I don't know what my personal contribution to all of this was, but I can remember back to those brief few minutes of the ME3 credits that started it all.
I literally went through all 5 stages of grief in that scrolling.
"That can't be how it ends..."
"The fuck kind of ending was that?!"
"Maybe there's a twist and Shepard was indoctrinated or messed up due to his injuries and something else is still going to happen."
"I started this series back in 2007, and this is how it ends in 2012."

The ending, original before any DLC trying to fix it, was that abrupt and jarring.
The funny thing isthatthey did do what they said. You continued your adventures with Commander Shepard with downloadable content.
The Citadel DLC is the true ending of ME3.
That or get the Mass Effect Happy Ending Mod which fixes basically everything.
I wonder what the various timelines are like where there was no Marauder Shields ending to Mass Effect 3, and/or the original dark matter story is what the series went with before the writer threw a wobbly at story ideas being leaked.
Imagine a timeline without The Zoe Post. Or Gamers Are Dead. Not one with them all gone, just one part of the chain that led us here today to this point. Would make for some interesting chaos theory models.

If I had to guess, I'd say much earlier. I could be wrong, but this just screams "flash in the pan" to me.
It's actually a four-year-old game already, only the global release is new. Since the global server started from the beginning, even with an accelerated release cadence, there's still several years worth of content ready to go.
Content, yes. Interest...we'll see.
I should have been more clear, I don't expect the game to die, I expect the hype to dry up. The game will survive, and people will play it, but it won't be The Thing after maybe even a couple of months.
I don't hate the game, and I'm not taking shots, for the record, although it wasn't really my thing, I'm just saying my expectations. Everyone's memeing with the horse girls, but that will fade fairly quickly, would be my guess.
It is still gigantic in Japan, both the game and the anime.
Maybe the West will get tired of it faster than that? But there will be a large number who will still be playing it in 4 years.
That's not counting on the whole game getting re-vamped and improved, just 'as is" it'll be here a long time. The quality is exceptional, the depth of play is solid & it's just plain fun! (and addicting too)

I think the current popularity boom will pass, but the franchise itself has existed for ~7 years now and has multiple games, anime, and manga.

The game is as wholesome as it gets, the Anime even more so. There's a strict "no lewd the horsegirls" rule so it will get a lot less R34 treatment than most popular things from Japan. Oh there's already lots of it, but that's how it is for everything.
There are people joking about sex with horses because I think these is some flirtatious joking, but the important thing to understand is that
A) it never goes past mildly flirtatious joking and
B) the “horses” look like this.
