I was thinking this about Nigerians. Nigerians in Nigeria preside over what looks like to me a shitshow. Nigerians in America, I'm always told, are this educated group. Both can be true. People can be well educated and poorly behaved. I'm not an expert enough on Nigeria to promote some hypothesis about its problems. I just don't suppose that Nigerians are making here better.
America's problem is too many people with different expectations running around. From that perspective, "blacks" and Nigerians are very different groups.
Nigerians in America are the 'talented tenth' -- and often from the 'Igbo' tribe. They target education and do a generally fine job in the workforce (aided by affirmative action, of course). They are also impeccably behaved.
I still see a lot of cultural issues, but I agree that they are well educated on average.
Act like Americans, I think they do not, but no they're probably not out in the street murdering each other. For the most part, you'll notice that immigrants from far, far overseas aren't. It is the more local immigrants that seem to be the biggest criminals. Perhaps due to self selection during the long journey, as you were hinting at.
I think the same thing about Chinese to an extent. All the really dull ones are still in China.
Last time a country figured out that jews were the richest people in the country it led to all their assets being seized to the benefit of the non-jews... and a big war with internment camps and stuff so I can see why they hide it.

The data apparently came from the US census and the "American Community Survey." As you mention, there's no subgroup breakdown for black or white ethnicities. There is a "detailed ancestry" section, but it discloses some problems with that data. Israel comes up 35th in that list.
