the oscars have been the industry fellating itself for decades, probably always was, honestly.
There was a time that the Oscar bait movies didn't exist. For a large amount of times the movies that were the most financial successful won the most awards. I forgot the movie that caused the shift, but it was a less successful "important" movie.

Also yes, everyone needs to be white when you make something about Vikings. If I'm going to see a movie set in Japan, I want to see Japanese people. If you can't stand making a movie with white people, just go shoot your movie with some legends from Africa and leave the Vikings alone.
As a Scandinavian American, I'm outraged by the appropriation of my culture. Ok not really because I'm not a limp wrist lib, but still seems Disney hasn't had enough pain yet.

It seems that "Scandinavian" is an "underrepresented race or ethnicity" in US productions. Not sure why they couldn't bring themselves to see that truth and instead chose to erase your ethnic identity.
If you read the whole Best Picture DEI shit they actually have a list of what specific ethnicities and races are accepted as "underrepresented."
tl;dr: Literally anyone who doesn't have European ancestry.
The weird thing is, that each of these regions HAS their own thriving film industry. If the actors guild doesn't want to nominate any Nigerian movies into the best picture category, is the solution to that most triggering of micro-aggressions really blackwashing another viking or redhead?

My wife is icelandic. She genuinely doesn't know much about her culture and loves talking about her 3% Irish heritage. Scandinavian isn't a thing in the US, so people from those cultures do t even realize what's happening.
The show is as much Scottish as it is Scandinavian, with several hints at Maori. The original writer based it on her summer visits to an island in Scotland. The show creators are Californian and can't tell the difference between Vikings and Maori.
So it was weird anyway. They're only making the show to drum up business for the new park in Orlando.

Not in the main crew. But she and the MC are the only not slapstick, deformed gremlin in that crew as well so it had to be her.
