Awww. Are the cartoon spiders scary? I'm sowwy, do you need a grown-up to help you get past the scary part?
No?
Oh, you just want the world to work around your irrational fear of fake bugs so you can feel safe from a non-existent threat?
That makes sense.... Completely rational.
Not really, many "phobias" are actually completely rational. Being afraid of spiders, heights, deep water, darkness, etc, all have very realistic biological roots. They're like genetic memories of things your ancestors have been conditioned to worry about, and for good reason.
That doesn't mean they should be catered to though. It's far better for somebody to deal with their fear in controlled and safe environments, like video games for instance.
Sure, I can agree with that.
I have a bark scorpion problem where I live. Last summer I killed 114 of them in and around my house. This year is rough, too. However, I've never felt any fear from something that I know to be fake -- like a scorpion in a game, for instance.
I would think people with fear of heights would be complaining more than people who fear spiders, since high places are far more common.
I think it's just silly all around.
hahahahaha im affraid of heights too, usually fine with games but in Destiny 2's Prophecy Dungeon theres a room where the walls become the floor and each phase your on a different surface... I was fine until I saw the sandfall moving sideways then I copped a massive flood of vertigo, its never happened before... didnt stop me from playing though
I know a game's good if I stand on the edge of a big drop and actually feel briefly uncomfortable. Plus points if there's no actual fall damage and I get to yeet my character for the thrill.
Also fear of heights. But that doesn't mean I want them to go away. Heck, in FO4 for example, I still like diving off the buildings in downtown boston while in power armor - my stomach ends up in my throat on the trip down but it does feel kinda good afterwards when I can crash down and not end up splattered into goo.
I do hope that no one listens to this idiot. I thought this things were funny some years ago but now I just know they are going to remove spiders as a monster.
Funny thing is I was thinking about this for a while, what if you can no longer kill wild animals in games since animal rights? If you are alone with a bear or wolf in the woods you can bet your ars you are going to kill it if you can.
What about snakes and snake like monsters?
What about undead, those are scary, there must be a phobia about that as well.
Next gen game will have white males preferably christian as the only approved evil monster. You just kill those to max level.
ANY rational rights advocate - for humans or other creatures - can see the fucking difference between shooting pixels in a fantasy game, and actually going around blowing living things away for shits and giggles and the good of the species or whatever the fuck.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be getting back to my Rimworld game where my Raccoon Men are harvesting organs from and doing genetic experiments on the random humans that wander into their clutches.
You're a horrific monster that needs reeeEducation to learn how to peacefully exist in society. You should be more like me and peacefully protest this federal courthouse until it is ashes. #punchnazis #georgefloyd
Oxymoron. No rational person spends all their fighting for rights (that already exist) for some other group of ungrateful people. Rational people deal with their own shit.
Yeah, it was almost the opposite. Most of the patriots in the game came across well, there was even one dude who was essentially a skinny version of Alex Jones, who ranted and raved about the globalists. My kind of man.
What's that thing they tend to throw back at the gaming public when we complain about overly-intrusive political or LGBTOMGWTFBBQ references in a game? "Maybe this game just isn't made for you"?
Yeah, that's how I feel about them bitching about "spoopy spydars" in a game. I have a fear of heights. Like, vertigo-inducing, stomach drops through my feet, legs turn to Jell-O anxiety when I get too close to a ledge with no railing - and yet for some reason I have zero problem jumping from rooftops in Assassin's Creed, but I digress. Regardless, I don't play games that trigger that fear when I recognize it - like Mirror's Edge. Same thought process goes here - if someone is an arachnophobe, then maybe they shouldn't play the fucking game. Simple as that.
From some other articles I saw, it appears that the devs of this game saw some youtube reaction videos of people saying spiders are scary, so they created an arachnophobia mode for anyone who's too big of a pussy to play the game the normal way.
They probably sent out a press release about it and, as usual, Klepek had to make it political. SJWs are like the HOA of the gaming community. They just want more stupid rules and regulations so things fit their gentrified vision of what "looks good" - and in the process they ban all manner of creativity and choice.
I'm terrified of Patrick Klepek. Will he remove himself from public life to prevent me from ever having to stumble upon him so that I can finally feel safe and included?
I've had arachnophobia most of my life. Don't know where it came from since I had no fear as a child, but it doesn't stop me. The System Shock 2 spider annelids always freak me out and make me nervous but don't scare me away from one of my favorite all time games. We need to end this fragile bullshit that's killing society.
Spiders creep me the fuck irl but I have never been creeped out in the slightest over a virtual fucking spider and I can't even imagine being that big of a pussy and being scared of a fake spider that's embarrassing
Girls are terrified of spiders, never managed to figure out if it's some sociatally enforced pantomime that they indulge in or if they are actually that pathetic...but it's certainly a thing.
I expect if I was that worried by something I would think that would make a kick ass baddie in a game...can't get you can it? But what would I know I'm sane?
Oh by the way I'm from a country with no dangerous spiders...if you live in Australia then you have every right to be scared of spiders.
Well that shows a certain amount of fear doesn't it? :)
I just leave spiders alone, they are fine....my wife is one of those women I was talking about 'kill it kill it'...sorry the best you are getting is a bottle and out the door.
I’m deathly afraid of micro transactions in full priced games, can we get rid of those. More seriously, if a dev wants to put in an “accessibility feature” that gets rid of certain things in the game to make it more playable for certain individuals than idc, but it should be a choice based on the dev’s wishes. I wouldn’t quite say I’m arachnophobic, but I definitely can’t stand the damn things. I would never turn on a feature to turn them off though.
So there was this game that released these weeks and I forgot the name, you play as kids who shrunk trying to survive on the garden and there are spiders.
They made a feature for people with arachnophobia but what it does is remove the spider legs so you end up with a floating leg-less spider that is far more fucking terrifying.
Pathetic soy boy parasites and scavengers posing as righteous idols make me so nauseated I physically can't stand to read any sites that feature them as authors.
Does this mean Klepek and pals will finally fuck off and stop excluding people with some measure of dignity?

Phobias by definition are completely irrational. Trying to cater to the minuscule group who are irrational is much more so.

Fear of IRL spiders is completely rational. Fuck spiders.
Sure, I can agree with that.

Well there are scary games, but yeah it does not count as an "accessibility" problem.
I'm afraid of heights on such an instinctual level that things move fast at the screen can often cause me to flinch and get a sharp stomach pain.
I still play Ass Creed and racing games because I'm not a fucking woman.

Rationality has left the game years ago. If they can change anything and everything in order to make it "inclusive" they will do it.
Oxymoron. No rational person spends all their fighting for rights (that already exist) for some other group of ungrateful people. Rational people deal with their own shit.
didnt TLOU2 do that? hahaha
Well they got serious blue balls from Far Cry 5 when they discovered it wasn't a white christian male Trump supporter murder simulator.
Yeah, it was almost the opposite. Most of the patriots in the game came across well, there was even one dude who was essentially a skinny version of Alex Jones, who ranted and raved about the globalists. My kind of man.
******man, ******man, does whatever a ****** can.
That's an illegal number of asterisks. Please remain in your home until placed in custody.
***** a ***, any time.

Funny how they keep pulling this line after they've taken a game that WAS made for you in the first place.
From some other articles I saw, it appears that the devs of this game saw some youtube reaction videos of people saying spiders are scary, so they created an arachnophobia mode for anyone who's too big of a pussy to play the game the normal way.

If I say I'm afraid of grass, will they also remove the grass?
I'm afraid of SJWs (They're murderous and hateful). Should be removed from gaming.
I hope the rest of non-pussified twitter responded with the most awful spider pictures they could find
what grade quality of cotton wool were these people raised in???
I'm terrified of Patrick Klepek. Will he remove himself from public life to prevent me from ever having to stumble upon him so that I can finally feel safe and included?

This is both gay and retarded.
Wouldn't playing video games with spider enemies be a mild form of exposure therapy and, therefore, be good for them?
Spiders creep me the fuck irl but I have never been creeped out in the slightest over a virtual fucking spider and I can't even imagine being that big of a pussy and being scared of a fake spider that's embarrassing

I don't know my wife crushes bugs all day with her bare hands same with my mom and stepmother
Well that shows a certain amount of fear doesn't it? :)
I just leave spiders alone, they are fine....my wife is one of those women I was talking about 'kill it kill it'...sorry the best you are getting is a bottle and out the door.
Why is it pathetic to be afraid of spiders?
Because they pose no threat...what do you think fear is for?
they can play something else, then.
or mod them out if it's possible.
What a pussy.

Well I fucking hate spiders too which is why I want to kill them in a video game
Isn't the entire point that it should be scary? Like I miss the times when movies and games would scare me.
To be fair, the spiders in Grounded can be fucking scary.
So there was this game that released these weeks and I forgot the name, you play as kids who shrunk trying to survive on the garden and there are spiders.
