I'm convinced the social media response to AI has given people psychosis. It's total dogshit in motion (rendering this whole affair pointless), but as stills, it absolutely does its job. It even seems to have a good sense of tone, though that might be something the devs did. It made Resident Evil look like promo shots from an RE movie, which is the style the game was going for in that scene. It made Sarah Morgan look like an alcoholic. There's nothing uncanny or weird about it until it actually starts animating, and almost nobody is bitching about that.
I look forward to the day studios use N64 textures and force DLSS to save development time.
Exactly where this is headed. Nvidia gifted us fake performance with upscaling and frame generation - locked behind overpriced GPUs - and then lazy devs immediately cashed out that nonexistent uplift by skipping optimization altogether. A pox on everyone in the industry.
I don't see the issue. If it makes game development more accessible, and it's not overly taxing on average hardware, then I see that as an improvement. Humanity excels when we make tools. There's been people like you who rejected the printing press, the tractor and the telephone.

I don't want game development more accessible. Game development becoming more accessible is why we have a bunch of danger hairs and bottom feeding activists ruining the industry. I want game development to be a herculean effort such that it takes people like John Carmack to survive in game development.
I suppose there's merit to your argument. But I'm inspired by the idea of this tech helping a High School student make a polished prototype of their game, raising some cash and becoming the next John Carmack. I don't lose anything from danger hairs wasting their time and dime on a turd. It's easy enough to judge developers by their "fruits."

Yeah, as if devs can actually make N64 textures. At best they'll look like N64 but still be 4k or 8k uncompressed textures because fuck people without VRAM real estate and fuck people without disk real estate
If you think about it, the woke takeover of media kinda prepped us for the imminent AI takeover. I already try not to watch anything created after 2014. I imagine I'll have a similar cutoff point at some point for video games. Eventually it'll just be me and my backlog. It's fine. I'm getting old.
