I hate to be the "why no archive" commenter, but Kotaku? Really? A raw link to fucking Kotaku? You should get yourself checked out at a clinic after that.
There was something I did hear that I don't know if it's relates to this.
There is an organisation in Japan that stores examples of all physical media, including games, in a pristine collection. They've done it for PlayStation and Nintendo.
Apparently, they have viewed the current switch 2 games as NOT physical and only digital so their key cards are not worth preserving so is a mark against Nintendo's prestige.
Between Nintendo and Sony, there must be some sort of obscure Japanese cultural practise that makes it logical to ask people to shell out $700 for a console they can't play any games on.
I saw this earlier, a good theory I read is that Nintendo wants to limit the possibility of an exploit being discovered in the Switch 2, which to my knowledge doesn’t have any true hacks that have been circulated yet.
Good point... I'm lost on this, then. Could it be they just have a shortage of dev kit hardware? Are dev consoles different hardware nowadays or is it all just software?
No idea, could be something seriously flawed with the dev kits that can't be quickly fixed since making new games would take at least a year or two, even just porting would take months. Instead of waiting a year or two doing nothing, they might as well make something for switch 1 in the mean time
There are around 25x more Switches out there than Switch 2 right now. Could just be a matter of Nintendo forcing developers to make games that they can sell to 100% of the install base instead of games that only run decently for ~4% of potential players. Then rely on a couple of big first-party titles to push the Switch 2 into more hands before opening it up to more devs?
It's always hard to figure out what Nintendo is thinking.
In my opinion, they've optimized every game that can run on the Switch 1 by now with porting. The Doom games, Red Dead Redemption 1, various Xbox 360 games. It's time to port more recent games that feel new to me, like Read Dead 2, Hell Divers, Marvel Rivals. (Also why can't I remember better examples?) Only Switch 2 games I've heard of are Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk, and the Donkey Kong one. (Since I can't afford one, I didn't bother to look at them earlier.)
The PS4 recieved games for years into the PS5's lifecycle. I really think that is the future of console gaming if these companies keep upping the entry price without as much to show for it.

I was going to report and realized for the first time that direct linking to MSM sites isn't against the rules.

I bought a PS4 to play like two whole games, and somehow the PS5 has even fewer that interest me (zero).
Bloodborne and Castlevania Symphony of the Night Upgraded for PS4. Ok, and Gran Turismo. I miss Pain for the PS3.
My PS4's been gathering dust on the off chance I want to watch a Blu-ray.

Nintendo is small indie studio that needs your $80. Prease undastandu.
It's only a matter of time, really.
Yeah, sounds like an anti-emulation attempt. I can't imagine any other reason why they'd limit releases on their new platform.
I'm also downvoting for directly linking to Kotaku.
If more games are made for switch 1, then more sales are lost since emulation and piracy are already well established

Maybe Nintendo wants more game sales by releasing them on both systems?
Making sure games can run on lesser hardware used to be called "optimizing."
Isn't that what we want?

I know that I believe everything Kotaku prints.
