That's on purpose to make regular people have environmentalists. The people bankrolling these activists are usually big oil and the like.

Big Oil and Gas funds environmentalists because they sabotage nuclear. E.g. Gazprom gave money to German environmentalists to have them support the Nord Stream pipeline Joe Biden blew up. Their stated reason was because gas is needed for their 'energy transition' and for moving away from nuclear.
Environmentalists should be hated. Along with any other anti human ideology, or any group who spends so much time trying to destroy humanity's historical treasures.

Maybe with (some of) the original Earth Day stuff when it was less about "OMG GLOBAL WARMING" and more about "let's not pollute our rivers so much." Of course, I'm sure that was also corrupt in its own ways.
I'm not sure I could point to any time when I can say "this movement was definitely fine." What I'm saying is less "this movement was good and became corrupted" and more "I do want some things in place that keep everywhere from becoming smog central."

Last year some of them made the mistake of setting up on Reservation territory, on a road leading to Burning Man.
Watching them realize those Rez cops were actually intending to ram their barricades full speed with trucks and then fling them to the ground was cathartic. Double so when the National Lawyer Guild dweeb tried to pull the "I'm a bystander!!" card and still got manhandled.
Killing them, while fun, just makes martyrs of them to keep their retarded brothers going. Revealing them to be pathetic little babies who crumple with minor resistance is far more damaging to both their egos and their image. Which is why that protest barely got any coverage.
