Man, I'm sure going to miss... [Checks notes for the last good game]... For Honor when that corp finally burns to the ground and the servers all go dark.

Seriously though, I see no downsides to the inevitable here.

As an added silver lining, losing all the shitty open world gaming gruel they've been serving for the best part of a decade might also be one of the best ways to wake up the mindless consumer demographic to the evils of always online single player games without actually having to lose anything of value.

Isn't it closer to two decades at this point? When did asscreed come out?

Nov 2007.

Not quite two decades, but almost.

Every game will have gacha mechanics and ultra-aggressive microtransactions like every Chinese product does as well.

You are saying that like Assassins Creed doesn't already have XP boosts in a single player game.

True, but it can always get worse.

communists will never again be the villain of a story

It’s nice of them to preserve some of Ubisoft’s values like that.

Say what you want about Chinese communism, at least its an ethos!

Seriously though, I'd take this trade in a heartbeat. At least communists have a future, unlike troonists.

And at the very least it'll put market pressure on the remaining US studios to cut the woke crap out and put out reasonable products once more.

They'll keep the spotlight on having attractive women again, White male main characters in some of the bigger titles to bring older fans back in.

This is wishful thinking.

That's exactly what they did with Marvel Rivals, though.

I wonder if they can even pull that off. Ubisoft is so rotten to the core they'd have to fire 90% of the people there. Probably not going to be doable due to worker protection laws in the West and government intervention in take overs.

Alternatively they might just buy the rights to the more valuable franchises and let Ubisoft itself wither and die.

They'll let the current ownership do that due to losses. They'll buy the husk of Ubisoft for its IPs and what brand worth it has left and to get a stronger foothold in Western entertainment markets. From there, they'll use in-house studios to build out the games with some French executives left to oversee general content direction, but it will likely go exactly as Smiggieballs outlined in his post.

It continues to be amusing that the most well received and successful thing Ubisoft has done in years is the Mario/Rabbids XCOM-like games, a concept so fucking ridiculous it still boggles the mind who thought of it. And its likely because they both didn't give an iota of a fuck about a thing that stupid (and had Nintendo mandating them along the way) that it managed to be so good at the end.

Which seems to be a theme for them. The games they want to make and put a lot of effort in, like Watch Dogs or AssCreed, are constantly shit and nobody likes them.

But then their retarded "X but in Y" games like Mario/Rabbids or Fenyx Rising are allowed to just be decent games that can escape their politics and full brunt Wokeness.

I didn’t know Fenyx Rising was from Ubisoft.

Ubisoft Quebec specifically, whose only real full games besides that were South Park Fractured Butthole, and Asscreed Odyssey.

And are now the ones making Asscreed Nigger Edition, which is very funny how they managed to finally escape "ports and DLC" hell and are now probably gonna bankrupt the entire company.

Ubisoft Ubituary has a night ring to it.

A wake for the woke studio's death also rings nicely.

Press S to Spit after they tried to rewrite Japanese history and then merely retreated to ''well this is historically debated'' ( it's not, there was never a black samurai ) when nearly everyone hated them for it.

They should make a game about the 'elites' in France having it in their heads to import millions of former colonial subjects into mainland France in order to offset population decline due to feminism and institutional capture by morally enfeebled and depraved left-progressives.

Great comment, but why would anyone play that when they could just open a window and watch it in real time 🤷🏼‍♂️

All they had to do was pump out mediocre titles, nothing ground breaking but without woke nonsense.

And they couldn't even manage that. Good riddance.

They made good games once upon a time. Now it's overproduced underperforming samey-ness with higher requirements than the last game, and also injected real life politics.

I'll probably miss the Division 1's survival mode. The rest, losing online co-op will be disappointing if they just patch them to be single player. Or chances are they'll just close up and we won't be able to play anything Ubisoft anymore.

The Original Assassin's Creed was their last good single player game. All the good games since that I thought were Ubisoft (Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon Zero Dawn [sue me]) were in fact different developers and publishers that took the ubislop formula and actually made a good game with it.

I wonder if they'll sell trackmania? I would love for that game to be free from ubisoft's clutches.
