Has there been some change over the years that people increasingly feel so compelled to "become" someone who they watched/heard/read about? Or could it just be that more people get exposed to things like a funny guy with Tourette's and we're more likely to hear about people "influenced" by them?
I understand some mimicry, or changes in vocabulary or the way one speaks. And yes, one can be really inspired to change one's life for some positive reasons. But taking on the full persona of something you found funny on YouTube is just scary. And it's obviously not limited to Tourette's.

No change. Always common. The only thing that changed was with what we idolize.
