The saddest thing is, this is a friend of Gaiman who died. And he still defends this. He still claims the casting is great, because he is a fucking retarded liberal.

Here's the thing though -- I never even cared about this shit being 100% faithful to the books/source material as long as they tried to keep it faithful to the spirit of the source material. I didn't care that they made Green Lantern black. I didn't care that they cast Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury because he's Samuel L. Jackson (of course, now that I know he's a virulent racist himself, I'm less inclined to see him on screen). Hell, I wouldn't have probably cared if they'd put Denzel Washington in as Clark Kent because he's Denzel, as long as they kept Superman Superman.
What I can't stand is a combination of about 3 things 1) the actual black-/gay-/LatinX-washing of a character and 2a) the crowing about "oh look at the diversity and representation!" as if they're saving the fucking world and/or 2b) turning the character/setting into a clown-world representation of the original, particularly where it makes no sense like in 1800s England.
And to point 1, it's one thing to build a movie around Jackson or Washington or Will Smith or Wesley Snipes or Morgan Freeman or some other well-recognized name. They want the star power, I have no problem with that. But most of this replacement is done with no-names that I've never even heard of and don't give a shit about. I'm about 99% certain that it's done as a cynical way to save money and as a shield from criticism when they make a shit movie/TV show.
Mostly agreed but I would add to my hated things 3) the acceptance of blackwashing in one direction only, proving this is nothing but anti-White racism at work.
Come to think of it... there are no new black actors or actresses that are super popular. You notice that?? All the black actors you named are all over 50.
Asians watches popular black actors like will smith or morgan freeman, but they definitely hate random black actors.
That's probably just due to my personal bias because I haven't really watched or paid attention to anything coming out of Hollywood in a decade. There may well be new black actors (Idris Elba? Sorry, I never understood what was so great about him in Thor. He just stood there in big armor. The new black Wesker?) that are good, but I wouldn't know because I almost exclusively watch movies and TV that predate 2000.
Hell, I couldn't probably name any white actors or musicians that were under 30 either. Are the kids in Superbad still under 30?
Idris Elba was in The Wire and Dark Towers. I like him, but he is considered old too hes like 50+. The black wesker is old guy too, he was also in Oz and john wick.
Those are all old black actors. Basically.. all those actors got their start in the 90s and early 2000s. In 2010-2020.. no one really came up who is GOOD, respected and super famous.

Completely agree. I never cared before either but it gets so tiring how crappy movies get over hyped due to checking the right boxes. Black green lantern was cool since they have the corps. Also Denzel is one of my all time favorites. But I’m with you, they don’t care about source material and they aren’t casting based on good acting
Its more than that. The racial pandering in all ten (yes, i watched it all. I want that part of my life back) episodes is so blatant that is becomes parody.

Didn't realize London was in Nigeria until I watched The Sandman. Honestly surprised they were able to find so many white people they needed to play all the villains.
