The prequel trilogy was garbage - because the direction, dialogue, and performances were terrible - but I give Lucas credit for the overarching story of a seemingly decent "United Nations" turning corrupt and evil. You'd never see the current stewards of the franchise boldly subverting the Democratic space government of Star Wars.
And these are the people who gleefully subverted literally everything else, including beloved characters. But they just couldn't permit a story wherein big government becomes the villain again. Nope, it's gotta be inexplicably powerful space Nazis, logic and continuity be damned.
So the stereotypical Roswell aliens were time-travelling descendants of a genetically engineered leftists that engage in anal probing cows to stop their sterility.
