A few years ago, something strange happened in Tourette's clinics. The typical patient used to be a young boy aged 5-7, with simple tics such as blinking. But now doctors were seeing something new: teenage girls with acute, explosive tic attacks - EXACTLY the same as famous youtubers… (www.theatlantic.com)

Tiktok only makes these things worse. Just look at the fucking insane cringe compilations. All of them do the thing when they take some shitty bass boosted music and twitch and flop around like they are totally spastic.
Or when they talk about their headmates and such. They all have separate makeup looks and clothes and everything for all of them. Which looks fine in a video where they cut from one to the other. But in real life, imagine that bullshit, washing off your whole face, redoing it from zero, etc. Makeup is also expensive, who the fuck does a complete redo 5 times a day?

They have no identity beyond product consumption.

Fuck TikTok right in the ass. My gym has been overrun with people making TikTok reels. They spend more time doing that shit than they do working out. A lot of the girls will change multiple times during workouts or take videos over and over with their hair in different styles. One guy even cleared out a section of the weight room so he could do a Thanos dissapears scene. And this is a very hardcore gym. I can’t imagine what it’s like at the corporate gyms. I guess people are gonna do whatever the fuck they want to but that shit is so retarded it’s retarded.

We know that gambling is addictive, even though games of chance aren't literally injecting chemicals into your body. The lights, the sounds, and the feelings all work hand in hand to get your brain to develop those chemicals instead.

And, to suit, slot machine manufacturers hire psychologists and use tuned sensory input to keep gamblers gambling. It's no secret.

Whether intentionally or not, systems like TikTok easily replicate this effect to keep people switching back and scrolling all day.

Yet people know better than to let kids into casinos, but they'll stick them with a tablet with TikTok.

That old dopamine hit; whether you get it through a drug, wins, or praise, it's the same "high". And you can lead any creature by the nose if you know how to induce and (ab)use it just right.

The same goes for those mobile games. Or, I guess, any video game. You do something, you get your reward. This makes you happy, and you want to do it again.

See: South Park: Freemium isn't Free American Dad: Salute your Sllort (Klaus' B-story, where he gets addicted to a clicker). Yes, ironic, I know, but they both deal with this shit in their own absurdist ways. They know what they're doing.

Mental Illness is trendy. They desperately want some kind of condition that they can blame all of their problems on.

Modern normies are so sad. Their personalities are based almost entirely on what tv shows they like, what internet influencers they follow, and what mental illness they claim to have. Look at any online profile (dating or otherwise). That's their "about me". Not what hobbies they might enjoy, or what their personality is like. TV shows and mental disease is their personality.

Every day I find myself distanced further and further away from pop culture

Well, I suppose that's a little more entertaining than the old "I like sports and music" thing that was a running joke amongst BBS sysops in the 90s ...

Developing mental illnesses to get attention? Where have I seen that before?

Ah, the old "I have consumption too, achoo!" bullshit. Women/girls/cucks have been pretending to be something trendy for fucking ever.

Has there been some change over the years that people increasingly feel so compelled to "become" someone who they watched/heard/read about? Or could it just be that more people get exposed to things like a funny guy with Tourette's and we're more likely to hear about people "influenced" by them? I understand some mimicry, or changes in vocabulary or the way one speaks. And yes, one can be really inspired to change one's life for some positive reasons. But taking on the full persona of something you found funny on YouTube is just scary. And it's obviously not limited to Tourette's.

Women have been doing it for decades, likely longer. Look up the multiple personality disorder fad of the 70s

No change. Always common. The only thing that changed was with what we idolize.
