Protecting your nation from a violent communist takeover is not evil. There is absolutely no reason not to sympathize with men who fought back against commies successfully and then were mass murdered by the entire western world just for doing what was in the interest of self preservation.

Self preservation against communists was why that party gained power. After that it was all revanchism, taking back land lost at Versailles(which was still full of Germans), until France and England responded to the German and Soviet invasion of Poland by declaring war on only Germany.

No, they were still Socialist, their version of Fascism was just combined with a, frankly, faked version of Bushido code. It's actually like if you had a National Socialism, with no opinion towards Jews, and run entirely by a military class. Bushido was their version of Volkism, and actually just as fictional. It might have worked if not for the facts that wars are won by logistics and that the allegedly neutral US, the only great industrial power outside of bombing range, was sending supplies to the Soviets and British to keep them in the war. Their delusions of grandeur were based on their Socialist meta-narrative and were inseparable from their ideas. The mass murder of innocents was, again, a core component of their Socialist meta-narrative and was unavoidable.
The National Socialists were never an over-reaction, as Hitler himself had attempted to portray the NSDAP as a more reformist or even centrist party that could ensure that Socialism could be done properly. His murder of Rohm was a desperate attempt to prove to the German people that the NSDAP could finally be moderated in it's violence, but still create a working Socialist country.
The NSDAP were the German people deluding themselves into thinking that they could get a form of soft-revolutionary Socialism right this time, and destroying 15 million German lives and every single major city for an inevitable failure.

The shitty part to all of this is that we clearly need a better meta documentation of Hitler life, let alone the Interwar and Pre-war periods. (I personally refer to 1917-1921 as the Great Communist Revolt, seriously, take a look at how many revolutions, riots, strikes, race riots, and conflicts take place and see how each of them are treated distinctly from one another with no relation; despite all of them being openly Leftist)
