It's a humiliation display. You can't change my mind.

That grotesque statue of Jesus is the same shit.

You are correct.

Each Pope has a specific purpose by God, and I believe Francis' purpose, even if he doesn't realize it, is to disgust Catholics enough to drive up religious fervor and bring about a new age of renewed worship and dogmatism. I'm actually kind of excited for a gen z Pope, as any religious gen z I've seen have been very heavily traditional.

The historical Popes would do things like holding gay orgies or openly worshipping Satan.

But anyway, https://apnews.com/article/archive-fact-checking-2283400002 is a great headline.

I'm not deeply fluent in the medieval history of Rome. What popes, specifically, do you have in mind?

Do you have any evidence to back it up? That article doesn't. You would think the mainstream sources would be jumping at the bit to demonize popes, but they don't talk about this anywhere, just his work at creating holy orders, Catholic universities, and churches.

Rumours which were spread by the Borgia's contemporary rivals and enemies (especially within the Vatican, who hated Borgia #1 for having apparently bought the Papacy). These accounts can not be fuly trusted and there are no verifying sources to corroborate.

What is true is that the Borgias were irrevocably corrupt, had mistresses and bastard offspring, some of whom were installed as Cardinals and future popes. They literally started a Papal dynasty.

What's wrong with celebration? There's nothing indecent going on here. Regarding the sculpture, it has a story, if anyone cares to look for it.

Its a cacophony of a performance. A bunch of acts just going all at once, no order, no cooperation, and shitty pop music.

Everyone else here may say its gay or satanic. I hate it cause its poor taste and doesn't deserve a stage.

The Church should be better than it. It's random noise. That group was sent there to mock the Church and the Pope fell for it.

Mecca, no.

They've infiltrated various other Christian denominations to various extents.

Faggots parading in the streets as open mindless hedonists is one thing, the snakes wearing a religious skinsuit are what piss me off the most.

Gay pride? It just looks like a bunch of circus performers to me. Besides, notice the Christmas tree in the background. From what I could look up, Rome celebrates gay pride in June.

Yeah--My first reaction was, "This is commedia dell' arte."

Still, it's hard to take. This Pope has zero dignity.

How would Bishop Barron rationalize this?

I would say that's part of the point of the display.

It's a cacophony of banal bread and circus type performances. There's no coordination to it, not even the timing of the tedious pop song they chose. They just told all of the dolts with their entry level circus acts to go out and do their very basic performance on stage, all at the same time, ad nauseam until the song stopped.

My favorite was the tard in the "oversized" pants shaking maracas or whatever the fuck next to the "pope". He's not even an "act", he's just there to add to the shamelessness.

Black people taking their time skipping rope in a lazy fashion are just another noise in the cacophony.

I admire her faith, even though I am doctrinally dead set against Catholicism. No man comes between me and Jesus, and I don't confess to anyone but Him.

That's not what Jesus said to do. Also the Church doesn't "come between" you and Jesus.

"And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build My Church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven." (Mt 16:18-19)

And like I said the Church isn't getting between you and Jesus. You can disagree with the Church. I personally disagree with the Church's stance that priests must be who you confess to before God forgives sin. That may change one day, as Church doctrine does.

It IS however the only earthly authority Jesus said can speak for Him. You can't ignore that scripture.

I recognize the importance and authority of the apostles in establishing the transcendent church (spirtitual not material) of Jesus Christ, I simply don't believe that authority is held by the catholic church or even anybody alive today.

Nobody knows exactly what Jesus meant by Matthew 16:18-19. Anyone that says they do is lying. It's open to interpretation.

The Catholic Church is the dead husk of the old establishment. Almost all of their doctrines and traditions were created to solidify their power and influence over society. Of course they would claim Matthew 16:18-19 is referring to them.

If you spend enough time in scripture, it's clear the "church" -- the body of Christ -- is referring to the body of believers, not some human institution which is prone to corruption by human influence.

C.S. Lewis nailed it in Ch. 2 of The Screwtape Letters

"One of our great allies at present is the Church itself. Do not misunderstand me. I do riot mean the Church as we see her spread but through all time and space and rooted in eternity, terrible as an army with banners. That, I confess, is a spectacle which makes I our boldest tempters uneasy. But fortunately it is quite invisible to these humans."

The Catholic Church is the dead husk of the old establishment. Almost all of their doctrines and traditions were created to solidify their power and influence over society.

This is always such a bizarre take because the early church was getting slaughtered and crucified for their beliefs and doctrines. It was not a ploy to rule society. The early church won over the people through their actions, martyrdom, people believing them, and their passion.

Check out Unseen Realm by Dr. Michael Heiser. Incredible book. Among many topics, he claims that specific verse is poorly translated, at best.

The argument is that the rock is the mountain they're on, Hermon, the gates of the underworld. Jesus is again asserting His primacy over death.

In any case, "prevail against it" is better translated "resist it." Jesus founds His Church at the gates of the underworld and death is overcome by the Church through Christ.

I don't know many people who give money directly to the Vatican. But local churches and parishes should be supported heavily, IF they are correctly preaching doctrine.
