Movie plot
Five months after Thaddeus Ross is elected President of the United States, he sends Sam Wilson and Joaquin Torres—the new Captain America and Falcon, respectively—to Oaxaca, Mexico, to stop the illegal sale of classified items stolen by the Serpent Society, a rogue special-ops team led by Sidewinder. They recover the items, but Sidewinder escapes. Torres is excited to be taking on Wilson's former mantle, but Wilson is hesitant to involve Torres in dangerous missions due to the pair not having superpowers like former Captain America Steve Rogers. After the mission, Wilson and Torres train with Isaiah Bradley, a super soldier who was imprisoned and experimented on by the U.S. government.
Ross invites Wilson and Torres to the "Celestial Island World Summit" with world leaders at the White House, and Wilson accepts on the condition that Bradley is also invited. Ross asks Wilson to help him reform the Avengers. During the summit, Ross explains that a new metal, adamantium, has been discovered on "Celestial Island", which was formed when the Celestial Tiamut emerged in the Indian Ocean.[a] The recovered items were the first refined samples of the metal and were stolen from a Japanese mining operation. To avoid an arms race, Ross proposes a treaty to govern adamantium's mining and distribution. As he is talking, the song "Mr. Blue" plays and causes several men, including Bradley, to begin shooting at Ross and other dignitaries. Apprehended by Ross's head of security, former Black Widow Ruth Bat-Seraph, the men regain their senses and deny any knowledge of the attack.
While investigating, Wilson is ambushed by Sidewinder and captures him. Torres tracks a call on Sidewinder's phone to a hidden black site in West Virginia called Camp Echo One. Ross tries to salvage the treaty, but the Japanese government blames him for the theft of their adamantium and the subsequent White House attack. Ross realizes that the mastermind of these events is Dr. Samuel Sterns, who gained advanced intelligence after being exposed to Bruce Banner's blood during the Abomination's rampage through Harlem.[b] Ross imprisoned Sterns at Camp Echo One, publicly blamed him for the Abomination's actions, and promised to release him if Sterns helped advance him to the presidency. Wilson and Torres find Sterns and learn how he uses technology and the song "Mr. Blue" to control minds. He escapes while they are fighting mind-controlled soldiers.
Bat-Seraph joins Wilson and Torres, and they meet with Wilson's military friend Dennis Dunphy, who has Sidewinder in custody. Wilson learns enough to deduce Sterns's plan to destroy Ross's reputation. Wilson, Torres, and Bat-Seraph go to Celestial Island where Ross and the Prime Minister of Japan are racing to claim ownership of adamantium. Sterns controls the minds of two American pilots who attack the Japanese fleet. Wilson and Torres intercept the planes and convince the Japanese to stand down. Torres is critically injured in the fight. Ross tells Wilson that he is dying of heart failure and had Sterns develop pills that have prolonged his life; Ross refused to release Sterns for fear that he would no longer make the pills, leading to Sterns's anger and plans for revenge.
Sterns kills Dunphy, preventing him from warning Wilson that the pills have been adding gamma radiation to Ross's body. After Wilson is consoled by his friend Bucky Barnes, Sterns surrenders himself to Wilson. Ross loses control of his emotions during a press conference and transforms into Red Hulk, destroying part of the White House. Wilson rushes to stop the rampage. Unable to overpower Ross, Wilson attempts to calm him down by reminding him of visits to Washington, D.C.'s cherry blossom trees with his estranged daughter Betty. The two fight until they are exhausted, and Ross reverts to normal. Bradley is exonerated, Wilson invites a recovering Torres to join the Avengers, the adamantium treaty is ratified, and Ross has himself incarcerated at the Raft. Wilson and Betty visit him. In a post-credits scene, an imprisoned Sterns warns Wilson of a coming attack from other worlds.
The thing to remember is Captain America is black. He's a black Captain America.
Captain chirp America
The fact he used to go by Falcon and has/had a remote control robot bird just adds to the meme.
in and off itself not a dealbreaker for me, but the real question is whether it'll be handled better than the comics did. instead of making him a legitimately interesting character, who actually had actual history with cap, they just made him a soapbox for all of their "historical injustice" bullshit.
Given it's Disney, I'm guessing they'll go the same way the comics did, but who knows...
It’s a dealbreaker for me because of how forced it is. It could only be worse if he has a White female love interest.
sorry, forgot to mention Bucky was also Captain America for a while...
well, that's kind of my point. Sam Wilson taking over as Captain America isn't as bad of a choice as some of the other diversity hires, he's worked with Steve for years, same as Bucky, at least in the comics, and he's got the history as a hero in his own right. Hell, even some of the art from the comics looks pretty cool.
...But choosing him just because he's black so you can virtue signal and make him a Nu-Male Soapbox for your own bullshit is fuckin retarded and boring(and let's be honest, being boring is the ultimate sin that kills any character).
To be fair that won't be difficult since the Axis event happened shortly after Sam took up the mantle in the comics and so his first few outings were ironically of him full on authoritarian which unsurprisingly ruined his rep both in universe and with the readers despite that being part of the point of the whole event.
yeah, but on the other hand, this is disney we're talking about, lol.
The thing is FATWS show did the whole coming to terms with being Captain America. Now we have a movie and it's still all about him being a black Captain America. If they are going to continue with him they need to move past the same, he's black Captain America schtick.
And they can't because they can't see anything other than race... its their entire being, the middle and both ends of their philosophical outlook and depth of their insight.
because it's their 'class struggle,' without it, they can't sell their communist horseshit to the masses.
starry-eyed used car salesmen, the lot of them...
Because Marvel being retards needs to do the story all over again for those that don't watch the non movie MCU content.
Well you are correct
So Ross doesn't even Hulk himself in this. What a complete waste of the character.
I'm usually pretty good with Marvel comics trivia and characters but I have no fucking clue who most of these names are. Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, Samuel Sterns [The Leader], Sam Wilson, and by a lazy callback Betty Ross are the only names I recognise. The rest are apparently discount Falcon, discount Black Widow yet again, the fucking Serpent Society 🤣, and some random former test subject because "USA racist". Talk about scraping the barrel, I thought that was going to be bad enough with the Thunderbolts movie of a similar shit lineup.
lol what the actual fuck is this shit? Thor couldn't even wear down the actual Hulk in the original Avengers movie but somehow a normal human can wear down Red Hulk 🤣
Disney has killed off or otherwise burned out the Marvel universe at this point. Everyone anyone cares about is either dead, or a narrative dead-end. There's nothing left to keep the MCU going, and yet, the shambling revenant continues it's endless march....
So, how many more films of this dead timeline do you think we're gonna get before Disney tries their hand at a full reboot of the MCU?
In the case of both Star Wars and Marvel, Disney severely underestimated the extent to which most movie fans loved the actual actors playing the characters and not just the “universe” or even the characters themselves.
This is always one of the issues I have with reboots or new adaptations because they still rely heavily on name recognition from established characters only to often kill them off on their very first outing, as happened all the time in the DCAUM movies from 2014-2020 where you had heroes and villains alike show up then die either immediately like with Count Vertigo or at least in the same movie as was the case with Vandal Savage.
It just diminishes the fresh start rapidly and leads to an even faster reboot to once again clear the board of all the fuckups the execs and writers keep rushing out because none of them actually have any skill.
Isn’t Doomsday supposed to be adapting the most recent Secret Wars? That sounds like at least a soft reboot opportunity to me.
Doomsday might be an Infinity War type movie as there's an actual Secret Wars one coming out after that which could very well reset everything for an All New, All DEIfferent MCU afterwards that nobody will give a shit about. Doom plays a big part in both Secret War comic events so having him stomp everyone in part 1 like Thanos did in IW and create Battleworld or whatever version of the story they do for part 2 wouldn't be surprising.
The "discount Black Widow" was meant to be Sabra, before the October 7 attack activated all the useful idiots and opened Disney up to an unexpected attack from the left.
Serpent society is supposed to be a bunch of mutants dressed like snakes or having snake like powers. Usually Spiderman deals with them.
The Thunderbolts deserve better.
No kidding.

And as mentioned the big bad is likely going to be the "evil white male" Superman pastiche.
Was browsing the high seas and saw the new film was listed so decided to read the wiki summary rather than actually watch however many hours of MCU slop; that's an actual review now btw:
Which isn't a surprise as the plot sounds all over the place, plays nostalgia cards so badly you wonder what the producers were smoking, other than "POTUS man bad" ofc, and comes off as a hilarious shitshow that is going to bomb hard.
Will post the critics bit from the wiki page below but not editing out the reference numbers because cba ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Critical response
Womp womp.
Imagine being so uncreative someone could predict your review years in advance as "orange man bad", oh wait these are "journalists" so lacking creativity is the entire deal hence being failed English majors.
Jackson literally killed people on the White House lawn but doesn't count as the most destructive rage filled president? Maybe if he forced all the indian tribes on a force march that would have put him higher on the list.....oh wait
Jackson had to be restrained from beating a would be assassin to death too. Dude was beating the mofo so bad the onlookers felt bad for him
And remember, this movie was subject to several recuts and reshoots, so it coming off as a disjointed mess that's afraid to commit to anything was done on purpose to try and salvage it.
"Oh shit, he actually won the election. Quick change the end where we kill the
orangered guy and everyone claps!""Fuck-quick-change-the-script-so-we-don't-lose-even-more-money-and/or-get-sued!"
Nah, Red Hulk is a reasonably notable character in the comics, who’s actually been relevant and on at least one Avengers team. I doubt he was ever intended as a Trump reference. It was probably just bad writing and/or bad management involvement from start to finish. Although TDS can do some crazy things, so maybe….
They clearly bet on the wrong cultural horse and then scrambled to fix it with reshoots and editing.
Marvel has shown a willingness to take established characters and turn them into references already. They literally did it with MODOK.
I think MODOK is less important as both a character in general and in terms of potential future uses in the MCU specifically than Red Hulk, but your point about their willingness to fuck with stuff in stupid ways is fair enough.
While orange hulk does exist, he is not particularly relevant.
You mean Devil Hulk?
No i mean orange hulk. Appeared in like two issues when X-force when was the utopia hit squad. He was the age of apocalypse version. Worked with Blob in the black legion which was basically Logan/Apocalypse's four horsemen.
After the whole Kang thing, I think they are still reeling trying to reconvene probably a decades worth of future plans for their movies. It'll probably be years before they finally bury that issue.
That's on top of all the other possible problems any movie could have, so its magnified hugely.
Still keking myself over how spectacularly that nuked them, but then that's what they find out for fucking around.
...considering the source, suddenly i'm interested in this film...
I haven't given a shit about marvel since the first ironman movie.
Sounds like they couldn't decide whether to do the plot from Winter Solider or Civil War so tried to mash the two together then tried to incorporate all the loose ends left by previous marvel films to hopefully nostalgia bait creating this....slop.
So is this still the same captain America that's now black or is he suppose to be someone new? Because as far as I remember the original black cat never told anyone the super soldier formula so they were never able to make another.
Hes' formerly Cap's sidekick, Falcon. He doesn't have the super serum, he just has Hollywood bad writing abilities. There's no way he could fight a Hulk class monster.
He could, but he’d be stomped into paste within seconds.
The Falcon TV show had the actual Captain America successor take some version of it, so they clearly have a knockoff version of the serum somehow.
Unfortunately he is being saved for the Thunderbolts movie coming in like 3 months so they couldn't use him here, if they even acknowledged him existing.
Probably for the best if they didn't, as Mr. Black Captain here is a primary reason why the guy had a mental breakdown, felt he had to take the serum that nearly broke him, and then spent the rest of the series shitting on him for daring to kill a literal terrorist until he had to "atone" by giving Falcon the shield, despite it being property of the US government.
He's a completely normal soldier with a flying suit that's the same as his old one except it now has Wakandan force field technology and he also has Captain America's shield.
