Bringing RDJ back into the fold as a completely different character was dumb.

This is just an extra layer of dumb. Victor Von Doom has a good back story in the comics already.

I doubt he is doing any of that. It’s just pretending he is hype to try to get MCU hype because nobody gives a fuck about it right now. At least I hope so, because if he is writing it, it’ll be worse TDS than all of his last term combined.

You're probably right.

However maybe I'm a bit too pessimistic today, but, if I were RDJ, I would not want others to write crap for me that I'd have to say I wrote. If I say I was doing it, I'd write it myself.

Otherwise, if it turns out to be dumb (you know it will. No one can write a strong character piece anymore) it'll make him look like a bad writer, and he'll have to prop that up for awhile until the contract is over, and then he can say he didn't write it after all, but was contractually obligated to say that he did.

Which is also going to make it all look very dumb.

I honestly, seriously, genuinely don't know why he would bother with all that. He probably isn't and it's all just PR to hype the movie. Disney ran out of ideas and RDJ knows they've got nothing left, so he's taking them to the cleaners for every penny he can. That's what this is about. It's not about the fans or the "lore" or whatever. At 60 years-old, I honestly don't think he can give a fuck about all this comic book bullshit anymore.

Marvel actually has a lot of really good storylines but the ones they have used they have either ruined with dumb woke bullshit or they have completely ignored. There is enough genuinely good material to make really good movies for a generation but they aren't doing that.

Doom's backstory has him going to hell to fight the devil to rescue his mother that was a witch but they're not going to do that.

They are either dumb as shit or doing it intentionally.

I think it's dumb as shit. I believe them when they say things like "there's no source material" as KK said.

Not that there isn't, but that they've never countenanced that it might exist.

The failure of humankind is the assumption that others doing strange things understand the same things but have reacted differently, when really they never even had the same information you did.

Doom literally had a story about him gaining the power of a god and finding it beneath him because of how certain of himself he is. While also still vowing to keep it because it belongs to him regardless.

That's a level of ego that is captivating on its own, but requires a considerably delicate hand to write. Something the MCU hasn't had since basically its earliest movies.

Despite Disney's Marvel bullshit, he's the only one that has a time machine. He used it to go back in time to Camelot where he learned magic from Morgan LaFey. Then he killed her.

He also stole some of the Beyonder's power as well as the power cosmic from the Silver Surfer. He's the only one besides Surfer that's ridden his surfboard.

and the Doombots he created invaded Wakanda. Most times he doesn't even have to show up, he sends a doombot to do the work for him.

He could easily take over the world if he wanted to.

Doom is unironically one of Marvel's strongest characters, who has his entire history and life hampered by being tied to one of Marvel's least popular teams (Fantastic 4). And not just the team itself, but the most generic and unlikeable member of said team that literally no one is a fan of.

Its a testament to his potential that he has succeeded in spite of that.

That's very true. I've always thought that. Fantastic Four have always been dull. Even West Coast Avengers were better than them.

I'm guessing RDJ knew how desperate Disney was to dig the MCU out of the hole it's in that he knew they'd give him everything he'd demand. An insane paycheck wasn't enough, he wants creative control. Looking at his IMDB page, he has a dozen 'producer' credits, but only one writing credit. For a documentary of the 1992 Democrat National Convention. This is going to be a shitshow, I can't wait. Hopefully this will kill the MCU for good.

At this point who the fuck knows?

My main objection to him doing it is HE'S Iron Man, Chris Evans got away with it because no one cared enough about Fantastic 4, but Iron Man STARTED the MCU so that's a tough sell.

Him writing it is a mixed bag as he's stuck in the dem/Hollywood circle compared to others but at the same time wasn't he backed by Mel Gibson to PLAY Iron man as he was deemed too risky at the time so maybe he wants writing control as we see how shit Disney writing currently is?

I thinks it's all PR bullshit to hype up the fans that he "really cares. Like you said, he knows how desperate Disney is to revive their "golden goose" and this spin about him writing backstory is meant to convince everyone that he's doing it for love of the game and not an insane paycheck. It's all PR hype.

Oh, absolutely. He's no Henry Cavill who actually gives a shit about the subject material.

Eh, maybe he did at one point. But I remember how glad he was to put it all behind him with "Endgame."

Well yeah, before Iron Man he was known as a washed up drunkard. He enjoyed the revitalization of his career and the millions of dollars, but after a while it became the same bullshit of wearing a plastic suit and waving his arms around in a green room. Now he's going to be waving his arms around while wearing a cloak over a plastic suit in a green room, but he gets to make the character into a strawman whatever personal grievance he wants. Or maybe he'll go the other way and give Doom some pretentious melodrama so he can try to be a big serious actor in a superhero movie.

He probably got away going off the script in most projects. Would have to press directors and script writers to know for sure.

Well the character needed a backstory, it's not like he's a character with 60 years of history. /s

Chatgpt, summarize dr doom's story from this specific comic book.

We now have the technology to allow airheaded actors to "write" about stories they have never read, and of all people in the world, they are the best suited for the pretendery required to take credit for it.

Feige is all washed up. He had his moment. Just like Lucas had his moment and then served us the execrable Prequels.

funny you mention that, have you ever heard alex jone's take on the prequels?

I was just thinking about this, and for a man that often goes off the rails, he has surprisingly coherent takes when he calms down, lol.

Lucas tried his best at making a plot heavy on political intrigue, but he failed on the most important part: the execution. Everything about those movies was horrible on top of a pile of garbage.

the big problem with the prequels is the same problem with the special editions and every edition of the original trilogy since...lucas' ego got too big.

with the original trilogy, he relied heavily on consultation with other filmmakers, many of whom were far more experienced than he at the time.

problem was, star wars took off like a rocket at the box office, and made him an overnight sucess. it's a rare man or woman who can be called a "genius" after his first big movie and not get a swelled head about it...

Every bad writer can be pegged by noting how often they spend exposition dumping and world building instead of letting things speak for themselves or the audience piece together bits as they happen organically.

Its also why older games and movies and the like came with extra material in the manual, trailers, or other booklets that would be available to supplement if someone wanted without forcing it on those who didn't.

I like exposition dumps but not the stilted anemic kind that Lucas delivered.

He should have kept Jar Jar as the surprise villain for episode 3 instead of count Doocoo or whatever his name was.

I've seen Team Downey attached to projects which aren't listed on IMDB or Wikipedia. I'm pretty sure the Netflix show Eric and the Showtime show Kidding had something in their credits about it. I could just be muddling up puppets and adult content here but I think he and his wife (Yes, she's Jewish Telia!) have had input into more than a few projects in recent years.

As for Robert Downey Jr. writing a Doctor Doom backstory, as long as none of it gets put in front of camera as material provided by the actual writers he can Kirk Lazarus the shit out of it.

Steel manning this, it could be he's just doing some writing exercise stuff as a method of getting into character.
