Are the desktops that bad? I had 2 as a kid (one bought in 03 and the other bought in 09) and I didn't have any hardware problems that I recall. I was told by the Best Buy salesman not to get a Dell laptop in 2010 but I don't how knowledgeable he was or if there were other motivations for saying that. Come to think of it I don't think I've ever had a Dell laptop and I was burning through laptops yearly at one point.
For a few years there in the late 90s they also had power supplies with non-standard power pinout but with a standard ATX connection, such that if you tried to swap their broken unit for a standard unit off the shelf it would fit perfectly but literally fry the motherboard.
There's also a huge chunk that's just them charging the government or other businesses licensing fees for their enterprise stuff. The peasantry buying a copy of Windows is not at all where they're making their money, but the government and wallstreet both have plenty of money to offer.
I remember the old days (Windows 7 and before) when I got a pre-built PC; first thing I always did was format the whole hard drive and do a clean Windows install. And just like that, McAfee was no longer entrenched on my system. Or 30 day free AOL trials. Or Norton. Or any other obscure software that never fully uninstalled.
But now that Windows is the malware, guess that doesn't matter anymore.
The European install of Windows is less cancerous than the North American install.
If you trick your Windows 11 to think it is a European version, you can do things like truely uninstall Microsoft Edge and opt-out of web search in your computer's search.
I remember that they used to, more than a decade ago, but that the menu was hidden deeply so idiots didn't pick it by mistake. Did they remove the option completely at some point?
They've been doing this for a few years. I remember getting a Dell XPS 13 Laptop where you could choose to have Linux installed (Ubuntu) way back in 2012.
You'd have to dig out the crappy Realtek card to get stable wifi, though.
I'm not that familiar with the Linux ecosystem but isn't Ubuntu normie friendly enough that they decided putting in telemetry was worth it? Being the biggest normie friendly distro is also going to make it a juicy target for age verification nonsense.
I had to fight with Mint last night to get it installed on Hyper-V because it's still retarded about graphics drivers. Zorin on the other hand went through without any issues at all. Mint's layout feels a lot more familiar and intuitive to me, but if I had to hand something to Joe Normie it would probably be Zorin based on my limited experience thus far.
When you have the consistenly lowest rated spots on the pre-built quality chart (between Dell and Alienware, owned by Dell) I guess you'll try anything.
Yeah but it's Dell. I don't want my computer catching fire.

Don't know about their desktops besides the shitty low end micro PCs you can find in every office building everywhere, and yes those suck.
But they've had a reputation for twenty years for purchasing cut rate power supplies and starting fires.

Evil bastards.
I'm just shocked they give you a discount.
Microslop still charges for the license so it's not that surprising. It's less a discount than a "feature" that's being removed.
Yea but I was under the impression PC builders also get money for all the bloatware they install on their builds, which usually only runs on Windows.
Plus, 70 bucks seems steep for a Windows license. I've never paid more than 6-10 bucks for an OEM license off ebay.
I mean windows license is like 100$ if you just type in "windows 11 key".
Windblows isn’t free … yet
They make most of their money from stealing your data. That's why they don't give a fuck if you pirate their jeetware.

Windows is not free. If you’re Paying for the labor, why are they charging $71 less for Ubuntu?
You bought windows 7. Upgrades to 10 and 11 were free.

The better solution is to install Linux. Mint ( normie desktop use ) or Bazzite ( preloaded for gaming ).
I remember that they used to, more than a decade ago, but that the menu was hidden deeply so idiots didn't pick it by mistake. Did they remove the option completely at some point?
Reminder that (((michael dell))) is jewish.
No wonder why its the most recommended brand...
Ubuntu, literally the worst Linux distro there is. It might as well be Windows.
Trannys vs pajeets, huh? What a choice…

Ubuntu tries to be, but Mint actually is.
