My first thought was money laundering, but the production values and actors involved are too legitimate for that. I've seen a few films that were made to launder money and this is far, far too nice for that.
My current theory is that the director was given a blank check and the ability to choose his entire creative team with absolutely no oversight. That is the only explanation that can possibly make sense, because the second someone at the studio saw how things were progressing or read the plot this should have been immediately canned.
I am having a lot of trouble finding out more information about how it got made as well, which is strange.

I seek out bad films regularly, this is not a wide release and has been buried by the studio because I believe it has 0% positive reviews from critics so far.
You'll probably never see this film, but the fact that it was made and financed is a huge, huge problem. Most 'woke' films have redeeming qualities and at least appeal to certain groups, this is the exact opposite.
This is an offensive film to everyone involved, and represents a true low point for film as a whole.
Take it from someone with 'broad horizons' as you say, this is something entirely different from the bad crap you see pushed by Hollywood.
