Nothing to do with anonymity. Blue checks are the worst. Anons will call you dirty names and throw out "hate speech" that they would get fired or even arrested for because it goes against accepted norms and dogma, but Cathedral-Approved Hate is much more insidious and damaging to society.
Well, he's right in that anonymous speech is the refuge of scoundrels and fiends - but wrong in implying that's a bad thing. Anybody speaking truths that can't be said is a scoundrel and fiend to those who would rather pretend and make-believe.
You look at 4chan and your eyeballs will fall out, but they've perhaps done more investigative journalism in the short time they've existed than the whole of the journalism profession across all time.
He is. Like Ben Shapiro, people think he's smart mostly because he's articulate and and speaks quickly. But when you consider what he says much of it is pretty dumb shit...at best...half truths.
I don't think he's talking about people like you and me, I think he's pointing out a lot of leftists say some egregious dumbass shit and then run away and delete their comments when challenged.
The lack of anonymity is much worse. You can't say and stand behind something when pretty much any sentence is guaranteed to piss someone off. The internet worked a lot better when everyone was anonymous and people learned to ignore others who they didn't like.
An important lesson to actually listen to people not just look at their caricatures.
I hadn't heard of Cruz except the picture painted by NPR... another idiot republican. Then I heard him speak for half an hour to a farmer after an event with C-SPAN still on until the room cleared, explaining that he wanted the guy's vote but he wouldn't support ethanol subsidies since they are retarded -- meticulously laying out all the reasons why directly one on one to this guy who didn't want to hear that. After that when I heard him slighted in the media it didn't lower my opinion of him, it lowered my opinion of that media.
Same thing with Bannon, that guy's like a modern founding father but you wouldn't know it if you didn't watch some of his long-form speeches and appearances.
And he'll give that 2 hour lecture to an audience who were required to show proof of vaccination to step foot in the door, and give the excuse of "well that's the law, and we can't change it"
Far cry from "if they fine me for using the 'wrong' pronoun I won't pay it, and if they arrest me for not paying the fine I'll go on a hunger strike" 2017-era Peterson.
It's strange: some people get "fuck you" money and actually use it to say "fuck you". Bill Watterson, J.K Rowling, and Notch come to mind. Others (probably most) don't. Not sure if it's a temperament thing, whether you're primarily known through your work versus your persona, or what it is.
I disagree with Dr Peterson on this (can’t be right all of the time) there is plenty of reasons to wish to be anonymous. Example Andy Ngo uses his real name and gets hunted and attacked by far left losers and all he does is shows what they are doing in public. If you are attacked for just showing an event as it happens that’s reason enough to wish to stay anonymous. And the most vicious individuals on Twitter use their real name and photo. Or look at authors who use a pen name over their real names on books they right. Some could be silly like JK Rowling thinking boys would not want to read a book if they thought it was written by a woman. Or you just don’t want the celebrity status once something you said gets popular. So no Dr Peterson, the ability to stay anonymous online is a safety feature not a shield to be awful, because again there are plenty of awful people on Twitter who use their real name.
I love posting these (and seeing others post these) because every time there's a boatload of people in the comments who say "I like him, but he's wrong here".
What we are seeing here is the first instances of the fracture between centrist liberals like Peterson and the right. It was always going to happen that the right would go where these centrist liberals couldn't follow. It had happened already on fringe topics like race, but now we have a fracture that has pretty broad support among the right: government WuFlu policies.
When that fracture happens there will be many (former) supporters saddened and disappointed that "the student has outdone the master".
It's possible to appreciate the things someone has done while realizing you have gone beyond them to places where they are not willing to tread. That doesn't negate what they have done in the past, but it does mean you cease treating them as a guide in areas where they are not willing to go. This is one of those areas, as is government WuFlu policies and their opposition.
I always defend him because what he's saying is broadly correct.
White, cis, hetero, males are not inherently oppressive and are required for society to function; true.
Marxism is a destructive, failed ideology that we should treat the same as nazism; true.
People need to step up and get their shit together; true.
Granted he's a normie, and firmly entrenched with the global establishment, but it seems he's foolish enough to speak the truth, even when he isn't supposed to, and that's valuable.
And to this point, yeah, I get that he's speaking from his own ivory tower but he's still right. If people spoke up in their own voice, including at work, in public, etc, then we never would have sunk so low.
Look at all the vax mandates that have collapsed due to people saying they won't follow them. They're not hiding behind a screen name, bitching online. And yeah, you'll probably get hounded by blue-hairs, but would you rather go down fighting those POSs or would you rather die of the clot shot or in some damn camp?
marxism is similarly irrelevant, especially under liberal capitalism
Marxist quasi-capitalism in China dominates the entire world already.
Here locally we're bracing for a full scale attack of the very non-liberal pseudo-capitalist state with Marxist origins (proud legal successor to the USSR, ruled by the ex-KGB) on the neighbour country, and they hold the EU hostage with energy and increasingly other means.
That's not how the system works. You're falling for the illusion of "democracy."
Enforcement of any policy has a cost to the system associated with it. Make it too costly and it either ceases to exert that effort altogether or it reaches some equilibrium where there is partial enforcement of the policy at a cost acceptable to the system.
The goal is to make a policy too expensive for the system enforce, or too burdensome to the people enforcing the policy that they don't even bother even though the policy technically exists.
I never know what to think of this dude. He often crosses the powers that be for speaking the truth and that's valuable, but every so often he says dumb shit like this. He also shit on MGTOW, although he did partially walk back and apologize on that.
I thought he was slowly coming back around after his year in the wilderness, Russian benzo coma odyssey.
But his speaking/book tour succumbing to vaccine passports proved in the end that underneath all his antiauthoritarian bluster, at his core he's still an establishment shill.
Not everyone has an audience that'll support them, even when they develop a drug habit. Some of us have real jobs. Until I can safely say racial slurs without fear of losing my livelihood, I will remain anonymous.

I trust anime avatars (except for picrews) more than people who self facedox now.
Not all of us have tenure you fuckwit.
I swear this guy is the smartest retard.
He is. Like Ben Shapiro, people think he's smart mostly because he's articulate and and speaks quickly. But when you consider what he says much of it is pretty dumb shit...at best...half truths.
Yep.
I don't think he's talking about people like you and me, I think he's pointing out a lot of leftists say some egregious dumbass shit and then run away and delete their comments when challenged.
JBP, it's fine for you, you have a large fanbase who can bail you out.
Most of us don't, so we can't afford to get exposed for wrongthink by retards with a Future is Female hashtag in their name.
The lack of anonymity is much worse. You can't say and stand behind something when pretty much any sentence is guaranteed to piss someone off. The internet worked a lot better when everyone was anonymous and people learned to ignore others who they didn't like.
I miss the old internet often.
The internet before smartphones was divine.
Before AOL really
Just wait till they take away his blue checkmark for wrongthink. Then he will be just another claimant to be Jordan Peterson.
Anyway he should move to Facebook.
Facebook?!
Real names.
How dare you not subject yourself to leftist anarcho tyranny
I think twitter just makes you retarded.
If you listen to him lecture for 2 hours, what he's saying makes tons of sense.
If you follow him on twitter he sounds like Ted Cruz.
An important lesson to actually listen to people not just look at their caricatures.
I hadn't heard of Cruz except the picture painted by NPR... another idiot republican. The 2017 version of Peterson hadn't made bank yet.
Ironically, somehow making "fuck you" money has made him even less able/willing to speak truth to power.

Jordan Peterson is the most stupid smart person in world history.
Apex Midwit
“Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.”
A lot of the people making a stink are verified, IE not anonymous.

Anyone who thinks it's ok to go online and not be anonymous has no business being on the internet. All the fucking normies need to go back.
I love posting these (and seeing others post these) because every time there's a boatload of people in the comments who say "I like him, but he's wrong here".

People are complicated and can be right about one thing and wtong about another.
I still like his biblical lectures and his podcast and his principles generally even if I disagree with him on specific issues.

We need a new guide.

Pseudo capitalist because it's a cleptocracy, the rule of Chekist oligarchs, their Jewish friends, and an occasional Islamic warlord. All gangsters.

Jordan feeding the trolls.
For such a bright guy, he's not very bright sometimes.
I thought he was slowly coming back around after his year in the wilderness, Russian benzo coma odyssey.

God forbid an idea stands on its own instead of catering to midwits that need everything spoon-fed by "experts."
