor role and shifting to a new generation of heroes, like what Force Awakens seemed to be doing before Rian Johnson effed it all up.
On another level though there is a real push to destroy all the old heroes people like. It's market share monopolization; if people have nothing left but woke heroes then we'll actually start liking woke heroes, right? Rian Johnson and many other progressive types hate fantasy because it's inherently conservative, so they "deconstruct" it in order to transform it into a progressive fantasy. But it failed and people rejected it because it's just not Star Wars anymore.

edit This all reminds me of Comics Matter/Ya Boi Zack youtuber, talking about this stuff ages ago, pointing out how all these woke comics weren't selling and couldn't justify their existence as they had no real fans, yet Marvel kept pushing and pushing. And here's why. They knew in the long run everyone's contracts would be up, and it would be time to push new heroes and storylines, and by flooding the print books with all this trash they could convince the film people they had the "new hot thing" that everyone wanted, knowing no one would take a close look at book sales.

I still admire Marvel for the risks they took and the success they achieved, and created some of the most fun and enjoyable popcorn flicks of all time. All the criticism nowadays is fully justified, but people forget that Marvel took huge risks making films with B-list rejects that only nerds cared about, funded it themselves, achieved mainstream success, and built a film empire that made all the other studios seethe with envy.
Re: people like Martin Scorsese, if the MCU is just mass-market corporatized junk, why did every single attempt to copy it fail? Kevin Feige had the simple idea of mining 60 years of comic books for the best storylines and turning them into films, and it worked great. Now they are failing due to switching to woke crap from the entryists that have been sabotaging the comics since the early 2000s (Miles Morales was the canary in that coal mine). Doesn't change that characters like Iron Man and Thor or projects like the Avengers were considered risky bets and doomed to fail, but succeeded brilliantly.
The original Captain America First Avenger is my favorite single film out of the whole MCU, and I think Cap's movies in general are the most consistent in quality. Iron Man and Thor have their ups and downs, not to mention the C-list guys.

I only saw the first movie and thought wow, what a horrible piece of garbage. The classic problem of female authors: passive protagonist.
The only thing Katniss does that shows any initiative is take her sister's place. That's it. She is a total charisma vacuum, she spends the rest of the movie hiding and running away, and when it comes down to the finale instead of doing something interesting and killing her friend, she does the most passive-aggressive stupid teen girl thing ever: threatens to kill herself, and it works for some reason.
It's completely retarded "there has to be a winner" umm no, having the last survivors kill themselves is a perfectly fine ending that ties up the event nicely. The evil government just gives both provinces food and there's no living survivors to lead a movement against you. Duh.
