Gab seems to me to be the lesser of the two evils, sure, but the only good option is to burn all social media to the ground without exception.
While I share the assumption that social media is bad by default, it's impossible to know from the outside how much of social media's evil was deliberately fostered by bad actors (Google/Facebook/Twitter/Reddit).
It's entirely possible that an organic or non-evil leadership would have cultivated different results.

What these shitty competitor sites don't realize is that despite the fact gab neglects security while the owner engages in tradcon grandstanding, they must have free speech policies that are either absolute or simply ban regressive leftists and sex crime law abolitionists in order to compete with gab.
Another requirement for competing with gab and twitter is to allow pornographic material including loli on the site, which something minds does not realize despite hypocritically allowing actual zoo porn and sex attack/trafficker materials on the site.

The problem with Gab is that it's a free-speech Twitter (like Twitter itself used to be), and Twitter, free or not, fundamentally still sucks.
The tweet format has some use cases, I'll concede: weather bureaus issuing tornado warnings, bands announcing tour dates, etc. But in having conversations with other people, it fosters nothing but snappy sounds bites, and is even more dehumanizing than other social media.
So basically the same as Twitter then.

And I'll put it like this: I absolutely understand the appeal of having what amounts to: Corporate and Professional broadcasting only. Like, you genuinely want to have only safe and formal conversations on your social media site so there is a localized place where corporations, charitable organizations, politicians, police departments, and government agencies can make broadcast announcements. That actually makes sense.

That being said, if Gettr wants to be a somewhat relevant LinkedIn style social media site, then that's fine. But let's be clear that we're not operating for the purposes of free speech, and let's not pretend that Amazon Web Services isn't planning on slitting your throat since that's exactly what they did to Parler.
Hell, I'm happy to have all the major corporate brands remove themselves to a single corporate media only social media site, so we get less shills and advertising.

I don't think it's entirely fair to directly compare TI1 to LW1 and LW2 (or any of the other misandrists that have spoken in front of the UN, if I've misidentified this reference), especially when you added the disclaimer for the other example, if only because TI1 doesn't appear to have misrepresented his beliefs at any time (he gains no social, political, or monetary benefits from doing so.), and his stated beliefs are probably closer to reality than those of ZQ and AS.
You aren't wrong. Most of these free speech alternatives have a very specific definition of what qualifies you as "one of us" and will absolutely violate those who fail their litmus test.
Most of the time, most people will be fine. But most of the time, most people are fine on the broader fields too.
More simply stated: Just as authoritarian and ant-free-speech as the left, just a different set of core values.
I think they are less by degrees at the moment, but they have already shown themselves willing to compromise on it.
And that's always the first step to right where we are now all over again.
