Gamefaqs has been dead of real value for years. Their only useful continued traffic has been to text guides for games too old to get anything modern.
Like, their forums were a Tumblr-lite shithole in the 2000s, this is almost perfectly on brand for them and the correct type of market research for the users of the site.
Oh yeah, I still use it regularly because there really isn't a replacement for it nor the great value that a good Text Guide can provide. Especially older games where the level of effort put into some is well above most paid guides of the time.
But if you venture off the guide section at all, its nothing but the most juvenile and proto-woke idiots possible.
The author retains the copyright on the submitted material, and their name is added to the site's "Contributor Recognition" section.
It would be worth scraping the site, and setting up an "archival project" complete with at least the appearance of DMCA reporting functionality just to bleed them of 99% of their traffic.
I liked that site for having actual written game guides. I don't often look things up and I don't want to go through hours of playthrough videos to find something that is often as simple as "what the hell controls do I press to do _____?"
"Community Manager" is the worst and most useless fake job. I'd put them right there with sex trafficker. They are probably more close than you think.
I left my account idle… sometime around 2014-2016. Saw the evolution of the participants and realized that I could no longer speak the same language or inhabit that reality. Not LUE but some other boards… a damned shame.
Mine had been dorment also. I feel the urge to delete it or if there's no option ask for support to delete it and tell them why. Fucking hell, used to be such a great site that I had a bookmark on my bar for years and years.
I like how they leave out that they're shoehorning "representation" for representation's sake, completely sidestepping the fact that now all the big players have to cater to the communist commisar for a golden sticker of approval from investors, which I think everyone should have a problem with because it isn't the customer that is the intended audience anymore.
It's not a process that shits out good games and it makes people hate you, I am sorry.
It was useful both as a help board and interactive wiki/community site for every game, as well as having community boards, LUE for instance being famous and 4chan ish or… that garbage dump of humanity that Zoe Quinn spawned from (somethingawful? Tumblr? Something else?) adjacent communities of the early aughts.
Gamergate broke there, too, on Gamefaqs, one of the original fronts.
Looks like when they got bought they got it hoisted on them in 2022.
I don't ever remember visiting the boards at all. The guides a few times. But the boards maybe once or twice, and I can't honestly remember if it was helpful.
My advice would be to just copy and paste the guides you want to keep now and keep them locally, before they're deemed unworthy too.
Them shutting down CE was a good thing. Ever since 2016, they stopped allowing viewpoints from all but one side. It was either "you agree wholeheartedly with whatever opinions the left-leaning mods hold, or you get banned".
This created a toxic wasteland that the new owners apparently wanted to quarantine.
So now the mods can all smugly rule over their kingdom of ashes. Congrats!
Yes, they’re dogshit. I was permanently banned from there for pointing out that MK fanbois happy with black Rain and Asian Kitana should also be fine with white Jax.
Turned into a grooming site. Gamers tend to be of a younger demographic. Such a preposterous focus on Big Tech's chosen people (trenders) means only thing: grooming.
Ha, just like when newgrounds shut off the politics and general forum because their "community managers" were being dragged in every political pissfight they got into.
So how the hell can they say in one post "only gaming topics please" and then minutes later in another post say "but gender identity topics are okay"? It just goes to show that their forums never had any value.
The only real reason to use that site is the text guides anyways. And even with that you can just copy and paste into a text document. Hell, I'm making a readable epub and pdf out of those guides. With pictures and css tables.
Right in the nostalgia. Place has been around since the 90's! Anyway, it reminded me of reddit in many ways. GameFAQs moderator has the reputation it does for a reason. Anyway, lots of cult like conformity on some boards, but some were fun and you could be a goofball when the moderators were sleeping.
Sucks. I know it's been garbage for years, but that was the first place I found as a youngster to talk and read about videogames. I choose to remember what it was, not what it became

Still a great site for console games and Jrpgs that the big sites don't bother with.

I didn't even know they had anything but the guides. I've only ever been to their site by linking from a search for a walk thru.
In their own words:

"no more political discussion, anyway here's a fuckton of links supporting trans people"
The right tends to know what leftists believe but the left has no idea what right wing folks tend to believe or why and they actively don’t care.
This censorship surrounding troons is arguably worse than wuflu.
Hard to do when reality is transphobic

LUE was my first message board. It's crazy to think that 20 years have passed.
Mine had been dorment also. I feel the urge to delete it or if there's no option ask for support to delete it and tell them why. Fucking hell, used to be such a great site that I had a bookmark on my bar for years and years.
Another LUEser reporting in.
Remember the night LUE kept calling that one pizza place in New York for some reason? That was a special time.
“That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.”
And no one lies better than DEI.

Are they doing anything to the guides themselves? I don't give a shit otherwise if I can still read my DSimpson.
Did anyone actually read GameFAQs forums?

God damn "community managers" are a plague. Should just call themselves "Narrative Managers" and be done with the song and dance bullshit.

Sad. I used to hang out on their boards many years ago, back before they sold out to gamespot.
Looks like when they got bought they got it hoisted on them in 2022.

There's surely a way to scrape all the useful content and post it for torrent or download.
GameFAGs is gay.

Careful with that thing. It's an antique.

GameFAQ has been dead for a while and I can't recall ever using it for anything other than SNES games text walkthroughs.
which is just criminal because that was an era when you could still get really good quality published game guides.
Many of those SNES walkthrough were obviously made with a deep appreciation for the game.
It was a good time.

They died like 20 years ago.
