There's a certain twisted bit sneakiness to this too. Because female characters in anime have long been a thing, and this wouldn't normally seem like something out of the norm.
Except because it's being pushed and funded by a Western company, you know this isn't a natural creative choice but instead yet another DEI-type of motivation.
And also straight. It looks like the veteran war hero he fell in love with is still a woman (blue armour in the trailer), so it's going to be dyke love now too.
Yeah because characters that were ALWAYS female from the source material in Japanese media can easily be badass (PLENTY in FMA Brotherhood, Major from Ghost in the Shell, Roberta from Black Lagoon etc)
However switching genders in adaptations, I can't think of a time it HASN'T been a symptom of a bigger ideology over writing issue.
It’s because they hate you. Whenever something like this happens remember the meme vid where the girl says “this is why I hate video games they appeal to male fantasy and I wrote a blog post about this!”
They literally hate that men made fiction that appeals naturally to other men and it became popular. The people that think like this have managed to get to the top of the corporate chain and will now destroy all of it if possible.
Why aren't the choppers for helicopter rides spooling up right the fuck now.
Wherever you can, in whatever way you can, twist the knife in progressivism today. As simple as telling a progressive tyrannical child "No." even.
It's impossible not to love F14 Iron Man/Batman of the junkyard. This was in response to the studio potentially delaying work on a sequel and gaying up All You Need is Kill with their progressive fundamentalism.
Looks like absolute shit. I guess its one of those western cartoons made by talentless woketards that are supposed to emulate anime style and fail miserably. You can tell from a mile away.
All the characters look like dumpy noodle armed bowling pins and the main character has thick eyebrows with normal sized eyes that are spaced really far apart and has a DIY hair cut. It's also cell shaded 3D models. If it didn't have the japanese text in the title I would guess that it's french.
Is it just me or are even the artstyle off, it feels like it want to be sort of the budget gundam of the scarlet witch or something else? Perhaps a knockoff of some Chinese slop?
No clue. I saw a woman, immediately went to Wikipedia to check, and my hunch was right, she was a man before.
The Tom Cruise movie is quite good, though. Check it out sometime.
Though some home releases renamed it "Live, Die, Repeat," which is a MUCH better title than "Edge of Tomorrow," so you may need to look under that name as well.
I enjoyed the novel. I originally read it because I liked the movie adaptation with Cruise and Blunt. They’re similar enough that if you like one of them, then you’ll enjoy the other. But they’re also different enough that you’re not retreading the same story.
As to why the gender swap, my guess is that you can thank either a woke idiot or some girlboss feminist. Rita is a totally fine character in the story, so there’s absolutely no need to make the protagonist female in order to have a good female character.

I can confirm the protagonist was male in the original light novel, too.

Rita was already a good female character. Fucking WHY?!
Went to see what better projects Studio 4C could have been working on instead of more WB-backed shit. Saw this:
Now even more disappointed with the world.

I can't tell if this means you like the original SWAT Kats or you hate it.

Got it. I was a fan of the cartoon when it was new, too.
A shame Ted Turner was such an idiot that, despite great ratings, he cancelled it for being too violent.
One wonders if his dementia started early.
Anime is pretty fucked with western corporations like disney, warner and netflix trying to get their greasy fingers down into it.
All I See Is Hideous Gender Swapped MC

The art style looks like ass.
there's already a manga
LOL so one grrlboss in the Tom Cruise movie wasn't enough? Really shows they aren't for "equity" but supremacy
bet they still won't have the balls to do novel-accurate ending

Definitely looks French.

It's not just you. It's cel-shaded CGI, like the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
CGI can never replace traditional hand-drawn animation, because CGI ages poorly.
The computer cannot replace the hand.
it's not that great a series
Hard to believe any editor ever greenlit that title.
From what is said about it, it is a prequel about the female character in the novel before she meet the mc.
Hmm, that could work. Assuming they're doing it in good faith (but when has that happened?).
Do you know if there is an article about it being a prequel?
Did they say why they gender swapped? I’ll check out the novel

Yeah I have to agree. They both kind of suck
The movie is good I saw it recently. There already was a a female co-star so it’s odd they would gender swapped
