Is Big Soda secretly funding RW influencers like IMC to defend pop/soda being bought with food stamps? (twitter.com)

There is nothing nutritional about our food stamp program.

Dr. Mark Hyman explains to Tucker how the taxpayer is funding the chronic disease epidemic in the US:

  • $125 billion allocated to SNAP (food stamps)
  • 75% of food bought on SNAP is junk food
  • 10% is soda ($12 billion)
  • Monthly benefits come with targeted ads for junk food
  • Taxpayers fund 30 billion (or more) servings of soda for the poor every year
  • Biggest profit center for Coca-Cola is SNAP (20%)
  • Walmart gets around $40 billion of the SNAP bill
  • Every $1 spent on food results in $3 of collateral damage (paid through medicare)

"There is no N in SNAP"

There are a lot more crazy statistics shared in this episode about our food system, this is just a small highlight that was shocking to me.

I used to live with 5 liberals in what used to be a crack house, because the rent was a third of what I was paying before. One of them was a schizophrenic who had no job and lived off welfare. He was like maybe 140 lbs. All he ever ate was stuff he got with food stamps, which primarily consisted of 7/11 convenience store food and Chef Boyardee soup containers. Not a full can of soup, just the little tiny ones that you would find at a CVS pharmacy or a Wawa.

I have no idea how he didn't die of malnutrition.

Snap shouldn’t pay for junk food, I think that should be pretty obvious for everyone. These people are 100% being paid.

Completely agreed.

If taxpayers are going to fund someone's complete existence...yes, it's correct to put guiderails on that try to get them healthy and in such a state where they no longer need to be funded.

I don't want to pay for anyone's sugar water, thanks.

Someone whose life is subsidized by our tax money is living off our paycheck the same way a teenager is. They "have freedom" but if they want to live off our money they should be expected to follow whatever rules we want to enforce on them.

And if they don't like it, fucking good. Get a job and make your own rules then.

In fact, the rules for it should be absurd, humiliating and restrictive. That's the motivation to get off government dime faster. You shouldn't be allowed to have a "normal, happy" life on it. It should be the barest minimum to be considered living.

SNAP bennies used to be a coupon book that poorfags had to tear out one by one. Now it looks like a debit card so they won't feel bad.

Make it worth based on what you are using it on, local farmers market does this all the time for SNAP users.

Buying meat/veggies? Its worth its full value so you get $10 worth it costs $10.

Buying soda/candy? Its worth 1/4 its value (ie, you spend $10 of your SNAP to get $2.50 in junk, the rest gets recycled back into the system or such to help pay for your fatass getting diabetes later).

And for the people bitching about 'muh government overreach', most government funding comes with conditions. It's normal.

I'm also willing to compromise and end welfare completely, so none of this is an issue ever again.

There were already restrictions on what you could buy with snap. So claiming govt overreach suddenly is bs

IMC is not right wing. Some of us have the long-term memory to remember when he was part of the anti-GamerGate crowd.

No no no man, much like the Republicans and the Democrats he "swapped sides" and that means he is now a forever trusted and beloved member of our side!

Pay no attention to the fact that he was a real Neo-Nazi larper first, then tried to be an SJW with GG, then tried to grift off GG because KIA would rim anyone who gave them attention (ask Ethan fucking Ralph), and then became a boring loser with no side but "benefits me" because no one wanted him after that.

NEW: The shady PR firm working for Big Soda put out an “EMERGENCY HALT” notice to influencers last night after we called them out. They were hoping that would stop the bleeding. They were wrong. Several of us are working together on a thread right now. It’ll all be exposed.

https://x.com/SpiritofPines/status/1903433913189740656

If you’re curious how the influencer media pay-op works on the right, here’s a short explainer:

Coca Cola never actually writes a check to Ian Miles Cheong. First the Coke money is laundered to a libertarian or “pro capitalism” think tank as a “donation.”

Then a PR person for the think tank sent an email blast to all of these conservabro influencers with versions of the post to make.

No direct compensation is attached, but it maintains the implicit promise of future access and funds. So Ian can say he honestly never took a check from Coca Cola. Coca Cola can say they never paid a bunch of social media influencers to advocate for taxpayer-funded obesity.

And yet, thanks to the magic of middlemen, that’s exactly what happened.

Soda is so fucking cheap that its probably the least expensive part of any "unhealthy" meal people can concoct. Especially if you buy the store brand version, which is comically cheap. Its only "expensive" in gas station/machine/cooler versions, because that's by design.

There exists no world where you can rationalize it being covered by food stamps, because if they can't afford the single fucking dollar that a 2liter of store brand soda costs then there is a bigger problem at hand. Like them not being a fucking work.

It's not an argument to subsidize soda, but one of the easiest ways to min/max soda price is to buy it at grocery and retail in larger formats (six packs of double bottles, 24 flats of cans, etc), particularly when it's on sale as a loss leader.

The problem is that to buy it at larger volumes is heavy and awkward in terms of transporting it home and storing it.

So the foodstamps poors are going to only buy a single 2L and walk it home or take the bus home on a regular basis, still cheap but not maximizing their margins.

While the middle class chads are going to watch the flyers and fill their trunks full of diet soda when it's cheapest at scale even though they aren't the ones that need to be counting every penny.

2L are usually going to actually end up being better bang for your buck assuming full price on both. There's about 4L~ roughly in a 12 pack and its a bit less than half the price for 2 bottles. My local store is 1$ for the store brand 2L and 4$ for their 12 packs, with the same relative scale for the name brands. You reach about equal on the 24 packs.

The problem is, 2L also go bad/flat faster, meaning you need to drink them at a more rapid pace. Already an issue because they don't have that hard stopper of finishing a can so you drink it faster anyway. Which means you drink way more of it.

Sales of course change all that.

Soda pop enthusiast here.

No, this absolutely should not be part of any food stamp programs.

Pay for it your own damn self.
