If only someone in the boardroom had asked….”why are we focusing so much on the female audience when guys buy the majority of comics?”
Then he got thrown out of the window.
The women tried tossing him through the glass ceiling, but weren’t strong enough
They eventually got one of their token trannies down the hall to help.
Because it takes a Woman+ to shatter the glass ceiling.
This movie will shatter the glass floor. Unfortunately for them, they're standing on it.
Ha! I was thinking of that when I was typing
Because it’s Disney who has managed to even feminize ESPN into tanking every single talk show they have because they force a brainless token female into at least one seat. The only successful show they have is college gameday, and that’s because it’s the only one they were smart enough to leave alone.
My dad and I watched a ton of ESPN back in the day. As an 80s/99s kid/teen I saw a lot due to my dad watching. I used to DVR a lot of shows like Around the Horn until they lectured about kids in cages. Then I saw the way they wouldn’t shut up about kneeling for the anthem
They don't give a fuck! They aren't making these decisions thinking these choices are what is going to generate the most money.
These companies are absolutely infested with leftist indoctrinates who are absolutely convinced that, regardless of how these garbage films perform, that they are doing a good thing. Seriously, they are 100% convinced that anyone who opposes them - more importantly, their ideology - is evil.
Somewhere up the chain? Sure, there might be some investors that are genuinely mad that profitability isn't coming into the decision making process, but they are outnumbered by the indoctrinates now.
I can’t argue with that. If they cared they would’ve known the all new all different marvel bombed and that women don’t buy comics at the level some are convinced they do.
I mean I wouldn't even blame them if they actually went hard on the messenging, but seems like they just shoved minority women into the movie and called it a day. they were free to spend someone else's money and they couldn't even generate enough controversies for hate watching, both sides just kinda go meh and promptly forget this movie existed the next week
if they were super models and with sexy/likeable personality, maybe.
This. It was part of the selling point of the female-protag marvel comics in the first place. Super feminine, great bodies, tight outfits (no tighter than their male counterparts). Typically not full of feminist whining, which helped.
Of course that's super sexist (but not Thor walking around with no shirt on, of course) so it had to be cleansed of any possible thing guys could enjoy from it.
I really hope this bombs. Their comic books bombed but the refuse to admit that
This should be sufficient evidence that Disney absolutely bought out theaters for the first captain marvel. There’s no way that movie legitimately made a billion dollars.
This is the same as the last Jedi, two mediocre movies were enough to make the cash roll in before because they didn’t completely alienate half or more of the audience. The Witcher on Netflix was the same after they tossed Cavill who was the carrying force of the entire series. You can’t keep hype when you intentionally shit all over the fan base to appease people who never cared about the IP to begin with.
You underestimate the normie appetite for cape slop. Also they squeezed it in right before End Game which was one of the most anticipated movies of all time.
Captain Marvel came out before they started really heavily with 'THe mEsSAge', and was really the first to do so, while making painful efforts to try and shoehorn that mess in at the last minute.
It was also a schizoprenic mess, and when you realize it went through something like 5 or 6 directors/writers or some such, it makes perfect sense.
I can also never figure Brier Lawson out. I don't know whether she just keeps getting bad directors, is completely autistic, or some mix of the two.
Any MCU movie would have made a billion if it was the movie before Endgame.
Budget of 200+ million, not accounting for advertising, probably 400+million at the end of it, and it might barely make that, which is considered a massive failure on the part of the movie industry.
It was explained to me the goal is 1.5 to 2x the production and ad budget, though that person could have been wrong.
Bad movies are bad, and especially with characters nobody cares about or likes.
But muh black girl magic (an actual line in the movie, btw, total cringe)
Seriously? “Black girl magic?”
Yes.
Samuel L. Jackson literally tells whichever girl is the black one to use black girl magic. It's in the trailer.
The funny thing is the line before that which is supposed to also be home clearly isn't his voice. Completely different accent.
Even if the whole thing wasn't cringe, it's a bad sign when you have to insert lines from completely different people
"Monica, you need to fly right now!"
"But I... uh..."
"BLACKGIRLMAGIC!!!"
That's so fucking retarded. And it's really condescending. That'd be like having a Hispanic superhero shouting "latinx justice" as he beat up the bad guys. Although I can't rule out the possibility that happened in Blue Beetle. Hollywood sucks.
Tacos.
There wasn't much advertising for this movie. For the movie to make profit, the typical calculation is: claimed budget multiplied by 2.5. x2 to cover budget + advertising expenditure, and x0.5 for the profit margin.
If this movie makes less than $300 mil, it's a hardcore flop.
Down to $3.50 by the end of the week?
"Someone dropped some spare change by the door of the room Marvel was projected, include that into box office numbers NOW! Oh and count the deposit of abandonned soda cans."
Dammit. I already used the "Is that, like, a personal attack or something?" line. I should have saved that until after the opening weekend box office reports came in.
"Is there anything good about The Marvels? Yes, there is. At 1 hour and 45 minutes, it is the shortest MCU movie ever made."

I've been reading 35-40 million on its opening weekend.
Seems Variety are still drinking the Kool aid.
I miss the days when shit like this was all that seem to be worth talking about. With the world going to shit as it is, entertainment companies being stupid is now at the bottom of my list.
I'm surprised it's that high tbh.
I still laugh at the fact that entire theaters laughed/clapped when Capt MarySue got rekt in one of the Avengers movies (forgive me, haven't watched anything past the first Avengers movie).

Fuck!
Was just on an Army base for a boot camp graduation this week. They had a free screening ad for The Marvels plastered everywhere on base.
Just? Why is it even making $5?
The shills probably got tired after the 7th TV show in a row that needed constant and continuous effort to maintain the narrative on, so by now they don't have the strength to keep going.
Falcon and Winter Soldier probably took the effort of 3 bad movies alone to argue "stopping literally terrorists is actually bad if you are a white guy" among other retardation.
