You'd think that as a libertarian Rand would watch a lot of police bodycam videos, just to have an idea of how much government tyranny is out there, etc.

You really don't have to watch very many to see many armed criminals elect to forgo their trial and due process and force a more immediate resolution. How many executions start by handing the executee a Glock and saying "good luck" to the executioner?

Nah, deaths outside of custody are almost definitively not executions. The only time they come close is when the line between in and out of custody gets a little blurry. Otherwise it's basically a death in combat with the goal protecting of law abiding citizens, police themselves included.

Using an unrealistic work of womanbrain fiction as your model for law enforcement rather than all the records of reality around you is unfortunately peak Libertarian.

Government tyranny is not deployed against criminals.

But let's be real: almost everyone shot by the police..........

It's not as if the police are used to visit dissenters and then shoot them. At least not often.

dunk on libertarians

A man of taste.

Only tangentially on topic, but is anyone else shocked by how little Harper Lee knew about Mockingbirds?

Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.

I used to be blessed to have a window facing a sidewalk with a mockingbird nest. Got to watch the aggressive little f^$%ers attack random passers by for my entertainment all day.

They live in the entire United States south of Montana and the entire eastern seaboard. I don't respect Harper's observations on anything.

The pleasantry bird chiping and singing is really just an illusion of our minds from the familiarity and tone of the noises they make.

In reality, they are closer to crazy hobos yelling at people on the street going, "FUCK YOU DIS MINE" and "EEY BITCH WANT SUM FUCK" or just "WUUUAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH"

In many ways, it describes the behaviour of the jogger problem in first-world nations; thus, unironically, the novel's title makes complete sense, only unintentionally so by Harper.

After Go Set a Watchman was released, I think we can all conclude that she only made such a "timeless and resonating" novel by accident and wasn't all that otherwise.

Granted, she was smart enough to never release that herself, and her publisher(?) did so against her wishes after her death so I don't fault her. But its existence shows where her mind was and it was very stupid.

This is my real distinction between being a "Minarchist Militarist" and a "Libertarian".

A Libertarian society can only survive by being protected by 2 things:

  • An extremely dangerous and heavily armed militia that can defend itself at the first sign of trouble from significant enemy force
  • A night-watchman state that is absolutely ruthless to the wolves pacing and drooling outside the walls of our fortified city.

This is an invasion. That's not a bureaucratic misdirection of legalese to give the president the ability to stop bad Democratic policies. The Democrats literally invaded the country with foreign hordes to replace the population, make them dependent, and crush them under anarcho-tyranny. Our forefathers would have already revolted against such tyranny, but we were groomed and conditioned to be far weaker men than them, by the same people who tyrannize us.

The invasion is in a classical sense that every civilization before us had to deal with: a horde of unknown peoples cross our border, take our things, claim our land, and do not recognize our authority, and will not go. Tradition has it that they will soon declare us to be enemies, burn our cities, and rape our women... which they did.

As such, the boarders of our nation must be repelled. The "gangsters" are the worst terrorists we've seen outside of ISIS directly. They run chevauchee's through our country, are manipulating our politics, and displacing our people. We have no obligation to warn them that we will defend ourselves; as you would not warn a rapist prowling through your kitchen in the middle of the night.

We respect their lives more than they respect their own, let alone ours. They knew the risk, and they didn't care.

So be it.

"But what of their human rights". We have respected them. They are an enemy in the open. If they didn't want to die, they should have surrendered. The F-16 pilots on The Highway of Death did nothing wrong.

Did he ever wonder what might happen if the accused were immediately executed without trial or representation??

These are not criminals who are citizens that we are required to respect the rights of. These are enemy invaders who have declared themselves for literally demonism and murder.

This is the correct use of our missile ships.

Lolbertarians are clowns, but Rand Paul is right here, and once the hysteria dies down and/or the government uses this to abuse its power further, people will come to realize that.

Obama used drones to kill American citizens without due process. The media thought it no big desl. We kill a bunch of Narco Terrorists contributing to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans a year and it's the worst thing imaginable. The story was in all the press that we were sending war ships to Venezuela for this purpose. The Narco Terrorists knew the threat. Maybe they shoulld hsve just stayed home.

This is Rand Paul and he has been very consistent on this matter. You just don't like it that he's now criticizing your guy rather than their guy.

We kill a bunch of Narco Terrorists

Is this actually proven, or is it just claimed by the government?

Is it good that the government can kill people with no due process by just claiming that they are 'narco-terrorists', any more than that they can kill people with no due process by claiming that they're terrorists?

Rand Paul votes against leftists when they’re in power, and nothing happens.

Rand Paul votes against conservatives when they’re in power, and it threatens to derail everything.

That’s why libertarians are retarded. They only succeed in stopping right wing government.

And that's a good point too. I hope I didn't indicate any sympathy for lolbertarians, though Rand Paul is a good one. That said, if he can move conservative governments to be right-wing while also respecting constitutional principles, that is a win-win.

He's not right here at all. And you as usual don't know the first goddamn thing about military matters and ought to have kept your mouth shut.

Venezuela(among several others) is engaged in terrorism against the people of the United States, and it has been the law since before any of us were ever born that non uniformed combatants have no rights whatsoever.

If you want to fight another country, put a uniform on, pick up a gun, and go fight them. That is the sole legal means of conducting acts against them. Engaging in "restricted warfare" like the Chinese call it, renders your agents bereft of all protections.

The Barbary Pirates got no quarter. We don't have to give any to these narcos either.

I'm not terribly comfortable with them droning a boat in foreign waters, but if the blockade is announced(I don't think it officially was) it is fair game.

It would also, absolutely, be fair game if a boat of foreigners in a foreign craft were rushing at high speed towards US waters away from a port of entry. US Coast Guard revenue cutters have had cannons for that purpose continually for hundreds of years. They don't have a right to enter US waters with contraband goods. They outfitted their boat to outrun Coast Guard (US or someone else's).

A blockade is an act of war. Does that require a declaration of war?

No, it requires declaring a blockade, then it would be on Venezuela to declare war or seek UN aid. If the UNSC approves the blockade, then Venezuela is on their own. If the UNSC does not approve, they can seek a resolution from the UN the General Assembly, which the US can veto. They are thus back to square one, and can make war and seek allies in a bilateral fashion.

They likely realize that would go poorly for them, and so they are doing as they are doing and complaining and nothing more.

I agree that this is a violent action, but the unfortunate reality is that these are invaders who are killing us, and they should not be given the quarter that we would give any citizen. This is the right thing to do if we are to dissuade further efforts to literally (in some cases) conquer our homes and communities.

There is a reason why Trump felt confident to go into their own rally and tell them they are losers to their face, and they could either follow him or continue to be losers.

Regardless of your feelings on him, he was 100% right there and they need to be brought back to reality before their "ideology" can ever be useful. Otherwise its endless waiting for utopia and being obstructionist in every manner.

I'm assuming the context is overseas. In a realistic libertarian society, it is permissible to use a military or militia to target people fraudulently lacing product with fentynal or other incontrovertibly toxic substances. JD Vance is probably being an establishment conservative persisting in the drug war status quo, but that necessitates a less pearl clutching distractionary response on Rand's part.

Most of natural law (negative rights) is really an older conception of game theory, rather than a set of inviolable social norms. Freedom of speech is an agreement among political factions to not get into a cycle of ruining the lives of members not currently in power. It's not for commies and real Nazis, those who don't believe in free speech, to abuse an unlimited license and undermine free society. This has eroded in the age of lawfare and debanking, and the mass of virtueless morons who bandwagoned the TDS narrative. Back to the topic, there's no nonintervention principle to be upheld when the foreign society hasn't agreed to politeness. Americans have just have to be wary of foreign entanglements and nation building farces.

Ron Paul used to support the death penalty until he decided the judicial system is too flawed to give fair treatment. I never liked this society wide dismissal of judicial negligence and corruption, or legislative bloat. There shouldn't be an obligation to be financially burdened by the irredeemably criminal. I say put tons of cameras in prisons, and summarily castrate and amputate those engaging in prison rape and gang activity.

The freedom and rights of individual liberties can only be preserved by a society that is prepared to fortify that society like a bunker and repel all invaders with extreme violence of action. Our rights mean nothing when we are torn limb-from-limb by a horde of killers, slavers, and slaves themselves who have no reference to a free society.

The wolves circling our homes must be given violence as a lesson not to approach us, because they will see all other actions as weakness inviting attack. Instead, we let the wolves make a den out of the chicken coup, and Ron's getting upset that clearing them out and stemming the tide of wolves is messy.

To bad. It's fight or die out in the real world, and everyone else has chosen us for death.

Repel boarders.
