I’m not going to lie. I liked the Harry Potter movies, I even ended up reading a few of the books afterwards. They were ok children’s stories that are essentially the heroes journey and very similar to Star Wars. But that’s it. It’s a good book to get children into reading long form novels.

The millennials who have made their whole identity Harry Potter or shaped their whole world view around some message they thought they picked up in Harry Potter need to grow up and read another book. Preferably not das kapital. But any other book.

I wouldn’t say all of their business model is garbage. They do require apps to request permission to gather information about the user and allow the user to say no. Facebook whined for a while how much that hurt their bottom line when that was expanded to all apps and not just magazine subscriptions.

Another good one to shut down conversation is when asked something like “how are you?” Actually go into detail about how you are doing. It’s used as a polite greeting but most people really aren’t interested in knowing any real detail. They just expect the reply to be good and to carry on

Address them by their name. That’s it. Refuse to play the game at all. And minimize interaction with them and their friends.
