Study finds "long COVID" is largely psychosomatic and often completely unrelated to COVID infection (jamanetwork.com)

the belief in having had COVID-19 infection was associated with 15 of 18 categories of persistent symptoms

Long COVID seems to be mostly based on self-reporting by people who think they might have it. The study found no correlation with an actual infection and most symptoms.

Many of the people who reported having long COVID weren't even infected. Only half of the people who reported having had COVID actually had anti bodies.

a positive serology test result remained positively associated only with anosmia

This seems to be the only long-term symptom they could directly tie to an actual infection.

That’s exactly how it was for me when I had Covid.

I remembered reading articles about “healthy 20-somethings” mysteriously collapsing from stokes and heart attacks months after recovering from covid. While I didn’t really believe them, it was very hard to completely discard them. That anxiety made me experience “real” symptoms even when I knew it was all in my head.

Fuck I hate being a hypochondriac, lol.

Absolutely. The older I get, the more I am able to recognize it and handle it. The best way to tell it’s just anxiety is if your “symptoms” vanish while you’re preoccupied.

At work: Perfectly fine all day long. Lying down to sleep: “Am I having a heart attack right now?”

Americans are trained to be hypochondriacal, and to fear everything in their lives, and that the govt womb is their only salvation.

We have "long Covid sanatoriums" and what not in Poland.

How is Poland, in all this (specifically on Coof, not other things…)??

Genuinely thinking about moving, if this keeps up. Seriously.

I know that may sound weird, but, uhh, let’s just say that even if “grass greener” applies… I still look at you guys with envy, from what I see and hear, atm…

Side note: I just watched a video (boredom) made earlier this year, where a Polish-American girl goes and interviews a bunch of Polish women (in Polish) of various ages about their attitudes towards… Basically dating. And foreigners, specifically.

It’s incredibly wholesome. More than I expected. So your country has that going for it, too, I guess!

So…. From that, it sounds like you guys are now slightly “freer” than parts of Aus (arguably not my state, but give it a month…).

Interesting. Not sure how that might make you feel, but enjoy that fact, at least, lol!

Australia is going to hell at high(er) speed, sadly… 😑

Ah, this is interesting and revealing, thanks!!

I’ll have a read, but I’m also interested in your personal views, if you feel like sharing, now or in future.

Cheers!

As others have pointed out, this isn’t an American, or even an Anglosphere, phenomenon…

It’s a Western Civilization-in-decline phenom, I’m afraid… 😣

I'd really love to be in charge of some weird mental testing experiment for this type stuff. Give like 1,000 random people an intentionally false positive test result and then monitor them to see how many of them make up symptoms to garner sympathy or end up with fake "long Covid."

I assumed "long COVID" was mostly vaccine effects / immune system dysfunction.

Quelle surprise… 😲

And yet Australia is LITERALLY using these people, and this shit, to push mask mandates and mandatory boosters…

Fuck “factuality”. Fuck “logic”. We have feelings and fear… 🤦🏻‍♂️😑🔫

What pisses me off most about the situation here is how the pollies will get up in front of the press, spout bullshit about 'le science' and 'studies' and 'evidence' showing the jab, masks, testing, etc. work, and no-one will call them on it. No-one with direct access to these fuckers will stand up and say 'can you show us this evidence?'

All it takes to end this thing is for enough people to simply start asking the right questions.

I miss the days when Peta Credlin was throwing spanners in the works at Daddy Dan's press conferences.

Oh, another Aussie!

Yeah, that was cool. Her and (occasionally) Baxendale. But see, they had to get rid of both of them. They were asking too many “tough questions” after all…

Our “dear leaders” only want Dorothy Dixers. Not people who actually ask questions. Lol, what do you think this is, a representative democracy?? 🙄 /s

Not-so-secretly hoping for Craig Kelly as next PM. He's pissing off all the right people, so at the very least it'll be amusing.

its like all the alleged symptoms of "long covid" are almost direct parallels with post-viral fatigue syndrome

Is this peer reviewed at all? Asking because you just know yahoos are going to bring it up to discredit this

Hilariously enough, all the people who believe the "vaccines" work don't even have any independent peer reviewed studies to show that people aren't just suffering from the placebo effect. Even people here who champion the clot shots have no data that shows they do anything other than spin the chamber for Russian Roulette, yet -- like you say -- people are quick to discredit anything that pokes holes in the narratives.

It's amazing how backwards people have become: asking for proof to disprove falsehoods, yet believing falsehoods without requiring any proof whatsoever.

Interesting. "Long COVID" was just post viral syndrome which is caused by any viral infection.

The idea of "long COVID" only exists because stupid/malicious researchers found a resurgence of respiratory problems in one of the world's most polluted cities and attributed that to COVID instead of to China being a dump.

Turns out "long covid" is treated effectively like nearly all other mild or moderate anxiety and depressive disorders : go out every day to exercise at least 30 minutes.

Because it's a stupid rebranding of anxiety and depressive disorders birthed from the WuFlu mass hysteria.

The earliest clue it was a psychosomatic problem was the high ratio of people claiming to have it without even a positive WuFlu test, yet still included in "studies" on "long covid".

Then the fact Swedish people, largely free of the mass hysteria and mental-crushing lockdowns, were dramatically less likely to report "long covid" than people from other countries where the government and media were pumping anxiety-inducing propaganda, and enforcing depression-inducing isolation.

Dr. Drew said repeatedly he had/has long covid. Over time I've become less interested in what he (and by extension Adam Carolla) have to say on their podcast. It basically boils down to Dr. Drew telling people that yes everything they are concerned about Covid is correct and everything shit that is going on is shit but you should have it anyway as it'll give you the best protection. Eg someone who's already infected should get a booster because that's the absolute best protection.
