I think it's a more general sense of alienation and loneliness than it is about just "getting laid", and that incel is a term that is greater than the sum of its etymological parts, but sex is ubiquitous in modern pop culture and so easy to latch on to (and believe the majority of people take for granted) when most of your interaction with the world takes place through that lens.
