Evenso, a rampant obsession with social media still wouldn't explain the numbers seen from the 4chan hack, or from what C just said about this site. It's easy to deduce that this massive over representation is also on other social media sites. They simply don't have the numbers of people, if posting genuinely but obsessive, to outpace the rest of the world on every site. The only explanation that makes sense is that it's intentional shilling and botting.

It's most likely the reason why that single chan remains up, while other the other chans were shut down. After the investigations into the DNC and Podesta emails in 2016, leading to the Pizzagate investigation, and the role that such sites played in the 2016 election, it was obvious that the shilling campaign ramped up against 4chan increasingly over the years. They did the exact same thing to Reddit that year, too, after Hillary won the DNC primary, and the day after Reddit became a "I stand with her" hivemind, after being hardcore Bernie bros that election, and being Ron Paul libertarians before that.
