There was also that memo from Insomniac Games, that was leaked by the people who hacked the company. It was also about prioritising the hiring of minorities. And I've been wondering about what's so different about the kind of stories I'd tell and the stories these misfits bring to the table. My kind of stories (am not writer, nor dev) would be something like investigating a locked-room murder mystery, where the victim was a time traveller, or a story where you have to evade a trio of high-paid assassins - and it's the Marx Brothers. I get the feeling these diversity-hires would never write a story like one of those, that the unique experiences they bring into their stories are those of anti-White, anti-male, anti-father, anti-Christian, anti-capitalism, anti-west and just plain anti-SUCCESS worldviews. And, obviously, that they all get to keep their jobs so long as they keep submitting stories like those. If your main focus is the hiring of misfits, don't be surprised when your product is defined by the presence of misfit perspectives and don't pretend that the injecting of misfit ideologies wasn't your sole purpose all along.

As an aside, I saw a Reddit thread some months ago, it was about the total lack of jewish characters in Star Trek. And one of the comments was kvetching about something called "christianocentric stories." This confused me. The stories in Star Trek have always been about forgiveness, tolerance, egalitarianism and all other liberal fetishes. Did these obvious Star Trek fans of jewish descent not feel represented by these values, and if so: why? Would a Federation defined by tribalism, closed borders and old grudges be more to their liking?

No Jews in Star Trek.

Nemoy wrote in his 1975 Biography that the hand sign was inspired by this other hand sign that a Rabbi does to bless people

In his 1975 autobiography I Am Not Spock, Nimoy, who was Jewish, wrote that he based it on the Priestly Blessing performed by Jewish Kohanim with both hands, thumb to thumb in this same position, representing the Hebrew letter Shin (ש in Square Script, or Paleo Hebrew 𐤔‎), which has three upward strokes similar to the position of the thumb and fingers in the gesture. The letter Shin here stands for El Shaddai, meaning "Almighty (God)", as well as for Shekhinah and Shalom. Nimoy wrote that when he was a child, his grandfather took him to an Orthodox synagogue, where he saw the blessing performed and was impressed by it.

Average Redditor moment.

If I'm hired based on my networking skills I expect to add value to anything related to networking but if you are hired because you are not white then what do they expect to add value on?

Only logical thing is they are going to just make everything about race.

DIE policies will always produce poor quality products.

Forgiveness tolerance and egalitarianism aren't Jewish values.

None if them are, but forgiveness especially is one they reject culturally, as well as the concept of redemption

Kinda miss the days when people who were talented got the jobs instead of people who are the right color for the checkbox.

The executives were always nepotistic hires, with the exception when a talented person creates the company in the first place. It is true that they wanted the rank and file workers to be competent though, rather than filling their ESG check boxes.

Nepotism isn't bad. It's simply prioritizing your friends and family who you depend on and depend on you. I'd rather have someone less competent that I can trust and rely on than hire someone more competent that I cannot rely on.

Demonizing nepotism is just another j trick to get you to hire outside your circle of trust.

Nepotism is both good and bad. Good in your instance, bad in the instance of James Dolan’s entire existence before 2020, John Fisher’s ownership of the Oakland Athletics, and I can go on, even about non-sports matters, but those at least drive the point across.

Nepotism isn't inherently bad. Of course if your family/friends are not suited for the job your company will suffer but thats up to you to decide. I still value loyalty and trust a lot.

Bottom of the page is a hoot.

Anyone involved in hiring practices are prohibited from asking candidates and talent about their actual or perceived race religion, color, sex, orientation, gender, gender identity, military or veteran status, age, disability, or any other legally protected categories.

Because asking is illegal but telling people to hire by them is not.

Title of that section is:

"Context is critical when evaluating if a group is 'underrepresented'"

Because it's not only illegal to ask about those things directly, but also question designed to uncover them. Like you can't ask what hair products they use to see if they have nappy hair.

HR is telling them do it sneakily, trying to get the candidate to volunteer something and to keep the discrimination decision criteria under the table. Not a lawyer, but this has got to increase their liability a thousand fold.

They’ll try anyways. If they are smart, they’d go after it as “confidential information” and inadmissible in court. However, Disney’s MO has been throw money at the problem and keep it out of view.

At least they can drop the "representation" part. There is nothing in there where they need to match the general population. If they have 100% black or 100% gay it meets the standards. Just have as few white men as possible.

To be honest, I think we should just resign ourselves that Star Wars will not come back. Disney is full of activists already, just changing leadership will not change much.

There is also some political innocence in older movies that I don't think we're getting back anytime soon.

I've heard there's a lot of good and bad in the extended universe and have no clue where to start.

The best place to start I’d say is the Thrawn Trilogy by Zahn. First book is Heir to the Empire. Starts out around 5 years after the events of ROTJ. There are a lot of books but that would be the first I’d suggest. Plus there are books in Prequel era, old republic era, during OT era, and post ROTJ.

If you like the starfighter combat, read the X-Wing series. The final book in the series is essentially the writers having a sendoff of their characters before Lucas sold off the IP and killed the EU.

I'd say start with thrawn as well, if you want to start in canonical time the book you want is 'Truce at Bakura'. Also check out the 'Jedi Academy Trilogy' for what I feel would've been an excellent sequel trilogy if you cut out a few of the elements that didn't work and my personal favorites. the tales from Mos Eisley/Jabbas Palace/Bounty hunters/Imperium and Rebbellion, a short story anthology series which give a good ground view of life in the star wars EU.

Idk why people are so obsessed with star wars. It was a sci-fi trilogy from the 70s. It's not some permanent and everlasting monolith we must adhere to for eternity.

It is a fun setting that had a lot of passion behind it. It was the original trilogy that was a big hit but it also spawned a ton of books and some great games.

KOTOR 1 &2 and Jedi Outcast and Academy are great.

It is not just the movies but all the passion and love from fans that made it great. People don't realize that the original trilogy, while a very nice movie the plot itself is not some masterpiece.

Then somehow, because there was this great passion behind it normies became "fans", they did not know characters, did not read any books, did not play the games, some times they did not even watch the original movies but they did have several SW T-shirts and a mug.

Disney had a great opportunity to make an epic series that would have remained in history, but they didn't, they made trash. And we are here now.

In truth, very few of us older fans still care, I don't, Smith1980 still does and hopes we will get some cool EU story or some old republic trilogy. I don't care but I do want Disney to be held accountable for ruining a hobby that I cared about.

Always has sentimental value for me since it was my first “nerd interest growing up”. I still read the old books but no longer have Disney plus so don’t follow it. As for sci-fi books I love the golden age.

It's a systemic problem.

I enjoy writing short stories and have had a few published in smaller e-zines, but if you're a straight white male there is a massive barrier to higher publication.

The leftist indoctrination is so ingrained in the "creative" communities that skilled writers are shunted aside for diverse drivel.

Hell, just to prove my point, I entered a story to several magazines under two names, my own and a black female I invented for the experiment. The work under my name was often rejected automatically, but I received several offers for publication as the black persona within a day. This truly opened my eyes, and I have been committed to self-publishing since.
