Got the resident evil remakes and tomb raider 2013 and they won’t shut up. Shut up and let me play damn it. The environment is interesting enough without you dipshits yapping! Get off my lawn!

When "le cinematic experience" became the norm,
First game I'm aware of that did this was Red Dead Redemption. At the time it was cool and novel to have a character commenting on everything happening. Then every developer decided that innovation and uniqueness are bad and we should just get RDR clones for 20 years.
That's how it always goes, something is cool and unique so then it becomes endlessly copied until everyone hates it.
God of War the original was famous for its QTEs and everyone loved how cool they were. RE4 the original came out at the time of MGS cutscenes being dominant so its "every cutscene could kill you" was novel. Both of these things would go on to become some of the most hated trends in gaming.
Same thing happened with Subnautica. First one was silent protagonist. Second one wouldn't shut up
The protagonist of the second game made me hate it with the firey intensity of a million foreman grills.
EXCUSE ME SWEATY A BLAKKKKKKKKKKKK GURRRRRLLLLLLLL IS TAWLKIN
Same here. Whenever I started to get lost in the environment, yet another voice line would be uttered, typically out of nowhere. Half of it was just her "explaining to herself" whatever the fuck was going on as if they didn't trust the player to grasp it themselves. This completely went the opposite direction compared to the first, where you're just flung into this strange ocean world and need to piece it together yourself.
I muted voice & disabled subtitles and it was still a much shittier game than the original
I made it about 5 minutes before I uninstalled that shit and requested a refund
I got about halfway through it. When yet another grrlboss was established (the old Karen lady) I pretty much gave up. The lore was all about the protagonist and her sister and how amazing they are so I was already skimming over that shit.
Because modern gamers are retarded as well as dead emotionally and they need to be told exactly what to think and feel.
Which is a damn shame. Old Tomb Raider how a great isolated creepy atmosphere, except the one with the two dipshits yapping in Lara's bluetooth. Old school resident evil as well. For what they have in graphics they lose in everything the fuck else.
Can you imagine if they tried to do Star Trek now a days? It'd be a stupid ass action show where all they characters are miserable and curse constantly. The writers would probably undo the post scarcity socialist utopia of TNG just to create a failure junky and pretend she's somehow great and noble. Thanks god that didn't happen hahahahaha
You even said it, around 2011 ish.
When millennials became adults en masse. The most narcissistic, navel gazing, back patting, self obsessed hugbox generation ever born to humanity.
Why is Gen X never made fun of?
Most people forget they exist, like their parents.
Because we don't really care. That's our defining trait, apathy. Half of us basically lived in the woods. Boomers were such astonishingly bad parents that the government created a nightly mandatory broadcast to remind them that they even had children and that they should probably keep track of them.
It's been said below, but Gen X and Gen Y are the Passed Over Kids. Their Boomer/Jones parents largely didn't give a fuck about them, and they as a group have seen behind the curtains.
tbh they should since they're the ones that raised the Millennials to be failures
They're the imitation millennials not the 80s kind.
Writers can’t write to save their lives and too many gamers are basically mentally retarded and can’t understand context clues or environmental storytelling.
For the easily offended who do not have inner monologue. For those that can't keep up.
Everything has to be for everyone now, so it's bland boring and inoffensive.
Gex? Bubsy? The question is, when did it stop being seen as incredibly corny?
For the same reason as the yellow paint. Because they want to guide people through the game and not have them get lost for long. So the characters will muse about what to do and what just happened to make sure the player can follow along too.
Half the reason I gravitate to souls games is for the near total absence of modern storytelling. No one is constantly talking to themselves. There’s no girl boss imperative warping every piece of the narrative. There’s no quippy, Whedon-tier dialogue making me want to swallow a gun barrel. Just thick atmosphere and environmental storytelling punctuated by rare and succinct cutscenes. Everything errs on the side of too little explanation, which feels like a breath of fresh air in the era of over-explained garbage. Playing a souls game in today’s video game climate is like turning off the tinnitus you didn’t know you had.
Are you a masochist?
The re2 remake wasn’t terrible just bland and they made the characters worse, which is amazing considering the original characters and dialogue wasn’t that great.
Re3’s remake had a horrible Jill but was fun, as long as you skip every cutscene so you don’t have to hear Jill.
Tomb raider isn’t bad but it doesn’t have the atmosphere of the older games, there’s too much QTE garbage and Lara is whimpy. The environment is bland and not as fun to explore for collectibles.
Everything is worse but not unplayable.
I just beat a Kena: Bridge of spirits and it’s very colorful, and it was fun to explore because everything wasn’t the same two tones. Even then it was like a watered down drink of Tomb Raider, Zelda, and Jac and Daxter.
I blame women or trying to appeal to women.
If I was to guess, I would think guys like the combat and all the cool stuff and women like to talk a lot? Or at least that what leftist think, so now every character needs to talk a lot, be passive aggressive and have millennial humor.
Since writers all have BPD now. They can't stand silence because it allows time for introspection.

True, but that was for comedy and part of the charm. The games I’ve described just have the characters saying shit to themselves like “Ok got to get to the police station” “It like a nightmare” “That looks flammable” “ I’ve got to fine a way to light it”
