Keep in mind a lot of the subtext behind the characters is lost/discarded in the show.
Cat is a fucking retard in the books who thinks she knows better than everyone. Pretty much every single thing that goes wrong at the start of the story is her fault for being so fucking arrogant.
One.
Why does Tyrion get arrested? Because Cat thinks he's the one that tried to kill Bran. He didn't.
Why does he get away? Because Cat thinks going to the Eyrie will mean an easy trial that goes her way. It doesn't.
Not only does she try and fail to railroad Tyrion's trial, but because of local customs and laws the fact Tyrion wins a trial by combat means even if he did try to kill Bran he's no longer on the hook.
Two.
She releases Jaime Lannister in order to get her daughters back from King's Landing. Not only does she have zero fucking idea if either of them are still alive but she literally goes against the will of her son Robb, the now King in the North, who had imprisoned him, so she also commits treason.
On top of all this both girls escape King's Landing before Jamie even gets there in the books. Jaime isn't present for the Purple Wedding when Joffrey dies. He arrives when Cersei is already mourning in the tomb beside her son's body.
Three.
She even ends up getting herself killed, along with her son and most of his men by steering events towards the Red Wedding.
How?
The Red Wedding basically happens because Robb goes against the promise to marry one of Walder Frey's daughters. The happens because Rob marries someone else after the news his brothers have been killed drives him into depression and he finds comfort in the arms of the daughter of one of his noble lords. In the show it's some random nurse, but regardless he still marries the girl because of his perceptions of honour having now slept with her.
Why was Robb betrothed to one of the Frey daughters? Because Rob's men needed to cross a certain River in order to reach Jaime's army attacking Riverrun, the only way to do this was with the permission of Walder Frey who gives 3 conditions: take 1 of his sons on as a squire and eventually knight him, marry Arya to one of his sons, and marry Robb to one of his daughters. Robb initially agrees to this but because of how events play out the above happens.
One of the events that leads to this is Cat's brother engaging the Mountain in combat and driving his army back while Robb had originally planned for Cat's brother to only mount a token defense and keep the Mountain's army nearby.
Why is this what Robb expects to happen? Because he doesn't think his uncle is that good to actually engage and beat the Mountain as happens. Why? Because that's how Cat feels about her brother and so informs Robb of her own prejudices which once again prove to be completely fucking wrong.
The same thing comes up later in the show when the same uncle tries to speak at the very end when the council is trying to decide who should become the new King, and Sansa tells him to "sit down, uncle". The whole character of Edmure was a fucking joke in the show all because it did the same thing Cat did not only in the books and show that lead to Robb dying, but then also does the same thing with Sansa and others thinking the same false info.
Four.
Another piece of subtext about the characters, Sansa lies. She's written as an unreliable narrator in her POV chapters and constantly gives conflicting info while playing the perpetual victim. The fact her show character is just as retarded isn't a surprise seeing as how badly the show handled Cat and her own screwups.
You're wrong about Sansa. Because she is smart! How do I know she is smart? Because the characters in the show kept saying she was smart! S-M-R-T! I mean S-M-A-R-T!
Nothing in GOT is consistent because GRRM is a pantser. Sansa was written to be a bad guy in the first book, then that storyline was abandoned and she had no purpose anymore. It's why the lore obsession with the series is so stupid.
I was really bored 8 years ago, and watched the commentary track on many of the GoT seasons. Each episode had 1-4 actors or staff for the commentary. Emilia was at least mildly entertaining to listen to. Sophie and Maisie just gave stereotypically annoying teen/pre-teen vapidly girly and irrelevant commentary that one can imagine. These 2 did not mature and acquire tolerable personalities upon passing what was Emilia's age during filming.
Classic example of what OSC emphasized in Ender's Game (or PG's "Why Nerds are Unpopular" essay) about age (in a vacuum) being a minor factor distinguishing kids from adults.
How many times are they going to try and reboot this franchise into a movie?
The originals vaguely worked because it leaned fully into the sex appeal angle, and that only got two. Without that Lara Croft is literally a generic action girl that we have dozens of every year, and nobody cares in the slightest. And even then, Angelina Jolie was in her peak "hottest woman alive" phase back then to pull those numbers, and this bitch ain't got nearly that level of draw.
Lara raiding museums to liberate relics "stolen" by white men, even had they been left the relics would be long destroyed.
Lara hating her father who was one of said white men, even though he's the one who paid for her entire privileged life.
Lara possibly giving away all her wealth.
Yet another disaster involving a Game of Thrones actress doing the white saviour trope when even the actual show managed to fumble that something epic.
There isn't even morale to degrade. Its a series that was long dead completely on its own because its big claims to fame were made irrelevant by technology. The "reboot" game series barely made one game before people started ignoring it.
The only justification I can find for these movies is the license has become so cheap, by aforementioned irrelevancy, that you can just slap it on generic action girl scripts for maybe a slightly higher return.
Sophie is the most unathletic non-buxom actress in the Game of Thrones cast. About the only things she shares with Lara Croft are a British passport and a ponytail.
Anyone expecting this project to turn out well before this casting announcement needs to get checked anyway. Go hog wild. Cast Greta Thunberg or Patricia Arquette for all we care at this point. Woke is woke. Dead is dead.

Rose Leslie or Natalie Dormer would both be far better choices for Lara Croft, and that's just picking from GoT alumni. Even Emilia Clarke would be better.
