Major League Baseball is going to start to fine players who write Bible verses on their caps. (archive.ph)

Not a yank, but isn't this wildly unconstitutional due to freedom of religion?

Or is this caveat the bit about the caps/uniforms?

Also wait and see this be ignored for every other religion.

Edit: lol, who had this timeline in the betting pool?

Also wait and see this be ignored for every other religion.

This is the part that really pisses me off, and I'm actively antitheistic. Its maddening how people will dump endlessly on christians/catholics/protestants/etc., but bring up the fucking jews or the muslims or what have you, and suddenly it's a problem.

No special exemptions. Either everyone is told no, or no one is told no.

I'm in the same boat but recognize that Christian culture made the western world, I'd be fine living in a theocracy. I don't know if this Jesus guy was real but evil really does seem to hate him. Sometimes, when I think about how much the left hates me I remember that they hated him first.

You have to remember that the people who constantly rank on Christianity are mostly fat yuppies in Western countries who live in safe, White Christian areas and thus have been privileged enough to never meet a muzzie or a jevv or a hindoo.

The other religions do not tolerate Atheism or dissent in their countries.

Only the Christian countries shelter atheists, only to then be hated by the atheists because the atheist is too dumb to realize the other religions would have torn him apart.

That is why Atheism is exclusively a western trait.

That is such it. I remember during all the Floyd riots seeing these cute little white guilt letters to the blacks, "Oh I am soooo sorry you lived on the other side of the bridge from you poor black people, oh it's all my fault I never loved you I'm soooo sorry." I'm just thinking, what the hell I lived with these people my entire life. I have no memory of a school without a notable number of blacks, a job without blacks, maybe I lived on a street without blacks at best. The funny thing is, I wasn't all that super racist either, I developed most of that seeing how they acted once the powers that be started riling them up. There was rarely a race thing when I was in school with them.

I'm totally done with atheists too, maybe I explored that in the past, really more of a Christianity is broken than atheism is right path. The way so many atheists carry themselves puts them down, and the historical reality that really an atheist society has never built anything.

There’s also something to be said for religion and it’s effects on family formation and legacy/building, vs. Homo Economicus grinding away for moderated hedonism and a retirement. Probably a part of Chesterton’s fence.

The way so many atheists carry themselves puts them down, and the historical reality that really an atheist society has never built anything.

This is one of the things I bring up often whenever I see an uneducated athiest (though, realistically, every athiest is uneducated) rag on religion and especially Christianity.

I remind them that they only have access to technology and the joys of convenience because of a Christian/Catholic WHITE nations that built it for them.

I asked one fellow what society was built out of a foundation of athiesm and he tried to argue that the modern CCP was built on athiestic foundations. I had to remind him that the CCP was built out of the remnants of the people's revolution, which itself, was built out of the nation-building religious foundations of Confucianism.

I also pointed out to him that the current CCP is crumbling under the weight of hedonistic materialism, and their birth rates are in the gutter and their economy is about to collapse, which basically shows that any established civilisation atheism inherits will quickly crumble due to the flimsy nature of moral relativity and the lack of higher sacrificial goals.

General idea for me, I was raised typical-ish southern Christian, but I went away from that. What brought me back to full Christian believer at least is exactly that, look around at the results of societies. Look which ones were successful. Look which sets of values the world was better off with.

Would I say I'm some perfect Christian, not in the slightest. I have a lot of disdain for the state of modern Christianity to the point I just can't have myself participate in a lot of what a typical outsider sees as Christian. There's so many who proclaim Christian left and right and have missed the point entirely.

I'd really have nothing to deal with atheists except for the ones that come around if you mention anything theistic, especially Christianity, and sprint right to "look how stupid you are, worshiping the imaginary skydaddy, I'm smart and educated and I know better than that." They interject themselves into the dialogue where it wasn't even necessary.

It doesn't take balls to be heretical.

– cccpneveragain 5 points 2 days ago +5 / -0

Yeah I don't think there's any provision anywhere in the bible allowing you to covertly or directly bow to other gods as trickery. It's just not allowed.

The Christian balls would be walking away from MLB over it, and doing your best to convince any other Christians to do the same. There's actually enough Christians in MLB I bet it would work if they all did, but the reality is the love for money is great and I don't think they'd ever get a big enough group to risk it.

You can absolutely mock other (false) religions. St. Paul himself did so.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 3 ▼
– cccpneveragain 3 points 2 days ago +3 / -0

Oh yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of things that border more on blasphemy, for example a Christian writing "Allahu Akbar" on their hat in defiance. I mean I'm sure it can be argued as a gray area, it's just not one I'd go to.

Mockery, that's entirely different story. I even almost lump "Synagogues of Satan" in that category and those were Jesus words, although probably not meant as mockery.

Which talmud verses? The ones that say it's okay for jews to rape Christian children? Or that we have no souls and are cattle? Or my favorite; the one that says letting a Goy in on the secrets of the jews is tantamount to TJD because that's what we would do if we knew.

The bill of rights restricts government, not sportsball

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 9 ▼
– ApexVeritas 9 points 2 days ago +9 / -0

That's unironically what leftists, libertarians, and zionist right wingers argue. They say it's fine if your liberties are infringed, so long as it's not government doing so (unless they're in power). They're perfectly fine with any other entity (like private corporations) turning you into a slave with no rights. They think concentration of power is only dangerous when government does it.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 4 ▼
– cccpneveragain 4 points 2 days ago +4 / -0

They did that private company for all of 2020 and 2021. Oh no the government isn't enforcing your vaccine or your mask. We the government recommend it. The private company can deny your access to their services, fire you from your job, etc. It's their right as a private company. Try to not make a faggot a wedding cake though and see how that goes.

This is the exact argument I got into with my managers during Covid. They were "conservatives", so I asked them: "effectively, what's the difference if the government enforces all of this on us, as opposed to all of the corporations?" They didn't know how to respond and just skirted around the question to try to force the bullshit masks, social distancing, and such.

They're also deliberately ignoring the elephant in the room: NGOs have been circumventing restrictions on government power for decades. Any power we deny our government is at this point quickly outsourced to non-governmental organizations (which are somehow still funded by our tax dollars).

There's an easy way to avoid it being seen as an attack on religion. The rules say everyone has to wear the exact same uniform, hence the name. So the fines would be for simply not being in uniform.

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 23 ▼
– SmiggieBalls 23 points 2 days ago +23 / -0

Which they will conveniently totally set aside the next time there's some negro or faggot worship catch phrase players want to write on their uniforms. The second there's another "SAY HIS NAME" or "JUSTICE FOR DAMARCUS" or some other shit, the rule won't apply anymore.

Just so we're clear on it, we're looking for a uniform modification that was permitted during a game, just so we're getting a 1:1 here.

Kneeling isn't altering the uniform.

The claim you made was that the rule of "everyone has to wear the exact same uniform" didn't apply to blacks since "at least Trayvon Martin." Do you have an example of that or not?

There are cases with players writing stuff on the cap that the league didn't do stuff about. They are included in the shared article

permalink parent save report block reply
▲ 1 ▼
– Modeler43 1 point 2 days ago +1 / -0

Ah, I see. Thank you!

As just one example, during the 2025 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays, players from both sides wrote "#51" on their hats as a gesture of support for Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia. Vesia and his wife tragically lost their newborn baby daughter as the series started.

I feel like this can very well be seen as an exception with every member of the team doing it, especially in regards to the nature of the situation. Also, this one is misleading (slightly) considering the "51" was stitched onto the Dodgers hats. The Blue Jays relievers wrote theirs to match, and given the situation I would fully support MLB turning a blind eye to it.

Aroldis Chapman and Adolis Garcia in 2021 wrote "SOS CUBA" on their hats during the All-Star Game that year.

The All Star Game has typically allowed for more flexibility in team uniforms, considering that players are either all wearing their normal team jerseys or jerseys with their home team logo. There are rules in regular MLB seasons regarding cleats and bat colors, for example, but those are relaxed in the All Star Game.

Another Dodgers reliever, Blake Treinen, drew two crosses with Charlie Kirk's name on his hat after Kirk was assassinated in 2025. Clayton Kershaw also wrote a Bible verse on his "Pride Night" hat.

This is the best example though of rules for one player but not another. I agree it should be enforced across the board.

My understanding is not every team is fielding rainbow logo caps. The Braves had their pride event on June 4th and wore their normal uniform for the game. I just checked, even in peak woke year 2022 they didn't wear the hat on pride night. the fact that there is even pride night on the books makes me glad I stop giving them money going on 9 years now.

Would it be top kek if a player openly asks to be traded to a team that doesn't force him to wear the hat? Or deface it and pay the fine? Yes. But players are trying to secure generational wealth, they're not gonna rock the boat over one night being on a woke ass team. Fans will gripe but they worry more about the standings than another gay 50 dollar hat. So nothings gonna change.

If they actually start doing that (long before, really, but it's a good a red line as any), these guys should all protest. Make a stink about it. Enough people are tired of this bullshit at this point to make a difference. But they won't, because theyre terrified they will lose their multi million (or tens/hundreds of million) dollar career. And part of me doesn't blame them.

Really, both the players and the public have miserably failed in their resistance to rainbow mafia bullshit and it will continue until it meets enough resistance. Even if it may seem to have taken a small step back recently to some, it still quietly advances in the background.
