Calling this an experiment is like implanting someone with an unnecessary medical device, then removing it and saying "I'm doing an experiment to see if humans can live without this device".
Going back to the way things already were is not an experiment.
Leftists really love to 'own' the marketable side of every argument, but every now and again they get so deep up their own buttholes they forget themselves and honestly spout something like this.
The amazing thing is that the article essentially proves the Republicans right. All the quoted gibs recipients basically say that they want government money over working at a job.
I mean, why wouldn't they? $300 a week is literally what you earn at minimum wage. Yeah, you can work harder and earn more, but if you're low skill, you might make what, $10/hr? So basically you work 40 hours a week to make an extra $100?
Fuck that, I'd sit on the couch too. Which is what all these governors (and anyone with a brain) has been saying for ages.
And it's fucking obvious, too. Just drive around. Every single low wage, low skill job opening is empty. All of them.
I just stopped to get some fast food on the way home from a weekend trip yesterday and it took 20 minutes at Taco Hell to get a half dozen burritos for my family. The cashier apologized for the wait and told me it was because they had an influx of brand new employees now that the unemployment ended.
In other words, economics didn't magically change just because there was a virus, just like we all said it hadn't, and socialism still fucking sucks.
Remember, that $300 bucks is on top of your normal unemployment "benefits", and even if you're in the "no tax" tax bracket, there's still federal/state withholding and the various gibs taxes, eg. Social Security. Then you've got costs for insurance and deductions for the 401k.
Had the same thing happen to me at Taco Bell a couple weeks ago. They had to bring out the food after a long wait and apologized (but because they were still short-staffed) and offered a coupon for a free taco. What a class act. That's the first fast food establishment that I've seen that has stepped up and apologized and offered a coupon in the past year and it wasn't even that long of a wait compared to other experiences I've had. For me, that earns them a Taco Bell instead of a Taco Hell. It's the fucking little things like that that make a difference. The brown, meat-flavored oatmeal in my burritos was even still warm by the time I got home.
It was actually Classical Air playing on NPR that got me into classical music when I was young. Mother dearest has basically never stopped listening to that station for the last 40 or so years so I had a lot of exposure to it while growing up, but eventually it disappeared off their broadcasting in my area, and I had to find it online after that. That must have been in the AOL days. Now it's a split between NPR and the BBC stuff.
There is not a single decent rock station broadcasting today. You used to get lucky with some college radio stations but they have a limited range and today they mostly suck.
But if you are ok with listening to canned recordings, about 50 songs of classic rock, 50 alt rock, a fuck ton of commercials, and maybe 100 of whatever passes as rock these days, on repeat, day after day, sure, go ahead and lock that station down.
Classical radio, on the other hand, offers up some of the wildest shit. Seriously, I constantly hear stuff from people I've never even heard of. Not all of it is good but it is worth checking out.
Normally, I wouldn't reply to you any more. But you called me a zoomer. A fucking zoomer. I can't let that go. Take a look through my post history, check this out.
You fantastically retarded philistine. There is so much out there and you are just going to mow your lawn listening to Guns N' Roses.
Ib4: Yes I am seething, yes I will cope, I'll probably even have sex today. Being called a zoomer is the single insult I wont take.
Yeah, reading their example people, it's pretty clear to me they are afraid and/or lazy. A little of both really.
Jones is wary of going back to Head Start and possibly catching the coronavirus and passing it on to her children.
Particularly this. I know a nutcase like this. The whole time afraid their kid would catch it of all things. Damn my leftist nut brother wasn't even stupid enough to worry about if his kid got it or not. His kid did too, he was sick for about 15 minutes until being distracted by something else.
Yeah being that most of the internet whining I've seen is either teachers or lifetime minimum wagers that's probably quite true. Two very lazy groups that think they work a lot harder than they actually do.
I remember when I found a study that showed women self report that they feel like they work harder for the same grades as men. One of my classmates said they did indeed work harder for the same grade. I then used this to humiliate the student because well... I’m an asshole. If someone has to work harder for the same grade it means that they are less capable than their male counterparts. The student cried it was because men were favored, which prompted me to ask our female professor if she was misogynistic. This of course led to massive backpedaling on the students part, and because I’m an asshole I pushed harder. Which professors do you believe are misogynistic? If it is a problem of favoritism shouldn’t we identify the professors who are causing you this systemic injustice? I was then chastised by our teacher because feelings, but I made my point.
I'm sure that's a nail right on the head. So many people I know that seem to think I'm totally loaded because of some of the things I buy and things I do. It doesn't matter I make the same (or in many cases less) than them.
Yeah, that iPhone Z or whatever the hell they have, my phone was $150. Daily fancy coffee, I'll pass. A few hundred a week on alcohol at some club, no thanks. Food delivery, no. Cable TV, no. Add all that up and it's a ton of money. I'm not saying I'm one of those super frugal never spend a dime on fun stuff ever people either, I spend a ton of money on frivolous things. It's just for whatever reason mine are considered luxury items they could never afford, and their cigarettes and alcohol are bare necessities.
Yeah, people don't really understand how to properly live poor. You'll be fine if you know how to do it.
One reason that I lived out of my car was because a decent car is a way better use of your money than a shitty apartment or house without a car.
I remember reading stories on Reddit of people who were well and truly homeless, and that was a thing that stuck out to them (and validated my opinion). They'd lose the car, be trapped in a specific geographic area, still couldn't find work, and then would be left living out on the street. From that point on, it would be very hard to get back to a starting positions, sometimes 2-3 years.
However, if you sold the house or canceled the apartment and lived out of your car, you're way better off: you can travel to jobs, you can still see friends, you can stay out of the weather, and you can save enough money to get back on your feet.
Unemployed workers in Mississippi will be among the first to lose benefits — later this week. That's bad news for people like Nicole Jones. The Jackson, Miss., resident lost her job at a Head Start center when the pandemic struck last year. Since then, the extra $300 payments have helped keep her family afloat. "I have a mortgage. I have a car note. I have light bill, gas bill, water bill, internet bill," Jones says. "I think it's really unfair that they are taking that away from households that are not able to get back to work right now." Jones is wary of going back to Head Start and possibly catching the coronavirus and passing it on to her children. Mississippi has the nation's lowest COVID-19 vaccination rate. "They're not looking at the fact that a lot of people are not able to go back to work because of health issues," Jones says.

I'm from the south and I've heard it. I don't say it and it's not common but there are people who talk like that. But I 100% agree the story is probably mostly fake or cherry picked with examples to exploit people's empathy and emotions. Kind of like how late shows used to (maybe they still do) go out and interview people on the street and ask them questions like "how many states are in the US?" or "who is the current president?" and I'm betting the overwhelmingly majority know the right answers but they only showcase the funny retards who give stupid answers. Right now we see that in this article, they are arguing using extreme examples. I think things really do suck out there, but at the end of the day someone has to foot the bill and if a lot of people are bleeding the system dry then who is going to pay for all these handouts? I got my own car note to worry about for fuck's sake. ?
People who can work but chose not to because they are making bank off of benefits are living off of those of us who DO work. I'm sure they all have excuses, but the fucking fact remains, there are plenty of jobs out there. Are they shitty jobs? Yeah definitely. But those deadbeats should have some dignity and stop expecting me to pay their rent. My job isn't the best and I'm barely scraping by as it is but I still do it. It's an investment in my future. I knew several people last year who were making more money than me by sitting on their ass. But the jig is up now, things are opening back up. Can't say "oh but muh corona and muh no jobs and muh lockdowns" anymore. That gap on their resume is only getting bigger. And I'll admit I have more respect for those leeching deadbeat parasites exploiting the system than I do for the pieces of shit like the yellow journalist who shat out that article.
Aleetha Dixon, who lost her job working at trade shows last year and is caring for a disabled son, said the problem is not that the benefits are too high, but that competing wages are too low.
Yeah, because everyone on the teat is caring for a disabled child that they have to beg people to watch while they don their hazmat suit and speed from business to business trying to find a job. When there are more people willing to work and pay into the system and support it, then we can have UBI and properly care for people and provide a social safety net. Someone has to throw money into the pot before greedy hands can reach into it and help themselves. And I don't give a fuck if they are a democrat or a republican. Why are you making that distinction mr shitty NPR hack?
Wage slaves are Corporatists (Fabian Socialist) construction built to maintain corporate plantations by creating a massive underclass of unemployed or under-employed people to keep the largest corporations in power with an extremely high minimum wage and strict regulations that keep small business from forming and competing against the cartel. That is the heart of the Democratic Plantation.
However, the secondary aspect of this plantation includes that very underclass that they support with a massive welfare state. That welfare state kills ambition and innovation, and keeps people dependent on regularly getting paychecks without contributing one positive thing to society. As people stick to welfare, they work less and even become unemployable for the price of labor that minimum wage is now demanding.
The dependency slaves are the underclass that supports the wage slaves of the Democratic plantation.
There's something to be said about how a lot of "work" these days is just makebusy nonsense and wasted productivity for social obligations, but it's not like the article cares about efficient businesses and economy.
These motherfuckers. This is an experiment? But "HEY LET'S SHUT THE ENTIRE ECONOMY DOWN BECAUSE OF A RESPIRATORY INFECTION" wasn't? Fucking assholes.
And it's not true. Many states are already back to work - business as usual.
Well other than the usual suspects; California and a handful of other blue states.
Gotta profit off their self-imposed misery.

This entire situation just makes me fume.
And the ones that were worth half a damn found employment in essential fields like grocery stores that aren’t shutdown on a whim.

I just tuned in, online, which isn't an option in many cars or radios, and they are playing Metallica. Not a pop track, so good on them but still.

Go get a fucking job you goddamn leech.
This is Mississippi, right? Where you get insanely high purchasing power compared to other blue hellholes? And where that $15 "muh minimum wage" would benefit you the most?
Holy fuck, appreciate your situation.

Democrats once again: "Stop trying to take our slaves away!"
How is that democrats exactly?
It's the repubs here who seem to be immensely upset at extended benefits taking away their wage slaves.
