In 1993, I was 12 and saw Jurassic Park. I was so enthralled I read Jurassic Park and all the Michael Crichton books I could find. Crichton is probably who's canon I've read the most of.
I've read he wasn't a fan of writing 'The Lost World' and did not love the film adaptation. Outside of some initial work with Jurassic Park 3's story ideas, which he left early in the process, he never was involved with Jurassic Park again.
He died in 2008, seven years before Jurassic World came out. With JP:Rebirth being out do you think he would appreciate the direction of the franchise?
No. Spielberg basically bullied him into writing a sequel to the first book so that Spielberg could make The Lost World. Crichton wasn't even really happy with the original film adaptation of Jurassic Park. The slop they're making of it now probably has him spinning in his grave.
I heard he enjoyed the first movie, even though it was different from his book. The bullying for the sequel I had heard that one. I don't think he would enjoy the Jurassic World stuff either, maybe the first one. I could see him enjoying the concept of the park opening and then watching it get destroyed. He did create Westworld after all
Pretty sure he actively worked on the script for the first film, alongside another screenwriter.
Is that why the second book is so goddamn bad?
Lol, no, Michael Crichton was based af, he didn’t even like how JP3 turned out, much less JW4: JP7 (using star wars dark forces: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy naming conventions obviously lol)
He even debunked climate change at the height of its hysteria:

There used to be some good essays he wrote on the subject floating around but I can’t find any working links atm
State of Fear is a good book
It should be assigned reading in high school.
That book and Atlas Shrugged were the two that sent me spiraling down the path to become the far right extremist I am today.
So it's guaranteed that neither will ever be even acceptable reading in HS. much less assigned :/
Holy BASED
He was already one of my favorite writers, this makes him even more so. Truly a man of the people.
You should read the books he wrote under a pen name while he was in med school. And read the Hard Case Crime versions with the covers, not the new goyslop sanitized ones.
Check the archive of his website.
Literally no Jurassic Park movie after the first is "good". They have good parts, but are all overall garbage products. 3 and the first World are okay blockbuster nonsense movies, the kind you take kids to to entertain them without a lot of depth and falling apart when you think about them.
But all the rest are offensively bad. Like JP2 and World 2 actually piss on your leg and try to tell you its raining with their politics being shoved in your face.
Yep, only the first and perhaps Jurassic World (as a disposable popcorn flick).
He once argued with the director of 13th Warrior so much the director quit. Crichton directed the end of the movie. He was also very anti corporate insanity. He gave several speeches and papers debunking all the big scary stuff after State of Fear was published. I pulled myself from the left after reading those speeches.
You can read or watch those speeches on his website now.

I highly doubt he would enjoy the movies except the cheque that came from it.
Director of The 13th Warrior = John McTiernan, right? Director of Predator and Die Hard? Strange.
This is the story from IMDb

Yes. As a sprit medium I can speak to him. He said his favorite moment is whenever they drive motor cycles
Crichton would HATE it... But, he might've appreciated the meta-humor in the endless cycle of Disney mercantilization of the IP and the company listing into a slow-motion crash-and-burn, given how much he loved to talk about Chaos Theory and the increasing dangers of entropy.
How many books did he write set in that world? Also, didn’t Arthur Conan Doyle have a book about finding an island where Dinosaurs are still alive? I still haven’t read Jurassic park but I plan to. I found Congo at a yard sale but haven’t read it yet
Just the two books. Crichton didn't write a lot of sequels.
Arthur Conan Doyle's book was completely and utterly different. My guess is that the name was chosen by Spielberg as something of a homage.
Thanks. With all my books I’m surprised I don’t have Jurassic Park
Congo is good. I remember it being way different from the movie. Have you seen the movie Congo
Movie was trash.
But good trash. It's junk food
Haven’t seen the movie. Is it worth watching or am I good with the book?
It's basically a dressed up B-movie.
I swore off the franchise when the trailer for Dominion hit and they had a shot of some white girl making out with a neanderthal at the drive in. You could almost hear the producers whisper, "Hey kids, come see our dinosaur movie... and don't forget to race mix!"
Hey, you bigot let's get something straight. Black people aren't Neanderthals. Only white people have Neanderthal ancestry
