Imagine having millions of dollars at your disposal to make a game and somehow not get why games like Concord failed miserably (media.scored.co)

Those dang right wingers and their ability to see the future! It’s so racist to not share what they know!

Just like AI when they stop it from being "discriminatory" then it becomes retarded.

When you’re so far past the Overton window that you can’t even fathom why gay shit still doesn’t sell.

They don't really care if it doesn't sell, the goal is to move that window.

I think he knows exactly why it doesn't sell, but he just can't say it out loud.

I can't believe that pandering to 3% of the population doesn't make us more popular with the other 97%!

Are these companies failing because blackrock money is drying up or because the cat is out of the bag and blackrock realizes subversion only works when people don't realize it is happening?

This is the kind of only positivity here, focus grouped, consultancied, waste of resources that did not need to get as far as it did during development before someone said "Yeah, it looks nice, but it fucking sucks"

But that I guess is too much work.

If your game actually ever intends to make money, then it should stop sucking way, way before it looks nice.

First should come the pre-production, in which (among other things) the core gameplay loops should be defined, at least on paper.

Then, after greenlight, there should be several expansions of staff numbers, with the biggest being during testing / bugfixes.

If you can't get the core game play right before testing, then you have utterly, utterly fucked up and your budget is gone.

Not that it's a great example, but Todd Howard himself said it took them seven years to make Starfield fun.

And using my example, I don't think it looks particularly nice, and it really wasn't fun.

So I have no illusion that anything from them from here on out will be something other than a disaster.

Correct in every particular.

Now do Anthem.

Betting it’s like season 1 on a Netflix show. There will have to be an expansion of characters eventually and alternate media tied to the game. How long until they start shoving in the gay?

Wikipedia says they included Squirrel Girl (Marvel's patient zero) but none of the other usual suspects that are obvious red flags yet.

And even then her character design, while being the retarded version, isnt the actively offensive retarded version.

Everyone else is mostly fine, storm being a standout and wolverine being... somewhat disappointing but with a pretty good gimmick.

Also helped that the character designer didn't have an agenda to make the models as ugly as possible. Those chink game companies have known that saturating a game with cute anime girls will make their predatory gambling mechanics sell like crazy.

I know a lot of people like to shit on Asmongold but he's right on this issue...

people aren't automatically turned off by woke games. there's woke shit in multiple games that were still wildly successful. it's just that there are tons of games that are absolute hot garbage in concept/graphics/gameplay/etc. they would not be funded on their merits, so some of them ride the wave and promise wokeness for that ESG funding. this creates a bias where practically every game with wokeness is a flaming shitpile even if you take out the wokeness.

this goes back to the stanford/UCLA studies that showed affirmative action fails means testing in every way. it's sold as a solution to under-representation and reducing discriminatory views, when in reality it makes both of these worse. there's nothing worse than being forced to suffer through something that's garbage, or someone who is incompetent.

Case in point, Hogwarts Legacy, commercial success, has a troon character and full of browns in 1800's Scotland.

At least you can mod the game to remove those.

Christ, they could have still had the lezzie character, but she sure as fuck wouldn't have been advertising herself as such.

She simply would have described herself as a spinster who lives with her sister/best friend/whatever. And that would be it. Adults might know. Kids didn't need to.

And questions like "Why didn't you ever get married?" would have fallen entirely within the realm of "None of your business, stop asking rude questions, kid".

Its a free to play game in a dominated market using an IP that is diminishing harder by the day.

I think its a valid thing to be worried about longevity.

It's not hard to imagine. You've been told over and over to cater for the modern audience. So when a game comes out that caters hard to "the message" but does not succeed, the foundation of what you know is "true" is shaken you don't know what is real anymore.

That is the impact of modelling society around feminist principles. Feels over reals is a disaster of a principle but both left and right have embraced feminism as their religion hence cannot see the cancer that it is.

money is less important than passion for the project.

A great example is ghostbusters (1984) vs ghostbusters (2016).

One was a passion project of Dan Ackroyd's that he shopped around for years before it fell on Ivan Reitman's desk. Reitman loved the idea so he had Ackroyd get in touch with Harold Ramis to polish the script a bit. It was produced on a shoestring budget and became a global phenomenon.

The other was handed to a director who had to be practically bribed into accepting the job and was so awful, the one actress who was actually a fan of the original apparently had near-daily meltdowns over how much it sucked. it had a powerhouse budget and didn't make half the money it was expected to.

...honestly, I probably would have watched eventually if it weren't for the way they went after anyone even remotely critical of the shitty trailer, but my god, the way they went after people just made me make a point to actively avoid it...

...although the upshot is because of the shitstorm, I found out about James Rolfe

oh speaking of passion over budget... look at what this guy accomplished almost by accident, lol.

Then jump head-first into the enemy combat scaling. The final encounters are easier as a brand new character with junk gear than they are with top-tear equipment and skills.

Enjoy.
