Today we will discuss which games should win our award for GAME OF THE YEAR.
Please consider what you would like to argue should be the winning item for each of the passing categories.
Consider who you would like to nominate as your electors. You may choose 3 electors to cast votes for you on your behalf. Persuade them as necessary. You may choose yourself once. The top 12 most nominated electors will assemble as our electoral tribunal, and will vote on the final categories. Feel free to message me directly with your nomination, or comment your nominations publicly. The electors are allowed to vote their own conscience.
This will be your last chance to nominate electors. Look over the previous discussions to see who you agree with and think would vote the way you want.

If you are an elector, let me know on what platforms we can discuss our nominations. I have Discord, .win, Saidit, Poal, and Reddit. Alternatively we could use u/acp_k2win 's Ruqqus I think.
Factorio is the only possible choice for game of the year. It is self published, it isn't Chinese spyware, and it has no bugs. Seriously, they hunted down every bug that was not caused by mods, and most of the ones cause by modding too.
I nominate TentElephant, lbgtqwtfbbq, and almond_activator for electors.
And as always, Sino Delenda Est

Have any of us played many new games? Once I quit playing much multiplayer, I quit buying games near launch for the most part. Seems dumb to spend $60 when I won't play it right off anyway and it will be $20 later.
I looked back at everything that's released this year (excluding remasters) and the only thing I've played enough to feel like having an opinion on is Journey to the Savage Planet. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't GOTY quality either. I suppose Tetris Effect: Connected as well (it's great btw, but it's Tetris, so been around a while)
Based on videos and what is on my want list, I'd probably second a nomination for Hades. My opinion I'd just like the main award to go to something that isn't a big AAA title but plays like one. Based on comments I've seen that seems to be the case. I may even pick it up, particularly if it ever comes to GOG. I just can't be in favor of awarding to Sony. PS4 exclusive, maybe....but Sony owned after the mess of a year they've had sticking their nose in politics--no thanks.
Several people have, from what I can see.
Do you want to post any videos for those, including Hades?
Sure, I found this guy via this site and generally like his reviews and he tends to also prefer old school FPS and hate 2D platformers and Souls games. So, basically me. I hate posting YouTube links but everyone is smart enough here to know what they are clicking.
Hades: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_D6otdT5EA
Only other games I really think about for my personal opinion of GOTY would be Doom Eternal (here's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAXveoa5k1Y) and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Yakuza solely based on me having played through a few of the games and the things I've read it didn't go woke. Ghosts of Tsushima maybe, but I just can't get around awarding a company a GOTY on this site that also is up for their "Cities can rebuild" comments.
Nominating a Soyny exclusive for game of the year seems odd, given they're probably going to win virtue signal of the year too.
I had doubts too, but it's like someone played Last of Us 2, saw how cucked and shitty it was, then built a time machine to go back and release Ghost of Tsushima 3 months later to save the console. It really does deserve it.
I just find it ironic that the best game of the year is one we can't play unless we're hypocrites that didn't boycott Soyny.
The PS4 is over 7 years old. Most people who own one bought it long before Sony triple cucked down.
But if you buy it, you're still giving Soyny money.
If my memory serves right, you were a Fortnite/Epic guy so I feel like that's a glass house situation.
If wrong, no amount of boycotting will add up to make a difference on a "too big to fail" company like Sony. We will never rally enough people to make that dent. The best option is to support the solid choices without any socjus in it and attempt to tank any games that are soyed.
That's my opinion though, I respect those who go all in though I disagree with the logic.
I don't think there's a PC version.
Recorded.
I would nominate Yakuza Like a Dragon as my GOTY.
It was the most fun game I played this year.
Would recommend it to anyone who likes RPGs, turn based combat, a good story or is already a fan of the Yakuza series.
In terms of electors, I will go with TheImpossible1, Adamrises and Gizortnik.
Would you like to post some videos for Yakuza to show why it's great?
I've added your electors to my list.
Here are some videos from Razorfist to showcase Yakuza Like a Dragon.

Thank you
Going to go ahead and nominate Hades for GOTY, as promised before.
Would you like to post some videos or an explanation as to why it's so good?
Well, it pulled off a story-heavy roguelite (!!) that tells an epic tale from the depths of Hades to the heights of Olympus. You never mind dying (!!) because you'll be unlocking new conversations and powerups at your house between runs. Like all roguelikes, it's designed to be played over and over again, so the replayability is incredible. And the combat is silky smooth and just plain fun, with plenty of variety between different weapons and powerups that you acquire.
Here is some video from early in the game.
It also has a fantastic soundtrack, one of the best I've ever heard in a video game. It's absolutely fantastic, and it deserves the praise it's getting.
Correct.
I'll give my vote to Ghost of Tsushima. Just because the story was an incredible journey that actually engaged me deeply, something that games are rare to do these days.
And scarcely without sacrificing the gameplay, which it was also incredibly fun in. Minor gripes with the open world aside.
Double also, they tacked on a multiplayer mode months later that everyone expected to be a shitty tacked on thing but is actually quite a fun coop romp.
Can you post some videos of it for the electors to consider?

The Elector nominations so far are:
That gives us 14 out of 12. I'm prepared to drop in or out depending on if people can make it. We can also go to just 4 (everyone who has >1 nomination), which would still maintain the same ratio if we can't agree upon 12 people. If you are an elector, let me know on what platforms we can discuss our nominations. I have Discord, .win, Saidit, Poal, and Reddit. Alternatively we could use u/acp_k2win 's Ruqqus I think.
I can do whatever platform.
.Win would be the best platform for me.
I have Saidit as well.
I also do have Reddit and Discord but in the spirit of working together to create new institutions, I think it might be best to not use them whenever possible.
I appreciate the nod, but I'd like to bow out. I haven't played anything released this year I care to nominate.
Okay.
What's the point of electors with such a small userbase? Representation isn't really necessary until it becomes impractical for individual voters to have their say, and it just encourages cliquism.
We should have a supreme decider, who all are free to petition with their points. This person should not be an idiot, so the masses should have little say in their appointment. I suggest electors.
My logic is it creates a core of people who are invested specifically in the community, and who have built enough social capital among the community to be trusted.
These individuals can adequately speak for the community, and also represent different sects and factions of the communities at different times. These electors also prevent brigading or vote manipulation, and it identifies someone who has accountability for the decision.
I feel that it doesn't encourage cliquism, it contains it. What I have seen from moderating KiA is that different posts attract different people, and effectively different factions in every post. This is to be expected as order emerges form chaos. Many individuals come together with shared interests and develop a sub-group anyway. The electors can reflect these sub-groups, and multiple choices for electors around individuals to diversify their interests and preferences into multiple electors, rather than hoping one and only one makes the one right choice as their sole avatar.
Just a check it seems you missed u/Chem self nomination.
I must have. I don't have it recorded anywhere.
That's two for ".win only" which kinda narrows it down.
Okay.
HADES, as other have mentioned.
I love the art style, like I did with the studio's previous works. From what I've seen on Twitter... so far they are not cunts.
Also, any form of camera bobbing can make me super sick, so the style of this one suits me. It's stress relieving too to just fuck shit up.
Recorded.
HADES is the best game and I nominate it for everything good.
It should win Best Hack n Slash as well as Best Music, too.
Yes I nominate Hades for those too.
Can you provide some videos for us so the electors can look at it?
Can you make an argument about why it deserves GOTY?
I finally started playing Doom Eternal so I thought I'd add some comments on it. Personally I'd put it up for best shooter but I wouldn't be bothered by a GOTY.
So far I've super enjoyed it. I've played about 3 hours into the campaign. I'm playing on an Xbox One X. Graphics are excellent and it runs really well. I'm sure it runs fine on other things as well as it just seems well polished in that respect. It's been all-around fun with very little tedium and no politics. If you played 2016 Doom then you get the basic premise of the gameplay.
Something I'd forgotten about but I love that I can push myself to the higher difficulty levels and feel like I'm being offered a fun challenge. FPS games have always been my favorite, but I've gotten less tolerant of difficulty in them anymore. Mainly because they've turned into one or both of hide behind a wall, pop out for every single enemy to shoot you before you can respond, and pick them off one by one. Move generally only when the truckload of grenades force you to. Not in this game. Cover is nearly worthless. I wouldn't even say it has great AI, but I've always thought enemy ability and level design to top AI anyway. In short, it's offering me a challenge but not frustration. For me, that's super rare.
Other cool things, menus offer a ton of options to customize things to play the way you'd like and they are easy to move around in. I prefer to turn off some of the UI in games myself, so they don't become a follow the big white dot and encourage me to look around. All those options are totally there. They managed to cut way back on the loading screens that Doom 2016 had and that's a huge bonus too. I always like weapon modding systems and it's limited for me so far, but seems to present itself as being something that can really grow.
It doesn't appear there's a pay to win type setup but there are a lot of little things to earn to use in multiplayer. I'm not sure the difficulty of obtaining these as I probably won't do multiplayer. I'm too old and garbage to keep up with the world of streamer hackers anymore. I don't think you can buy anything. The only thing it's tried to sell me is the DLC expansion, which I will eventually get as it appears to be a legit expansion and not some cosmetic BS.
Now, things I don't like. I don't need the Tomb Raider style platforming, just remove it. I'm fine jumping around and stuff, but swinging on bars and climbing walls can stay in adventure games. So far I've been running out of ammo too often even though I don't feel like I'm wasting shots. This is Doom and I prefer to not have to force myself to be careful and make sure every single bullet is maximized. I can't tell if they are just trying to push me to the chainsaw for ammo mechanic early on or if it will stay that way. I've gotten into a couple scenarios where I had larger monsters to deal with and nothing to shoot at them. I also hope there are some secret power-ups or something. I like trudging around for secrets but so far it's collectibles. Throw me a supercharge or a blue armor in a secret once and a while for my trouble.
Would you like to nominate it?
I think I already did for best shooter and that can stay.
I might have put up for GOTY, but as I've continued to play it the things I don't like have gotten much more emphasized to the point that they are taking fun away. It's still a fine game for people that want that type of gameplay, but for a super long time fan of Doom I'm getting disappointed and glad I didn't buy it at launch.
So, I'll just leave all these comments here in case the electors would like to read my opinions.
the ruqqus mobile app seems decent for what that's worth
We may need it if we can't fully figure out how to get everyone on the same page.
Burn my remaining nom noms on Steampunk_Moustache and onetruephilosoraptor 4.
Neither sound particularly delicious, though.
My vote for best new strategy game release 2020 would go hands down to Shadow Empire (Matrix Games release).
Unfortunately, that Category didn't make it through our first round. Would you like to nominate it for GOTY?
Would you like to make an argument why or provide some videos?
Sure put that as my nomination for GOTY. Tho it being niche game (hc strategy) it really should not be on the votes :-D
Good vidyas to showcase the game by couple youtubers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTCBG5U2XVc SHADOW EMPIRE live with DasTactic ~ Frozen World continued

Give me u/AntonioOfVenice and u/DominitiusOfMassilia for the other two nominations.

Nominating a game of the year for this year is like sifting through raw sewage for diamonds. A horrid proposition and an ultimately fruitless endeavor.
I'll go with whatever the community wants, because my personal nomination is nothing. Games have been that bad this year that the award should be empty chaired.
Not really, and I played most of the "big" releases that I could. Everyone seems to like Ghost of Tsushima, but I don't own a PS4 so I couldn't tell you.
Cold War was disappointing. I don't know why exactly, but it just felt really lethargic and slow paced, even in multi-player. I'm glad I didn't pay for it, but I gave it back to the person who gifted it to me a couple of days ago.
Dirt 5 was okay, but I was expecting a lot more for a next-gen release title. The career mode is the most disappointing shit in a racing game in over a decade, you just go randomly from event to event, no real sense of progression. The whole "create your own events" thing is a good idea, but I'm not creative enough to be able to make anything that good.
F1 2020 was good, at least to me. I liked making my own team and kicking Hamilton's ass. Still, nominating a game where one of the biggest additions was a rip off of Fortnite's Battle Pass system seems incredibly off.
I played the Avengers game when the beta came out, made a post about it. TL;DR : It was repetitive shovelware trying to be carried by the license.
I didn't play any of Ubisoft or EA's games, except for the Hot Pursuit remaster. Got it used just to have it and not support EA. Lots of good memories playing the original. Other than that, I boycotted everything these two companies offered.
I didn't play any PC exclusives, because I didn't have the device to run them.
I'm not going to nominate either of Epic's "new" games (read as : redone versions of their two games they already make bucketloads off, for next gen) because everyone here hates Epic for their Chinese ties...also, they aren't actually new. Epic can say they're new, but they're at least 3 years old now.
Finally, Cyberpunk 2077 was such obvious garbage that I didn't buy in and I'm sure nobody in the history of the world could have expected it to be nominated.
We can certainly discuss dropping categories, there's a recommendation for dropping categories for awards under 4 nominations, though I think we should consider that as just a separate option to vote "drop" or "abstain" since we could argue that the reason there weren't many nominations in that category is because everyone agreed on what should win.
I'm not suggesting dropping the category, I'll vote with what the community wants.
I just feel personally that nothing I had played or seen gameplay of this year was worth nominating.
That's fine. The electors job is mostly for election integrity, more than your actual experiance.
